Vikings sign veteran for QB competition
Matt Cassel wasn't out of work long after being released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday as the quarterback has agreed to a contract with the Minnesota Vikings, a source confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Cassel will compete for the starting job with incumbent starter Christian Ponder, the source said. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: Cassel's best effort came in 2010 (3116 yds, 27 TDs, 7 INTs). Since then he has been a turnover machine throwing 21 INTs to only 16 touchdowns. The Vikings will need to add a receiver before either Cassel or Ponder is can be considered by fantasy owners.

FF Today's Take: The Chiefs tried to trade Cassel but found no takers likely because no team wanted to take on his contract. The Vikings could use a veteran QB behind Christian Ponder and have been rumored to be interested. Cassel is off the fantasy radar.

FF Today's Take: Between Kevin Kolb, John Skelton, Ryan Lindley and Brian Hoyer, the Cardinals' quarterbacks left a lot to be desired in 2012. Cassel is not elite, and some might argue that he's not even an average NFL quarterback but a change of scenery and a new offense could re-energize him.
