2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
Once an elite fantasy player, the wheels seem to have finally come off veteran running back Jamaal Charles. After spending his entire nine-year career in Kansas City, Charles and the Chiefs parted ways this off-season. Injuries led to Charles playing in just eight total games over his past two seasons, but the Broncos seem to believe that there is still some life left in the legs of this once superstar talent. After two knee surgeries, the 30-year-old has a long road back to getting on the field, let alone getting back to fantasy stardom. Not only that, but he's going to have to fight for carries in a crowded Denver backfield. While neither C.J. Anderson nor Devontae Booker looked particularly great in 2016, both players know the Denver offense and they're both back this season. The upside here is tremendous, but drafting Charles is not without some serious bust potential. However, if Anderson and Booker look like they did last season, Charles could get an opportunity to show that he's still the same guy who once won his owners fantasy championships.

Injury RB Booker expected back early in regular season
HC Vance Joseph comments on RBBC in Denver
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Aug 16, 8:30 am

Denver Broncos
Joseph has said he plans to take a committee approach with his running backs. “The running back position, you need two or three guys who are going to carry the load,” he said in May. “It’s no longer a one-guy position.” Anderson is the starter and returned to camp this year in the best shape of his career. And although Booker quickly went down with a wrist injury, he is expected to be back early in the regular season and the team has high hopes for him. Joseph said that while Booker is listed as the No. 2 back on the depth chart, he was pushing to be No. 1 before the injury. That says a lot. (Denver Post)

FFToday's Take: Denver's rushing attack is lining up to be a nightmare for fantasy owners to decipher. Knowing that the coaching staff feels C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker (wrist) are that close on the depth chart while reserving a role for Jamaal Charles and possibly rookie De'Angelo Henderson will prevent anyone in Denver's backfield from being more than a RB3/Flex this season.

De'Angelo Henderson shines in preseason opener
Denver RB was drafted in sixth round
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Aug 15, 8:50 am

Denver Broncos
DeVontae Booker, Denver’s No. 2 running back who had been pushing to be No. 1, suffered a fractured wrist when camp opened, and he'll be out for the rest of camp. They also have Jamaal Charles, Stevan Ridley and along with the arrival of rookie De'Angelo Henderson (54 yards and a long TD run in the preseason opener), see the return of No. 1 RB C.J. Anderson, Booker and Juwan Thompson. (Denver Post)

FFToday's Take: “What we saw tonight is what he’s been since we drafted the guy in the spring,” first-year Broncos head coach Vance Joseph said of Henderson after the 24-17 victory over the Bears. “So I’m not surprised to see that tonight.” The Broncos have a lot of talented backs and are looking at a full-fledged competition for touches in the backfield.

Siemian getting comfortable in McCoy's offense
QBs likely to split first team reps during preseason
By: Jake Gordon | Tue Aug 8, 7:00 pm

Denver Broncos
Trevor Siemian has been here before, looking ahead to a preseason game in his college town of Chicago, awaiting his first live opportunity to audition for the Broncos’ starting job. He knows the routine, knows the inherent pressure and has shown a knack for managing both. But recently, something changed for him as he took more repetitions and saw more time in Mike McCoy‘s system. As the offense got more complex in practice, Siemian appeared to hit his stride. “I can’t tell exactly when, but probably a week or so I just kind of felt a little more comfortable, like things were clicking for me and I got a big-picture thought of how we’re trying to attack scheme and defenses,” Siemian said Tuesday. Thursday, in the Broncos’ preseason opener against the Bears, Siemian will start and play approximately a quarter and a half before handing the keys to Paxton Lynch. In the Broncos’ second preseason game against the 49ers in Santa Clara, Calif., Lynch will start and Siemian will likely take over in the second quarter. (DenverPost.com)

FFToday's Take: Quarterbacks Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch are battling for the starting job in Denver and how they play over the next two weeks will be a key factor in who wins the job. Neither guy is being drafted as a QB1 despite the presence of playmakers Demaryius Thomas and newcomer Jamaal Charles lining up in this offense. The winner of this battle has enough upside to be a borderline fantasy starter and makes for a quality QB2 to target on draft day.

Injury Wrist injury for Devontae Booker, out 6-8 weeks
Broncos begin training camp Thursday
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jul 26, 11:00 pm

Denver Broncos
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Devontae Booker has a wrist injury. He’s expected to miss up to 6-8 weeks. It’s unclear how he was injured. He’s currently expected to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. He would be able to exit PUP at any time before Week One. (Pro Football Talk)

FFToday's Take: The cause of the injury is unknown at this time. Jamaal Charles has been cleared for camp but he's expected to be brought along slowly during August. Rookie De'Angelo Henderson is currently next on the depth chart but if the Broncos believe Booker's injury lingers into the season, the could go after a free agent (Rashad Jennings, DeAngelo Williams) for depth.

Injury Jamaal Charles cleared for camp
Will likely be limited
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jul 26, 12:33 pm

Denver Broncos
Joseph said Jamaal Charles has been cleared for everything. Team will start him slow, though. (Nicki Jhabvala on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Charles has played in 8 games over the last two years as a results to multiple knee injuries. He missed off-season workouts and will likely be limited during the early portions of camp. Charles fantasy value is all over the place but he should be considered a late-round flier until he proves his health in training camp.

Jamaal Charles "back to normal"
RB pronounces himself ahead of schedule
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jun 29, 4:55 pm

Denver Broncos
In an exclusive interview with Denver7, Jamaal Charles revealed that he sits ahead of schedule in his recovery from left knee surgery: "I am doing everything. I have been cutting the last couple of days with the guys during the offseason workouts. I feel like the way I am cutting that I am back to the normal me, man. It feels good to be moving around again. I have been knowing this the whole offseason (that the knee was fine). Nobody can take nothing away from me except God when my time is up. I am still 30 years old. I still have a lot of special stuff to do," Charles said. (Denver 7)

FFToday's Take: Charles has a shot to lead the backfield in carries if he can squeeze one more vintage year out of the body. With only eight games played over his last two seasons in Kansas City, however, the Broncos may feel compelled to use him as a complementary back in order to protect him from himself. If Charles is able to rediscover his pre-2015 injury, he has RB1 upside. The more likely result is he will split carries with C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker - at least early on - in 2017.
