2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
Reggie Bush was everything the Lions hoped he would be when they signed him in the previous offseason. He provided a big-play threat at the running back position—displaying dazzling tackle-breaking ability and sure hands—on his way to 1,000-plus yards rushing and more than 500 yards receiving. Bush stayed relatively healthy, playing in 14 games, but missed parts of others with nagging lower-body injuries. In an effort to keep Bush fresh, the Lions utilized Joique Bell in a similar role. Fantasy owners and Lions coaches soon realized that the fundamentally sound Bell could be trusted as a runner and receiver. With Bell signed to an extension, and a familiar system in the works, expect Bush's carry numbers to drop but his receptions to rise as he slides into a Darren Sproles type of role in the offense. Bush should shine in PPR leagues, but barring a rash of injuries to the stable of Lions RBs, expect him to have a hard time approaching his top-10 finish of 2013, becoming more of an RB2/3 option.

Comment: Bush had the best fantasy season of his career in 2013. It's not likely to be duplicated but he's still on the RB2/3 radar.

Injury Calvin questionable, Bush doubtful
Lions excpted to be without two offensive stars
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Oct 27, 7:45 am

Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson took part in his third straight practice today, but when he walked off of the field, he made no promises about his status for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons (9:30 a.m., Fox). "I'm getting right," he said. "Trying to get right." Lions running back Reggie Bush is doubtful for Sunday because of an ankle injury he aggravated in last weekend's win over the New Orleans Saints. (Detroit Free Press)

FFToday's Take: Reading between the lines, Calvin Johnson will likely sit this week but he will be a gametime decision. The Lions play at 9:30 am Eastern tomorrow in London. If they sit, both players can use the bye week (9) to get healthy. Joique Bell is a solid RB2 with RB1 upside against a weak Falcons run defense.

Injury Calvin Johnson, Reggie Bush inactive
Lions without two key components
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 26, 8:45 am

Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions receiver, Calvin Johnson, has been scratched for Sunday's game in London against the Atlanta Falcons, after testing out the ankle early at Wembley Stadium. He ran the perimeter of the field and a couple routes before shutting it down. Detroit will be missing offensive firepower outside of Johnson as well. RB Reggie Bush (ankle), TE Brandon Pettigrew (foot), TE Eric Ebron (hamstring), TE Joseph Fauria (sprained ankle), RT LaAdrian Waddle (brain) and QB Kellen Moore are the other inactives. (MLive)

FFToday's Take: With Johnson and Bush inactive Golden Tate and Joique Bell should be the leaders on offense today. Theo Riddick will play a complementary role to Bell.

Injury Reggie Bush misses practice Thursday
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Oct 23, 10:00 am

Detroit Lions
Running back Reggie Bush sat out Thursday's practice with an ankle injury after sIt's a concerning downgrade for Bush, who told WXYT-FM before practice that he's "going to do everything (he) can to be out there on the field Sunday" after sitting out much of the second half of last week's win over the Saints. (NFL.com)

FFToday's Take: After watching Bush miss must of the fourth quarter due to his ankle injury, it will be hard for fantasy owners to trust Bush this week even if he does suit up. Joique Bell should do most of the damage out of the backfield against the Falcons.

Injury Calvin Johnson not likely to play in Week 7
TE Eric Ebron also not expected to play
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 17, 1:30 pm

Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell indicated today that Johnson likely will miss his second straight game because of the right ankle injury he suffered in a loss to the Buffalo Bills earlier this month. Asked whether he expected Johnson to play Sunday, Caldwell said, "I've been surprised before because he's an unusual guy and, just talking to him at practice, he's feeling good and coming along. Miracles have happened." (Detroit Free Press)

FFToday's Take: In addition to Johnson, tight end Eric Ebron (hamstring) is expected to sit as well. Golden Tate will once again be Matthew Stafford's top target in the passing game. RB Reggie Bush is expected to return this week.

Injury Lions' Eric Ebron, Reggie Bush limited in practice
Theo Riddick re-aggravates hamstring strain
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Oct 15, 4:39 pm

Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions had six skill position players sidelined or limited for Wednesday's practice, including rookie tight end Eric Ebron. Ebron is a new addition to the practice report, missing a portion of the session with a hamstring injury. Also limited was running back Reggie Bush, who was returning to the practice field after missing all of last week with a twisted ankle. All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) and tight end Joseph Fauria (ankle) remained sidelined and were joined by wide receiver Jeremy Ross (ankle) and running back Theo Riddick, who re-aggravated a hamstring strain against the Vikings. (mLive.com)

FFToday's Take: The injuries to Detroit's offense have sapped the fantasy value of Matthew Stafford and the passing game. If Reggie Bush is feeling good after a week of practice he and Joique Bell will be counted on to shoulder the load against a Saints team that ranks 16th in the NFL against the run with 112 rushing yards allowed per game.

