Grab a Helmet

Gabriel Davis @ NYJ

I know this seems like a shot in the dark, but hear me out. If you watched even a minute of Monday afternoon’s game, you’d see that John Brown is not healthy. He’s already missed practice this week, and I anticipate him sitting out, hence the Davis pick. A few weeks ago the rookie 4th rounder filled in for Brown and saw 9 targets. The Jets are an abject failure in all phases of football and Josh Allen needs his swagger back. Davis will use his size and speed to get deep for a score, making up a cheap DFS or waiver wire pick-up.

Tee Higgins vs CLE

It’s time to seriously consider the fact that the rookie might be the Bengals No.1 receiver. Despite not playing in Week 1, Higgins is 24th in the NFL in targets, with 16 coming in the last two weeks. His size (6’4’’) and speed have made him a matchup nightmare outside, and Cleveland has given up the 4th most fantasy points to receivers. The Bengals are likely to be in negative game scripts for most of the year, so don’t be shocked if Higgins keeps climbing up the weekly rankings.

Evan Engram @ PHI (Thu)

Maybe this pick is more wishful thinking than anything because I have Engram in a few leagues, but how in the world has he not been more productive this year?! He’s the best playmaker on an offense that has been struggling, and has an offensive coordinator known for tight end usage. Despite being 8th in targets for tight ends, he’s 22nd in points, but I think he finally breaks through Thursday night. The Eagles have been susceptible to tight ends (Kittle went nuclear a few weeks ago) and it’s just a matter of time that the targets turn into something….right?

Grab some Pine

JuJu Smith-Schuster @ TEN

A totally forgotten man on a white hot offense, Smith-Schuster has been a major disappointment in 2020. Though he leads the team in targets, he’s been nearly invisible in 3 of the 5 games this season, and simply isn’t seeing the volume he needs to return to 2018 levels of production. It’s been a season and a half since his breakout 2018, and we’ve got more evidence that he’s a complimentary player rather than a difference maker. While the Titans defense isn’t a unit to avoid, Smith-Schuster as anything more than a WR3 is.

Julian Edelman vs SF

Quickness, timing, and chemistry with TB12 were the keys to Edelman’s fantasy production. Other than a MONSTER Week 2, Edelman hasn’t been a starting fantasy receiver. The passing game can’t get on track, and it’s been nearly a calendar year since Edelman last found the endzone. It’s time to look for other options with upside.

Jamison Crowder vs. BUF

I know Crowder has been the only ray of light in the nightmare that has become the Jets season, but let’s be honest, even before last week’s clunker against Miami, did anyone really think Crowder was going to sustain his 100+ yards per game average? Crowder is a great pro, and solid slot receiver, but he is out of his element trying to serve as a WR1. Yeah he went off for 7-115-1 against this team in Week 1, but a large chunk of that was a fluky 69-yard screen that went for a late game touchdown. Keep rolling him out in PPR leagues as a WR3, but he’s going to have middling standard league value on this disaster of a team.
