Gonzalez misses another practice -- Thu Nov 14 4:00 pm --
Douglas misses practice; Jackson gets in full practice
|Harry Douglas was added to the Falcons’ injury report Thursday as he did not participate in the session due to a knee injury.
Tight end Tony Gonzalez missed his second straight day of practice with a toe injury.
Roddy White was limited with a shoulder injury for the second day in a row and Steven Jackson was at full participation Thursday after being limited Wednesday. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)|
FF Today's Take: HC Mike Smith told reporters he "would never count out Gonzalez" in regards to his Week 11 status, but another missed or limited practice on Friday would probably make him a poor fantasy option again this week. Harry Douglas also missed practice with a knee injury. With White likely to draw Darrelle Revis - who is beginning to round back into "Revis Island" form lately - in coverage, it looks like it could be another long week for the Falcons' offense.
Harry Douglas has knee injury -- Thu Nov 14 3:45 pm --
Falcons receiver misses practice Thursday
Falcons wide receiver Harry Douglas, who had a career-high 149 yards receiving Oct. 20 in the last matchup with Tampa Bay, missed practice with a knee injury Thursday. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
FF Today's Take: The Falcons continue to get hit by the injury bug. Roddy White is dealing with a number of issues including a shoulder injury to go along with his ankle and hamstring problems. TE Tony Gonzalez is battling a toe issue and now Douglas. There's very little information about Douglas' knee injury but his practice participation tomorrow should give us a good indication regarding his availability for Sunday.
Roddy White active for Week 10 -- Sun Nov 10 11:30 am --
Rsky WR3 against Seattle secondary
Falcons WR Roddy White is active. (Adam Schefer via Twitter)
FF Today's Take: As expected, White will give it a go after missing significant time with ankle and hamstring injuries. He's a risky WR3 against the Seattle secondary.
Roddy White expected to play -- Thu Nov 7 12:30 pm --
"I'm pretty sure I'm going to be out there Sunday''
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White, who missed the last three games with hamstring and ankle injuries, announced his intent to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. "I'm pretty sure I'm going to be out there Sunday,'' White said Thursday. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: White was limited on Wednesday but barring a setback should suit up Sunday against the Seahawks. He won't be a recommended fantasy play due to the matchup and questionable health.
Roddy White worked out prior to Wk 9 -- Mon Nov 4 2:30 pm --
Has missed three straight games
Roddy White was inactive for the third straight game coming off hamstring and ankle injuries. White ran some routes before the game but went back to the locker room after discussing his status with head coach Mike Smith and receivers coach Terry Robiskie. "I'm not going to speculate in terms of our injured players with Roddy," Smith said. "We did work Roddy out before the game. We made a decision that we felt like it was in the best interest for Roddy and our football team, long term, not to go." (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: White is close, although it is debatable how useful he might be in fantasy right away if Seattle (Week 10) and Tampa Bay (Week 11) opt to use Richard Sherman and Darrelle Revis in shadow coverage, respectively, although that appears unlikely given how their teams have used their top cornerbacks to this point. Owners are unlikely to have much better options to start down the stretch in front of White, who should be a target monster upon his return.
White and Colston, inactive -- Sun Nov 3 11:25 am --
Big name wide receivers will sit this week
Falcons WR Roddy White and Saints WR Marques Colston both inactive. (Adam Schefter via Twitter)
FF Today's Take: Harry Douglas remains a solid WR2 while Lance Moore should see increased targets with Colston on the sidelines.
Roddy White returns to practice Fri. -- Fri Nov 1 11:45 am --
Listed as Questionable
Falcons wide receiver Roddy White, a four-time Pro Bowler, returned to practice on Friday. He missed the past two games with hamstring and ankle injuries. He could be available when the Falcons (2-5) face the resurgent Carolina Panthers (4-3). (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
FF Today's Take: White has a chance of playing this week but he's not a good fantasy option until he proves it on the field. If he does play, his presence would kill the value of Drew Davis but shouldn't have any effect on Harry Douglas. Douglas is a WR2 with or without White on the field.
