This week was a perfect example that anything can happen on "Any
Given Sunday". The Davids smote many of the Goliaths and it all
made for good football. Its good to see Marshall and Ahman Green
back on the field, but Warner going down is definitely a shock to
the fantasy world. I put up another average week, but then again
it is very tough to do much better with all of the surprises in
football thus far. Here is this week's recap:
Best
QB Aaron Brooks vs. Detroit
(27/48, 269 yards 2 TD, 2 INT, 4 rushes, 49 yards)
Even in a losing cause his fantasy numbers were a definite welcome
to his owners. Unfortunately the receiving corps looks very banged
up now.
QB Jay Fiedler vs. Kansas City
(29/45, 310 yards, 1 TD, 4 INT, 3 rushes, 15 yards, 1 TD)
Four interceptions is nothing nice to look at, but 300 plus yards
and a score in the air and on the ground do a nice job of evening
out his fantasy performance.
RB Fred Taylor vs. New York Jets
(21 rushes, 142 yards, 1 TD, 3 catches, 95 yards)
If it weren't for Stacey Mack his numbers would have been on par
with Shaun Alexander this weekend. All said, he is a top 3 back
in the league as long as he is healthy.
RB Anthony Thomas vs. Buffalo
(23 rushes, 48 yards)
What had been a team giving up a ton of yardage, turned things
around this week by containing both the run and the pass and allowing
less than 250 net yards.
WR Kevin Johnson vs. Pittsburgh
(3 catches, 23 yards)
The Steelers made a miraculous change to their secondary and shut
down the Cleveland passing game, leaving KJ with a real unimpressive
day.
WR Oronde Gadsden vs. Kansas City
(4 catches, 69 yards)
It worked, I chose another Miami receiver and Chambers goes for
over 100 yards, good deal. Gadsden looked good as well in this
shootout of a game.
TE Ernie Conwell vs. Dallas
(2 catches, 33 yards)
Nice yardage totals for him, yet this team is on the verge of
kissing their season goodbye.
TE Frank Wycheck vs. Oakland
(4 catches, 32 yards)
Continued his catch streak, but it would have been nice if he
had gotten into the end zone.
Average
QB Tim Couch vs. Pittsburgh
(16/29, 144 yards, 2 INT)
Not the kind of performance you really want to talk about. Luckily
for him, the running and kicking game kept the team in the game.
QB Trent Dilfer vs. Minnesota
(13/28, 222 yards, 1 TD)
Given that Alexander ran for nearly 140 yards and scored 5 TD's,
this isn't a bad outing. No picks, decent yardage and a score.
RB Michael Pittman vs. Cincinnati
(19 rushes, 54 yards, 5 catches, 27 yards)
He still has value as long as he continues getting yards from
both running and receiving, yet he needs to get in the end zone.
RB Michael Bennett vs. Seattle
(15 rushes, 91 yards, 4 catches, 44 yards)
This was another solid fantasy performance for Bennett, who may
be showing some signs. He needs to put up consecutive weeks of
good yardage to make some believers.
WR Marty Booker vs. Buffalo
(4 catches, 82 yards)
Another day at the office for Booker who continues to pile on
the yardage week after week.
WR Tim Brown vs. Tennessee
(6 catches, 90 yards, 1 TD)
I contemplated putting Rice in which would have made me look studly
, but his numbers were impressive regardless.
TE Mikhael Ricks vs. New Orleans
(1 catch, 34 yards)
At least he made his one catch worth a little.
TE Anthony Becht vs. Jacksonville
(2 catches, 25 yards)
This team has lots of problems, but hopefully Pennington can turn
them around.
Worst
QB Brian Griese vs. Baltimore
(35/53, 328 yards, 1 TD 3 INT, 2 rushes, 4 yards, 1 TD)
My Monday night prediction came true, but his numbers were pretty
good since they were behind big, early.
QB Tom Brady vs. San Diego
(36/53, 353 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT)
This team is just airing it out and Brady owners should love every
minute of it.
RB Eddie George vs. Oakland
(11 rushes, 26 yards, 1 TD)
Take away his score and it is another sub-par performance for
what was likely a 1st round pick in most drafts.
RB Corey Dillon vs. Tampa Bay
(21 rushes 59 yards)
It was no rocket science, realizing he would have trouble here..
WR Curtis Conway vs. New England
(3 catches, 69 yards, 1 TD)
On LT's day, he still managed to put up good numbers.
WR David Boston vs. New York Giants
(2 catches, 18 yards)
The Giants D shut him down big time, in what was another good
prediction. If I am gonna bash my poor ones, I may as well give
myself props when I hit one on the head.
TE Bubba Franks vs. Green Bay
(1/1 31 yards, 1 TD, 4 catches, 33 yards)
Time to bash a poor pick. Not only did he catch four passes, but
also he hit Driver for a 31 yard score and I played against both
guys, my luck.
TE Tony Gonzalez vs. Miami
(7 catches, 140 yards, 3 TD)
Another "What the Hell?" pick. It goes to show you that
the better the passing defense a team plays against, the better
the tight end does.
