2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
Joe Flacco has turned one fortunate Super Bowl run and a series of mediocre seasons into a highly lucrative career. Maybe because it's his quiet nature, or humble beginnings as a Blue Hen from Delaware, but Flacco seems to dodge much of the criticism of other highly paid quarterbacks are subjected to. He throws a pretty deep ball, but turns the ball over too much compared with how many touchdown passes he adds.

He was the same ho-hum quarterback he's been most of his career last year, throwing 20 touchdown passes to 15 interceptions, even though he set a career high in yardage with 4,317. I've said for years that Flacco is a better quarterback when his pass attempts are limited. Unfortunately low volume generally means low production for fantasy. Compounding his general malaise is an early season back injury that has cost him the first few weeks of camp. It doesn't look to be a long term concern, but back injuries are notoriously fickle, especially ones that are happening to 6'6" statues in the pocket. Even with the addition of Jeremy Maclin, Flacco's receivers don't jump off the page, and the upside in his game just isn't there. Outside of two-quarterback or very deep standard leagues, Flacco isn't worth much roster consideration.

Injury Jeremy Maclin expected to sit Week 7
Shoulder injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 22, 11:00 am

Baltimore Ravens
Initially, the #Ravens believed WR Jeremy Maclin was going to play today. After testing his shoulder, he’s now out for today. Back for TNF. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It was reported early this morning that Maclin would go but apparently there's been a change of heart. Without Maclin, Joe Flacco will be throwing to Mike Wallace and Michael Campanaro at the receiver position.

Injury Flacco on track to play in regular season opener
John Harbaugh says his QB is "ready to roll"
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Sep 6, 12:06 pm

Baltimore Ravens
John Harbaugh said that Flacco has not experienced any setbacks since returning to practice last weekend. As a result, the coach declared the quarterback “ready to roll” despite his limited on-field preparations. Flacco agreed with the coach. “It’s not ideal but I feel good now and I’m ready to go,” Flacco said, via Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. (ProFootball Talk)

FFToday's Take: Expect Joe Flacco and the passing game to have a little rust against the Bengals this week. He hasn't seen many reps prior to this week and has several new faces in the huddle.

Injury Ravens hoping to have Flacco back next week
Baltimore quarterback nursing a back injury
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Aug 23, 12:30 pm

Baltimore Ravens
Ravens offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg acknowledged that he’s “twitching” to get Joe Flacco back on the field, but he remains confident that there is enough time for the starting quarterback to be ready ahead of the Sept. 10 regular-season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. “As long he's back in a reasonable amount of time to prepare, I think we'll just be fine there,” Mornhinweg said after Wednesday’s practice. The Ravens are hoping Flacco is able to return to the field at some point next week, so he gets a few extra days to practice and prepare for the Bengals game. (Baltimore Sun)

FFToday's Take: The Ravens have consistently said that Joe Flacco's back injury is minor and all signs point to a return some time next week. He has also dealt with knee injuries in the past so giving the veteran plenty of rest during the preseason is not alarming. His return to the field will be welcomed by an offense that has averaged merely 188 passing yards over its first two preseason contests with backup Ryan Mallet under center.

Injury Joe Flacco won't play in the preseason
Expected to be ready Week 1
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Aug 11, 3:00 pm

Baltimore Ravens
The team now has a more definitive timeframe for QB Joe Flacco’s return. The 10th-year standout has been re-examined, and his progress from a back issue is good. He will return to practice in the preseason, but he is not expected to play in these games. The plan is for Flacco to be the starting quarterback against Cincinnati in the regular season opener on Sept. 10. (BaltimoreRavens.com)

FFToday's Take: The Ravens are wisely going to take it easy with their starting quarterback. It's a little uneasy that Flacco won't see any live action before Week 1 but fantasy owners can continue drafting Flacco as a low-end QB2 with confidence.

Injury Flacco could miss 3-6 weeks with back injury
Disc issue in his back
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jul 26, 7:40 pm

Baltimore Ravens
Ravens QB Joe Flacco is preparing to miss 3-6 wks with a disc issue in his back. Out at least a week or 2, sources tell me & @TomPelissero. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It's been a rough couple days for the Ravens and training camp hasn't enough begun. First RB Kenneth Dixon has surgery on his knee and now Flacco can't shake a disc problem in his back. The Ravens aren't ready to turn the offense over to Ryan Mallett and are hoping the starting quarterback will only be sideline a week or two.
