The Miasma - Week 1
9/13/04

1. I remember the time when I had Jerome Bettis and gnashed my teeth because no matter how many yards he gained, every time the ball was on the one yard line Kordell Stewart would swipe the touchdown. Now he is the touchdown stealer. Guess who owns Duce Staley this year?

2. Curtis Martin and Marshall Faulk are washed up, right? Rich Gannon and Vinny Testaverde, too, right?

3. A few years ago I knocked the Patriots after their first Super Bowl win, insinuating that they won with very little talent. I was wrong by a mile. Brady is money, and Dillon makes a great team even better.

4. It is amazing how good a great receiver can make a team's second option receiver. Witness Terrell Owns in Philadelphia. Suddenly Todd Pinkston is a viable fantasy 2 or 3 receiver. Last year you couldn't give him away.

5. In a related note, don't let anyone fool you; Isaac Bruce is the number one receiver in St. Louis. He made Torry Holt a bigger fantasy producer. Even last year during Holt's big season, opposing defenses always rolled coverages Bruce's way, and Holt benefited from single coverage. Whenever the Rams need a play, it goes to Bruce. Ask the Cardinals, who last week rolled coverage to Holt-Bruce destroyed them.

6. I pity those who had to face opponents with both McNabb and Owens or Culpepper and Moss last week.

7. I think there is something to this Denver running back development thing.

8. I think it's time for a requiem for Jay Fiedler. Maybe that's my next poetry submission.

9. Never forget, NEVER forget-he's still Ron Dayne.

10. Fast stat-number of points separating the top ten fantasy kickers last week: three. Remember that when next year's draft rolls around.

11. I faced Tony Gonzalez in both of my leagues last week-one point scored and no worries for the rest of the season. Woohoo!
