There’s nothing quite like spending the better part of Sunday
afternoon and evening digesting a heavy dose of football, especially
when one is monitoring not only the rise and fall of NFL teams,
but also the rise and fall of one’s fantasy team. So, what’s
the “buzz” after this first Sunday in the NFL from a
fantasy perspective? Let’s take a look…….
What We’re Talking About:
- The
story of the day, fantasy-wise, was easily Randy
Moss. Put me in the group that preached it loud and proud
that Moss was done. Finished. Nothing left. What Moss showed
on Sunday was an emphatic signal that those who drafted him
may get a huge steal this season. Some fantasy enthusiasts will
falsely claim this morning that they knew it all along….but
the truth is most drafted Moss with only moderate hopes that
he’d be a factor this season. Is Moss suddenly an elite fantasy
WR again? That question will no doubt be the hottest topic of
discussion on this opening Monday morning of the season.
- Think Moss owners are excited? How about Tom Brady owners?
That’s an excited subgroup this Monday morning….
- Ditto for Kitna owners. It may be frustrating to have
a Lions WR some weeks the way Martz has them spreading the ball
around, but Kitna owners are likely not going to be shutting up
all week about how their guy is going to lead them to a title.
- Rookie running backs. Those who drafted Adrian
Peterson or Marshawn
Lynch in a redraft in the last few weeks are going to be
talking non-stop about what took place on Sunday. It was expected
that Peterson would be brought along slowly….and yes, Chester
Taylor did get hurt….but does anyone honestly believe the Vikings
are going to be able or willing to keep Peterson off the field
in the weeks to come? The buzz is that Peterson’s time may be
now. And, he could become this year’s Frank Gore in terms of
maximum return on a fourth round draft pick. As for Lynch, he’s
going to need Losman to throw for more than 97 yards in the
near future to keep defenses honest, but he appears to be the
real deal in every respect as well.
- Drew Brees owners need to be talked down from the ledge
right now. The buzz is that Brees’ first game is eerily
similar to how he played in December of ’06. Have defensive
coordinators figured the Saints out?
- If you run into someone this morning that looks like he got
punched in the gut, it might be a Steven
Jackson owner. Most guys were elated to grab him with the
#2 overall pick in their drafts. He’s going to rebound from
this, right? Yeah, I think so….I’m a little more concerned about
Larry
Johnson, though.
- What a rough night for the Giants. Starting RB Brandon Jacobs
may be lost for a few weeks with a sprained knee and QB Eli
Manning spends time on the sidelines with a “bruised” shoulder.
Derrick
Ward? Good think I backed up Jacobs with Reuben
Droughns.
What We’re Wondering:
- Didn’t the Jaguars stop the run last year pretty effectively?
What the heck was that? Chris
Brown averages 9.2 yards per carry as he and LenWhale White
total 241 yds on the ground!
- So, how often is Heath Evans going to be the recipient
of goal line carries in New England? (Ask any Maroney owner this
question this morning and you better be prepared to take a step
back quickly)
- Why did I pass on Ronald
Curry at the draft for the likes of Isaac Bruce, Donte’
Stallworth, and D.J. Hackett?
- Should I actually try to pick up Antwaan
Randle-El this week?
- Who’s carrying the rock if Cadillac Williams sits
on the sidelines with bruised ribs? Michael Pittman? Ernest Graham?
So, there it is- the “buzz” for this week. Don’t
let the Monday blues get the best of you today…find somebody…..and
talk some Football!
