2016 Outlook
Depth Chart
I guess the bar has been set pretty high when 3,800 yards passing and 31 touchdowns is a down season, but thatís life for what has been one of the NFLís best quarterbacks over the last half dozen seasons. Even though he was able to win a playoff game on the road, and nearly came up with a miracle win over the Cardinals, Rodgersí play slumped noticeably, enough so that his end of year fantasy rank tumbled out of the top 10. He had only three 300-yard games in 2015 (compared to 9 in 2014) and only three 3-plus touchdown games (yup, 9 of those in 2014 too). So while his season numbers look decent, most of the fantasy season he was an uninspiring starting quarterback, but someone you wouldnít dare sit. Owners with enough discipline or a deep bench may have had the guts to sit him, especially in the fantasy playoffs when he was particularly dreadful, but most were forced to ride it out.

But enough about 2015, itís a fresh new year of possibilities, and Rodgers is back hungry and healthy, and again being considered in the top 2 at his position. So what changes in Green Bay bring about such a positive outlook? A few things. The anticipated return of Jordy Nelson, the development of young receivers, and the return of Mike McCarthy to play-calling duties. Lotís of blame has been placed on the shoulders of Rodgers for last yearís offensive showing, but one must understand the importance of timing and continuity of the Green Bay offense. Nelson went down late in the preseason, the young receivers failed to develop as fast as was required, and the offensive line was a sieve. Randall Cobb couldnít get open with extra defensive attention, and the play-calling failed to compensate. I anticipate that Green Bay learned a lot from their struggles, and the players and coaching staff are too good to have it happen again. If Nelson even approaches his pre-injury form, and the running game can be a threat, Rodgers should be right back at the top, and a surefire QB1 as one of the first selected.

Nelson's injury limited Packers' playbook
Rodgers comments on team's struggles to fill void last year
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Aug 10, 4:37 pm

Green Bay Packers
With one of his favorite targets lost for the year, quarterback Aaron Rodgers was forced to run an attack that never found a suitable replacement for the subtle gifts Nelson brings to the game. "No, it didn't surprise me," Rodgers said of Green Bay's inability to fill the void, per ESPN's Jason Wilde. "The thing that he does is, we have specific packages for him that just, we didn't have a guy who could fill those packages. And it was a lot of play-action stuff, where we're taking eight-man protection and taking shots down the field. And we didn't have a guy who could take that spot." Said Rodgers: "I thought that collectively we were going to be able to fill some of that void. But again, the stuff that he does is tough to teach, and that's why he's one of the best in the business." (NFL.com)

FFToday's Take: Jordy Nelson is currently on the PUP list with knee tendonitis yet the team expects him to be fully healthy at the start of the season. He's a first round talent that will slip to the second round in most drafts. Better still, his return to the lineup will push everyone else down a spot on the depth chart. Randall Cobb and Davante Adams will have more space and of course Aaron Rodgers should "rebound" after seeing his stats dip in 2015.

Aaron Rodgers drawing raves for his conditioning
Reports to camp at 218 pounds
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jul 25, 4:15 pm

Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy raved about his Aaron Rodgers' conditioning on Monday, when players reported for the start of training camp. "He's in great shape. I would say this is the best shape I've seen him in," McCarthy said. Rodgers revealed this offseason that he revamped his nutrition plan and, among other things, cut out dairy products. This offseason, he said he was at his lowest weight -- "218-ish" pounds -- since 2007. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Rodgers underwent knee surgery in January and said he started thinking about his diet at that time as a way to help extend his career. The 32-year-old former league MVP was already set up to enjoy a bounce-back season even without the weight loss, as Jordy Nelson is back from an ACL tear and Eddie Lacy has shed a few pounds of his own. Rodgers should be locked in as a top-five fantasy quarterback in 2016.
