|When Darren Sproles was released by the New Orleans Saints in 2013 it was hard to imagine he could maintain his value outside of the Saints offensive system, especially at 31 years od. However he’s caught 95 balls for 755 yards and has scored 10 total touchdowns with the Eagles in two seasons and even at age 33, some beat writers have called him the “best running back on the team”. Sproles may never see the 70-plus receptions that were commonplace during his three years with the Saints, but 60 receptions wouldn’t be surprising during his 2016 season. While Ryan Mathews is healthy, Sproles will likely be used in a backup role, seeing a handful of carries per game, but will retain value as a third-down back in PPR leagues. This is a system that allowed Jamaal Charles to be amongst the leading receivers at the RB position each year.
| Mathews placed on active/NFI list, ankle injury|
Injured working out last week

|Ryan Mathews was placed on the active/NFI list by the Eagles Wednesday due to a sprained ankle suffered by the 28-year-old while working out in San Diego last week. (NJ.com)|
FFToday's Take: Mathews has played 16 games only once in his six-year career. the injury doesn't appear to be serious but it's a reminder of why his fantasy value has trouble climbing any higher than a low-end RB2. Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood and Kenjon Barner round out the Eagles depth chart running back.

Eagles have depth at the RB position

|“Well, you go in thinking that one guy can handle the load,” Pederson said. “If that's Ryan, he can handle all the stuff and the pounding. But with the guys we have, with the depth we have at that position, Darren is obviously a big part of that and now with Wendell [RB Wendell Smallwood] coming on, I think it could be a little bit of a running back by committee.”
FFToday's Take: Ryan Mathews is clearly the lead back of the committee but the depth the Eagles have a the position means Ryan Mathews value is likely capped at an RB2 level. Darren Sproles and perhaps Kenjon Barner will also eat into Mathews workload.
