The Shot Caller's Report - WRs
Your Weekly Guide To Fantasy Lineups: Wk 1
9/4/08
Positions: QBs | RBs | WRs

Wide Receivers

Start 'Em:

Randy Moss @ KC
Really, it’ll be up to the Patriots how they choose to beat the Chiefs. I think both the infantry and the Air Force get theirs, and Moss, the best WR in the game, scores early and often.

Terrell Owens @ CLE
The Mouth That Roared is a stone-cold lock against the Browns.

Reggie Wayne v. CHI
The Manning-Wayne connection hasn’t yet fully evolved and Wayne is already a man among boys. When Marvin Harrison went down last season he stepped up and delivered over 100 yards per game on average. Harrison is back but not 100%--look for Wayne to continue his ascendancy to the number one slot.

Plaxico Burress v. WAS
The enigmatic Mr. Burress should find considerable breathing room against a middle of the pack Redskins passing D starring Carlos Rogers/Fred Smoot.

Calvin Johnson @ ATL
He’s big, fast, and has the body control of a Chinese platform diver (which one?). Last season was shot with injuries; this season should be the coming-out party. Hell, Megatron should even make Kitna look like a steal at his ADP. It starts here.

Jason Witten @ CLE
The man goes out and catches 96 balls and seven TDs last year; against Cleveland it will be more of the same in what should be a shoot-out.

Santonio Holmes v. HOU
Third year break-out candidate Holmes plays pitch and catch against a maturing but still incomplete Texans defense (starring Mario Williams but not much in the secondary).

Dallas Clark v. CHI
Clark will be the beneficiary of Harrison’s slow return from injury and jurisprudence.

Nate Burleson @ BUF
Matt Hasselbeck likes to throw. Matt Hasselbeck throws very well. Matt Hasselbeck only has one person to throw to, this man. Thus is the calculus of Nate Burleson.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh @ BAL
Balty doesn’t have the horses to go the distance against the Bengals firepower. Lactic acid accumulation aids the solid but not flashy T.J. in a good statistical showing.

Bench 'Em:

Roddy White v. DET
Roddy exceeded expectations last season, and it is the Lions, but there are too many unknowns (coaching, quarterbacking) to start him this week.

Courtney Taylor @ BUF
If this is your deep sleeper with Engram out, let him sleep a little longer.

Darrell Jackson @ OAK
The Team That Al Davis Destroyed will shut down a WR whose sun has set some years ago.

Derrick Mason v. CIN
Mason is a true ironman along the lines of Joey Galloway but even he can’t throw the ball to himself.

Justin Gage v. JAX
When called upon to throw the ball, Vince Young doesn’t do good things. This has all the marks of a low-scoring, grind-it-out game.
