2015 Outlook
Depth Chart
Since Todd Haley’s hiring as offensive coordinator in 2012, Ben Roethlisberger has blossomed into a bona fide QB1, but there is a good bet that when he went bonkers with a 50-point game in Week 8 last year he was on your fantasy bench. Did you then curse your luck, pass it off as a statistical aberration and have him on your bench the very next week when he threw another 6 touchdown passes? (let’s hope I’m not the only one!). After watching the Steelers offense shift to a pass oriented mentality since Haley’s arrival, I’ve been targeting Roethlisberger as my QB2 for several seasons now. After his No.5 overall finish in 2014, I think the value days are over.

With career highs in attempts (608), yards (4,952), touchdowns (32) and completion percentage (67.1), Roethlisberger is taking his game to the fantasy stratosphere. With two of the league’s elite playmakers at his disposal in Le’Veon Bell, and Antonio Brown, Roethlisberger not only has the weapons, but also the perfect situation to repeat, or even improve upon his fantastic season. With a pass offense built around his talents, and a defense that hasn’t significantly improved this offseason, look for Big Ben’s pass attempts to again approach 600. Despite the projected workload and production, Roethlisberger doesn’t come without risks. The AFC south defenses, especially Cleveland and Jacksonville, should be much improved, and as a playoff team, the Steeler’s overall schedule will be tougher. Roethlisberger will also be without Bell for three games to start the season, which is a huge blow to the offensive game plan. Either way you slice it, the Steelers are going to have to throw to win games, and that means Ben has a chance to stay in the top-5 conversation. I would be thrilled to sit back and take him as my QB1 after the first tier studs come off the board.

Injury No practice for injured Steelers' offensive stars
Roethisberger, Brown and Williams appear questionable at best
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jan 14, 6:40 pm

Cincinnati Bengals
QB Ben Roethlisberger and WR Antonio Brown were not full participants in practice for the second day in a row, but that could change tomorrow. The plan for Roethlisberger (shoulder separation) all along was to not participate fully in practice until Friday, the last full practice before Sunday’s divisional playoff game in Denver. Brown, though, has not been cleared to practice after sustaining a concussion in the wild-card playoff victory in Cincinnati. Meantime, RB DeAngelo Williams (foot) still has not practiced since being injured in the season finale against Cleveland and is not expected to play in Denver. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

FFToday's Take: In terms of likelihood to play this week, it appears the order at the moment is Roethlisberger, Brown and then Williams. The Steelers are hopeful Brown can be cleared from the concussion protocol program and play even if he doesn’t practice. Friday figures to be a big day in determining his status. Making matters worse for fantasy purposes, Pittsburgh plays in the last of the four playoff games this weekend. The Denver defense is shaping up to be a great play.

Injury Steelers prepping Landry Jones
team still hoping Roethlisberger can play
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Jan 13, 6:20 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Landry Jones wouldn't mind a shot at redemption. Ben Roethlisberger with his mess of a right shoulder hopes it doesn't come to that. Jones took the majority of the snaps with the starters for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday, prepping for Sunday's playoff visit to Denver just in case Roethlisberger can't find a way to make it work with the sprained shoulder on his throwing arm. (USA Today)

FFToday's Take: Ben Roethlisberger won't be 100 percent when the Steelers take the field against the Broncos. The question is whether he will be healthy enough to start and finish the game. Landry Jones should continue to receive the bulk of the work in practice but hasn't thrown a touchdown since week seven. The potential absence of star receiver Antonio Brown only adds to the cloudy fantasy forecast for Pittsburgh's quarterback tandem.

Injury Antonio Brown "not looking good" vs. Broncos
Earlier report had WR trending in the right direction
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jan 11, 10:20 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown will likely miss Sunday’s divisional round game against the Denver Broncos due to a concussion, reports ESPN’s Bob Holtzman. Brown sustained the head injury on a hit by Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict in Pittsburgh's 18-16 win in Saturday's AFC wild-card matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Burfict was flagged, helping set up a game-winning field goal by Steelers PK Chris Boswell. (Sports Illustrated)

FFToday's Take: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette suggested Brown "should be able to play" earlier in the day, but this report along with ESPN's Bob Holtzman and NFL Media's Ian Rapoport suggests the receiver is facing long odds of playing in the Divisional Round. With Ben Roethlisberger likely at far less than 100 percent, Denver's defense/special teams is shaping up to be a good play in DFS and for owners in playoff fantasy leagues.

Injury Positive signs for Big Ben, Antonio Brown
Steelers' studs might be available for Divisional game
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Jan 11, 7:00 am

Pittburgh Steelers
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown — have a chance to be ready Sunday for a divisional-round playoff game at Denver. Roethlisberger’s injured right shoulder is “sore,” but he said there apparently is no ligament damage and is “day to day” for the top-seeded Broncos. Also, All-Pro receiver Antonio Brown, who was put in concussion protocol after a hit to the helmet by Burfict following an incomplete pass, is said to be fine and should be able to play against the Broncos. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

FFToday's Take: Roethlisberger's shoulder injury appears to be the biggest concern heading into a divisional matchup with the Broncos. It's likely he'll be limited in practice this week or perhaps held out entirely. Antonio Brown suffered an apparent concussion, but such early week optimism suggests he might not have suffered a concussion at all.

Injury Big Ben expected to play Sunday
QB practiced all week
By: John Canario | Fri Dec 4, 5:00 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
The Steelers saw two of their players leave last Sunday’s game with concussions, but both quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and linebacker Ryan Shazier are expected to play against the Colts on Sunday night. Roethlisberger was a full participant in practice all week and Shazier moved to that level in Thursday’s session, leading the Steelers to list them both as probable for Week 13. Both players have missed games due to other injuries this season, but their quick progress through the concussion protocol will have them helping the playoff push in Pittsburgh. (NBC Sports)

FFToday's Take: Roethlisberger is a must-start this weekend against the Colts. The banged up veteran rattled off 456 passing yards last week, and has passed for at least 330 yards in five of the seven games he's played in this year.

Injury Big Ben put through concussion protocol
Should be OK for Week 13
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 29, 9:15 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
Ben Roethlisberger left the game late Sunday and was put in the NFL’s concussion protocol as backup Landry Jones finished up the final series. Roethlisberger reported that he had symptoms of a possible concussion, and that is when they pulled him from the game and put him in the protocol mandated by the NFL. It will mean he must pass several tests this week before he can play Sunday against Indianapolis at Heinz Field. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

FFToday's Take: Roethlisberger missed the last couple minutes of the Seattle loss but did extensive damage during the game with 456 passing yards and 1 TD. The consensus thinking is that he will be able to pass the concussion tests this week and should be able to play in Week 13.
