Wow
longtime no see or write. Can you believe it's been three
weeks since the 'Ol Commish penned an article! I may be a little
rusty or with everything that is going on in our country I may have
had momentary loss of interest in fantasy football. Never fear though.
As I was preparing today for this weekend I started to get the familiar
itch. I thought I'd throw down some random thoughts for you to see
if we couldn't clear the fantasy air.
What do you do if your commish isn't available during the weekend
or during the week? Do you have an assistant? For instance in my
job I find that I travel out of town without access to league stuff
a couple of times a year more than that really. I have tried various
remedies but none are great. While it is best if the commish is
always available that kind of lends itself to the thinking that
he might be a bum and not capable difficult tasks. Whereas if you
get a commish that is too upwardly mobile then he may be too busy
to give the league the right attention. I run two leagues and this
is how we managed it this past weekend while I was in Chicago at
meetings. In the CCL we voted on and wrote into the rules that there
is always an assistant commish to handle duties when the head commish
(me) is gone. I gave the assistant commish the passwords and the
run-down on the league site and he handled things marvelously. We
also set down rules that if any major issues or disputes come up
while the commish is gone that the league is put in hiatus until
the commish can return to settle the problems. In league two the
MFFL, nothing happens until I return. Now this isn't as big a deal
this year as the site mostly automated. The only things put on hold
were adds and drops. I recommend the first way
if you can determine
an assistant commish to run the league in your absence then do it
because it makes everything flow easier. You really never know when
you are going to need the help.
As I mentioned before I was at the airport on my way to Chicago
when it was announced that we were bombing Afghanistan. I have to
tell you the only other time that I saw crowds around televisions
in the airport like Sunday was the premiere week of "Who Wants
to be a Millionaire". For those of you looking for a video
game style war this must be disappointing. Here is a question
what
do you do if you have an owner that was sent to war? Surely you
don't let the team sit idle. That doesn't seem right nor does it
seem right to let some idiot run the team. What I would do
if
you care
is let the commissioner run the team until he/she
returns or rotate who turns in the line-up each week with veto power
if someone is obviously dicking the guy.
How do you like your stat service? If you went with TQ Stats I am
betting that you are loving it. I have to tell that despite the
amateurish graphics on the home page and the less the eye appealing
buttons the service itself is fantastic and I would really recommend
it for any fantasy league that you are considering. Take a look
by clicking on any of the links below.
Made any trades yet? Now is the time to pull the trigger if you
can. Even though the season feels wrong because of the schedule
changes trends are starting to appear
.Dallas, Washington,
and Seattle are really bad with only Seattle having the slimmest
chance of being decent. I bet those of you that jumped on the Hasselbeck
bandwagon are getting splinters trying to get off (the wagon that
is).
How many leagues had owners that drafted Marty Booker, Willie Jackson,
Shaun Alexander, Vinny Testaverde, or Curtis Conway? I'd venture
to say very few. How many drafted Eddie George, Michael Bennett,
Wayne Chrebet, or Germane Crowell? If I had my guess
Marty
Booker or Curtis Conway will outscore Chrebet and Crowell combined.
Here is the list of 15 players I wish I had for now till the league
playoffs:
- David Boston
- Marty Booker
- Marcus Robinson
- Lavernues Coles
- Willie Jackson
- Travis Henry
- James Jackson
- Eddie George
- Correll Buckhalter
- Ladanian Tomlison
- Jake Plummer
- Jay Fiedler
- Brett Favre
- Jim Miller
- Doug Flutie
Hope you enjoyed it. I will be back a little more regularly starting
next week. Until then, good luck and God Bless.
What better way to start Sunday morning than watching Chris Berman
and Shannon Sharpe while eating warm, fresh Blueberry Muffins.

Here is this weeks recipe...
B L U E B E R R Y M
U F F I N S |
Est.
preparation time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Servings: 12 regular size muffins
|
» |
3 cups flour |
» |
3 cups blueberries fresh; picked
over, washed and dried |
» |
2 tablespoons cornstarch |
» |
1/4 cup butter, unsalted |
» |
1/4 cup Crisco |
» |
1 1/2cups sugar |
» |
4 eggs |
» |
2 tablespoons baking
powder |
» |
1 tsp. baking soda |
» |
1 teaspoon salt |
» |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
» |
3/4 cup cold milk |
» |
about 12 teaspoons
sugar to top the muffins |
» |
1/4 cup butter melted |
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Butter and flour the muffin tins, line with paper cups.
Cream the butter, shortening and sugar until light and
fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time and beat well. Don't
forget to scrape the bottom of the mixing bowl. Toss
the blueberries with 1/4 cup of the flour. Add the vanilla,
then add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk
then fold in the melted butter. Add the floured blueberries
and any remaining flour and fold in. Scoop into the
muffin tins so that tops are mounded and sprinkle each
with 1 teaspoon of sugar. Bake at 375° for 25 or 30
minutes in the center of the oven. Cool for 5 or 10
minutes and remove from the tins. For richer and more
delicious muffins, brush with melted butter when they
come out of the oven. |
