I've been "stewing" for several weeks while trying to determine
my draft strategy. I have found recently that many of my cohorts
are spending their time reading my articles trying to glean information
about what I might do. This week I am baring my soul and unleashing
my wish list… sleepers…. players I know that I can draft. I know
I'll have a realistic chance at these players. It's easy to list
players like Edgerrin James, anyone can do that. I am going to get
down to brass tacks and list the players on my personal draft list.
I am going to make it easy for everyone involved by listing my favorites
by position.
Now granted, this list is going to be a bit weird. There are going
to be a lot of big name guys not listed that your going to miss
but I pick towards the end so I am going to immediately knock out
the top 10 players and get right down to it.
Akili Smith - Akili
will have a banner year this season. Playing in front of the home
crowd in a brand spanking new stadium with Corey Dillon running
and Peter Warrick and Ron Dugans catching the ball… I really hope
that I can draft him.
Donovan McNabb - The secret to this pick is that no one wants
the players from a bad team. Well fine then… let me have this burgeoning
offensive phenom. Everyone knows about Duce Staley but who knows
much about Torrance Small or Charles Johnson? McNabb will be a pleasant
surprise as my back-up quarterback this season.
Kerry Collins - Collins is sober again. That's a bonus, No
more throwing to pink elephant, unless you count Pete Mitchell at
last years Halloween costume party. Collins will be supported by
a quality running back (if the Ron Dayne marijuana rumors I keep
hearing out of Wisconsin area aren't true). Having a good group
of receivers also helps.
Sedrick Irvin - Who amongst us thinks that James Stewart
left his injury problems on the Florida side of the state border
when he went North? Not I. Irvin got a limited chance last year
and wasn't extremely impressive. However, from what I have read,
he improved his pass catching ability over the winter and will be
a viable back-up. Nice to have if you also own Stewart.
Moe Williams - I know your saying "who?" but listen up. Leroy
Hoard is gone in Minnesota and Robert Smith is beautiful, like a
china doll, and just as fragile. Someone has to carry the ball…
why not this former University of Kentucky Wildcat.
Kimble Anders - Anders was doing an alright job last year
before ripping an Achilles. He is still the back-up behind Mike
Cloud but who thinks it will stay that way in Kansas City? They
haven't stuck with one running back in a season since Christian
Okoye!
Charles Johnson - If you are going to mention McNabb you
must mention the guy that will catch most of his passes. It looks
good to me… and you will get him late in most drafts.
Wayne Chrebet - He may not officially be a sleeper but he
is often around late in a draft and I think you will be the benefit
of that. Someone's gotta catch the ball.
Joe Horn - The "horny" (cheap joke I know) one will catch
many of Blake passes this year and take many of those to the house.
KC didn't want to lose him but they didn't work too hard to make
room for him either.
Bobby Collins - A good tight end to get especially if Remiersma
goes down. Collins had a field day in inter-conference games last
season and could be a secret weapon this season… if you need a "flyer"
at tight end you might try this one.
Marcus Pollard - Skip Ken Dilger and go straight for Pollard.
Pollard is technically the back-up but he sees a lot of action near
the goal line when the Colts decide to pass.
Peter Warrick - He has skills like crazy and I think he will
be unstoppable.
Sylvester Morris - Grbac is fancy as KC's QB but Morris will
be an easy target so I expect to see a lot of balls go his way.
Ron Dayne - The big'un will have a good season but probably
not as fantastic as many would have you to believe.
R. Jay Soward - You just know with Jacksonville's luck that
Soward will be starting before the year is over.
Bubba Franks - Everyone else on the team is injured so he
has to play!
Travis Prentice - I think he starts before week 3… maybe
not
Here is this week's recipe… good luck on your draft this weekend.