Roddy White out for Week 8 -- Fri Oct 25 12:45 pm --
Falcons receiver didn't practice all week
Mike Smith said Roddy White is out. Jason Snelling and Nicholas both out also. (Vaughn McClure via Twitter)
FF Today's Take: White (ankle, hamstring) missed practice all week. Harry Douglas and Drew Davis will likely start with Kevin Come seeing action as well. Douglas will be a WR2 in a negative matchup against the Cardinals defense.
Falcons' White, Jackson sit Friday -- Fri Oct 18 12:15 pm --
Neither are likely to play on Sunday
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White and running back Steven Jackson remained sidelined during Friday's practice, the last day of preparation for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay. Right now, White is nursing a hamstring injury as well as a high-ankle sprain. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Jackson doesn't appear close to returning to the field while White's status remains a bit unclear. It's possible the receiver could suit up without practicing this week but even if he does, he won't be a fantasy option.
Jackson, White remain out of practice -- Thu Oct 17 4:00 pm --
Outlook for Falcons' veterans remains dim
Steven Jackson (hamstring) still sitting out practice. No sign of Roddy White (ankle, hamstring). (Vaughn McClure on Twitter)
FF Today's Take: White's absence isn't unexpected as the expectation was that he would miss his first career NFL game. As far as Jackson is concerned, one has to wonder if Atlanta has been truthful with his injury. The ex-Ram stated that he felt good in Week 4 and was only waiting to be cleared by team doctors, so either he has encountered a setback or the team has not disclosed the seriousness of his injury.
White, Jackson miss practice Wed. -- Wed Oct 16 6:00 pm --
Atlanta stars still dealing with injuries after bye week
Falcons running back Steven Jackson (hamstring), wide receiver Roddy White (left hamstring/right ankle), left tackle Sam Baker (left knee), linebacker Akeem Dent (sprained ankle) and tight end Chase Coffman (left knee) were listed on the team's official injury report and did not participate in practice on Wednesday. The Falcons were hopeful that Jackson, who suffered a hamstring injury on Sept. 15, might be ready after they returned from the bye week. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
FF Today's Take: Jackson's absence is concerning as it's now been 5 weeks since he injured his hamstring. And with Roddy White sitting on the sidelines, its likely the Falcons will line up Harry Douglas, Kevin Cone and Drew Davis at wide receiver on Sunday.
Falcons mum on status of S-Jax, White -- Mon Oct 14 5:55 pm --
Team expect Jason Snellng to return from concussion
Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith said RB Jason Snelling, who sustained a concussion in the last game, looks to be on track to return this week. Smith did not provide an update on the status of RB Steven Jackson, who has been sidelined since Week 2 with a hamstring injury. There is a belief Jackson could return to practice this week, but nothing is certain. The status of receiver Roddy White coming off a hamstring injury also remains unknown. He had been recovering from a high ankle sprain before the hamstring injury. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Jackson told NBC prior to Atlanta's Week 4 Sunday night loss to the Patriots that he was just waiting for the team to clear him and the Falcons are coming off a bye, so Smith's unwillingness to address his status could be gamesmanship or mean Jackson had a setback. White would be best served to miss a game or two in order to recover from his injuries because Atlanta will need him to return to vintage form to field a competitive offense without Julio Jones.
Julio to have surgery, out for the year -- Wed Oct 9 4:45 pm --
Second opinion confirms fractured foot
Julio Jones will have surgery next week after Dr Robert Anderson confirmed his fractured foot. Out of year. (Chris Mortensen via Twitter)
FF Today's Take: This is has been the speculation since yesterday. The Falcons will move forward with Roddy White (ankle, hamstring) Harry Douglas, Kevin Cone and Drew Davis as their top wideouts.
Falcons concerned about Roddy White -- Wed Oct 9 8:00 am --
Could miss Week 7 with hamstring injury
|The injury-ravaged Atlanta Falcons are concerned that wide receiver Roddy White could miss at least one game because of a left hamstring injury, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
White, who also is nursing a sprained right ankle, pulled his hamstring during Monday night's loss to the New York Jets. (ESPN)|
FF Today's Take: The Falcons have a bye this week so it's concerning that White's hamstring injury is serious enough that there's already talk of him sitting in Week 7. With Julio Jones likely out for an extended period of time, Harry Douglas, Drew Davis and Kevin Cone could be the top three receivers on the field for Atlanta in Week 7.
