2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
Tony Romo underwent back surgery to repair a herniated disc in December, but is expected to be 100 percent by the start of training camp. Head Coach Jason Garrett believes Romo is in the prime of his career, but considering the quarterback is now 34 years old, that statement is likely May/June “coach speak.” On the plus side, the Cowboys have hired Scott Linehan as their new passing-game coordinator, a move the veteran Romo is reported to be thrilled with. Under Linehan, the Lions' Matthew Stafford averaged 4,885 passing yards over the last three seasons, and he never attempted fewer than 630 passes. Contrast that with Romo, who has only surpassed 550 attempts once in his career. Romo is perpetually underrated in fantasy circles and should prove to once again be a boon for owners who wait on drafting a QB. In four of his eight seasons as an NFL starter, he has topped 4,000 yards in passing, and he threw for 3,828 yards with 31 TDs in 15 games last season. If his attempts were to rise significantly under Linehan, Romo could put up a career year even at 34 years of age.

Comment: Romo (back) will be watched closely during training camp. He'll be moving up the rankings as his progress improves.

Injury Romo "miles ahead" of last year in recovery
Pleased with conditiioning after second back surgery
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jul 7, 4:45 pm

Dallas Cowboys
This is the second consecutive offseason in which QB Tony Romo is rehabilitating from back surgery. His work in these sessions has been limited, but he wasn’t cleared to do anything in organized team activities or minicamp last year. “Miles ahead of last year," Romo said of his conditioning now compared to last June. “I don’t think they’re comparable. I think last year I was just starting around this point so this year I’ve had whatever months to kind of get myself into feeling like I can go." (Dallas Morning News)

FFToday's Take: With the Cowboys' defense expected to be among the worst in the NFL, Romo will need to be in tip-top shape in order to keep Dallas in games. The 34-year-old should be among the league leaders in attempts and yards in 2014 and has plenty of weapons at his disposal, so he could be a darkhorse pick to finish among the top five fantasy quarterbacks this season.

Injury Romo: "I could play in a game if I had to"
Cowboys QB wants to be 100% by training camp
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jun 10, 7:30 am

Dallas Cowboys
Not only does Tony Romo think he’ll be 100 percent for the start of training camp next month, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback says he could play in a game today if it was needed. "In the next couple weeks I think I’ll be 100 percent, Romo said." (Dallas Morning News)

FFToday's Take: Romo had a herniated disk repaired in December and has been limited during OTAs with the anticipation of being 100% ready by training camp. Romo has a high ceiling this season if passing game coordinator Scott Linehan gets to put his stamp on the Cowboys offense. We'll get a better feel for the offensive gameplan later this summer.

Injury Romo to be on pitch count during OTAs
Rehab from back surgery going well
By: Mike Krueger | Thu May 22, 1:38 pm

Dallas Cowboys
"I'm getting close," Tony Romo said. "We're just going to be smart during the OTAs and have a little bit of a pitch count but we're going to go out there each day and try to do all that we can. The guys are working hard and doing great and I think we're going to be ready." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Romo has been pacing himself after his back surgery in December but seems to be on track for participating fully in training camp. Former Lions' offensive coordinator Scott Linehan will be calling plays this season for the Cowboys. Linehan was the pass-happy OC in Detroit from 2009-2013.

Injury Romo throws during Tuesday workout
Dallas QB recovering from back surgery
By: Mike Krueger | Wed May 7, 9:00 am

Dallas Cowboys
At this point, the quarterback (Tony Romo) is about five months removed from back surgery and recovering well, by all accounts – going as far as throw in team workouts on Tuesday. “We feel good about Tony’s health, first-hand, medically. His back is everything that we want it to be at this time,” Jones said. (DallasCowboys.com)

FFToday's Take: There's been quite a bit of talk about the Cowboys interest, or lack there of, in drafting a QB this week. The Cowboys obviously aren't tipping their hand. Romo (34) is expected to be ready for training camp in July.