Injury Calvin Johnson, Bush sit Friday, unlikely to play
Lions could be without two offensive starters
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 10, 12:10 pm

Detroit Lions
Coach Jim Caldwell didn't want to make his decision known this morning, but after Calvin Johnson missed his third straight practice because of a high ankle sprain today, it seems highly unlikely that the Pro Bowl receiver will play for the Detroit Lions on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions also could be without running back Reggie Bush, who missed his third straight practice today with a sprained ankle. (Detroit Free Press)

FFToday's Take: It looks like it will be the Golden Tate and Joique Bell show for the Lions this week. After being used a decoy the last two weeks fantasy owners can safely leave Johnson out of their lineups in Week 6. Joique Bell and Theo Riddick are expected to handle running back duties with Bush on the sideline.

Injury Lions could be without Megatron, Bush in Week 6
Ankle injuries
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 6, 5:05 pm

Detroit Lions
Calvin Johnson aggravated an ankle injury against Buffalo and he could miss a week or two because of it. That would probably be a smart move by Detroit coach Jim Caldwell, because in 37 snaps two Sundays ago against the Jets and 28 snaps Sunday against the Bills, Johnson was invisible. Detroit also could be without Reggie Bush (ankle) Sunday at Minnesota. The Lions finished the game with a running back named George Winn on Sunday. He’s on his sixth team in 17 months, and the Lions may have to ride him until Bush and the concussed Joique Bell are ready to return. (SI.com)

FFToday's Take: Golden Tate would continue to serve as Detroit's leading receiver if Johnson is forced to sit, which appears likely. Joique Bell (concussion) was cleared for physical activity late last week and should tentatively be expected to be the lead back for the Lions when they travel to Minnesota in Week 6.

Injury Reggie Bush to see bulk of backfield work
Joique Bell and Theo Riddick ruled out
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 3, 8:00 pm

Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell (concussion) has been cleared for physical activity but has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills (1 p.m., Fox). With Bell out, Reggie Bush will get the bulk of the backfield work against the NFL's No. 3-ranked rush defense. George Winn will be the backup. (Detroit Free Press)

FFToday's Take: In addition to Bell, running back Theo Riddick (hamstring) has also been ruled out meaning Bush may be in a workhorse role for the Lions this weekend. He's a solid RB2 in Week 5.

Injury Joique Bell yet to be cleared from concussion
Theo Riddick also sidelined with hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 2, 5:25 pm

Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell has yet to be cleared after suffering a concussion during Sunday's game against the New York Jets. Bell, who was in the locker room for a brief moment Thursday but was not allowed to talk to the media, has 48 carries for 152 yards and a touchdown this season. He also has nine receptions for 73 yards. He did not practice Thursday. RB Theo Riddick (hamstring) missed practice for the second day in a row as well. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Should Bell and Riddick both miss this week, the Lions would look to give more carries to Reggie Bush and use George Winn, who was brought up from the practice squad this week. Bell hasn't been overly productive over the last two weeks after scoring a touchdown in Week 1 and amassing 97 total yards in Week 2, but needs to remain on rosters. The Lions will face the Vikings and Falcons in Weeks 6 and 8, respectively.

Injury Lions RB Bush, TE Pettigrew limited at practice
Veteran tailback wearing ice pack on left knee
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Sep 10, 4:41 pm

Detroit Lions
Running back Reggie Bush (knee), safety James Ihedigbo (neck) and tight end Brandon Pettigrew (foot) were all held out of portions of Wednesday's session. Bush and Pettigrew were both new additions to the practice report. Prior to practice, the veteran running back was seen sporting an ice pack on his left knee. (mlive.com)

FFToday's Take: Bush is nursing a sore left knee but his status for week two does not appear to be in jeopardy at this time. Continue to monitor his activity levels in practice this week. If Bush were to sit out this weekend, fellow RB Joique Bell would see his fantasy stock climb heading into the Lions' matchup against the Panthers.