Roddy White limited in Week 2 -- Mon Sep 16 7:00 am --
High ankle sprain still bothersome
Falcons wide receiver Roddy White played less against the Rams than he did in the opener against the New Orleans Saints. White played 34 of 64 offensive snaps (53 percent) against the Rams. In the opener, he played 37 of 56) snaps (66 percent). (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
FF Today's Take: White is going to a dicey fantasy play again in Week 3 and can't be recommended until he shows he's recovered on the field. White has 5 catches for 40 yards in two games.
Falcons' receivers expected to play -- Sun Sep 15 7:35 am --
Julio and Roddy listed as Questionable
Falcons WRs Julio Jones (knee) and Roddy White (ankle), both listed as questionable for today vs. Rams, are expected to play. (Adam Schefter via Twitter)
FF Today's Take: Both will be risky fantasy plays with White being the most concerning. Harry Douglas and TE Tony Gonzalez could see an increase in targets
Roddy White practices, Questionable -- Fri Sep 13 2:30 pm --
Falcons wide receiver Roddy White returned to practice on Friday and was listed as questionable for Sunday's home opener against the upstart St. Louis Rams. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
FF Today's Take: White was limited on Friday and it's likely he'll play on Sunday on a bad ankle, just like he did last week. He'll be a risky fantasy play in Week 2.
Roddy White continues to miss practice -- Thu Sep 12 4:20 pm --
|Head coach Mike Smith didn’t give many specifics or commentary on the Wednesday injury report, but he did say that he anticipates the week for Roddy White to be similar to last week.
White was limited in practice all last week as the Falcons prepared for the Saints and ended up playing in a limited role. White didn’t practice Wednesday but Smith said he thinks White will play against the Rams on Sunday.
“We kept Roddy out and, again, he’s the guy that played for us (last) week and we anticipate that he’ll play this coming week,” Smith said. (AtlantaFalcons.com)|
FF Today's Take: White told his followers on Twitter "As far as fantasy if I don't participate in practice, then don't start me...it's a red flag," prior to Week 1. Based on how much he served as a decoy, it's hard not to take his advice. High-ankle sprains are tricky to predict, but White will be exactly a month removed from the day he suffered the injury after this Sunday, so he has to be getting close. Check back again on his status in Week 3.
White, Julio miss practice Wednesday -- Wed Sep 11 3:50 pm --
Falcons starting wideouts getting treatment
Wide receiver Roddy White (ankle), left tackle Sam Baker, wide receiver Julio Jones (knee) and defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux (knee) did not practice on Wednesday. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
FF Today's Take: White is dealing with a high ankle sprain and Julio a knee injury. Not much is known about Jones' injury at the moment but more info on both will becoming soon.
White bothered by ankle on Sunday -- Sun Sep 8 8:15 pm --
Falcons receiver was limited by injury
|Roddy White concedes that he’s not the guy he normally is because of a high ankle sprain suffered during the preseason. He was on the field, but he was impaired in comparison to what he otherwise can do.
“It’s hard to cut,” White said. “It’s hard to do just about everything at the position.” (Pro Football Talk)|
FF Today's Take: White finished with two catches for 19 yards and his performance will have fantasy owners scrambling for a replacement in Week 2. Harry Douglas (4 catches) and Steven Jackson (5 catches) benefited from White being less than 100%.
Roddy White will start -- Sun Sep 8 11:00 am --
Dealing with sprained ankle
Falcons say WR Roddy White will start today. (Adam Schefter via Twitter)
FF Today's Take: There's been speculation this morning that White is dealing with a high ankle sprain and is less than 100%. It remains to be seen how effective he will be. He now becomes a risky fantasy play but it all comes down to your tolerance for risk and how deep your other wide receiving options are. White has a great matchup today in what should be a high-scoring game but he could very well be limited.
