The BAWM - Week 6 Recap
10/15/02

This was another average week, but then again this article is not as much based on the predictions as it is on the match-ups. There were some key injuries on both sides of the ball that we will have to track carefully in the upcoming weeks. Hopefully non of your guys were affected. Here is how it went:

Best

QB Daunte Culpepper vs. Detroit
(27/36, 295 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 6 rushes, 39 yards, 1 TD)
Now this was the reason why he was a first round fantasy football pick. He did a little of everything.

QB Drew Brees vs. Kansas City
(28/41, 319 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, 5 rushes, 27 yards)
Completely tore apart KC's defense on the last drive to complete an impressive performance.

RB Garrison Hearst vs. Seattle
(10 rushes, 41 yards, 3 catches, 33 yards)
The runs were spread around and even Garcia ran seven times. This did not bode well for either back in this game.

RB Deuce McAllister vs. Washington
(29 rushes, 121 yards)
He didn't score, but he continues to pile on the yardage. This was his fourth 100 yard game and the second in a row.

WR Jimmy Smith vs. Tennessee
(4 catches, 49 yards)
Believe it or not he accounted for more than half of the teams receiving yardage.

WR Cutis Conway vs. Kansas City
(8 catches, 129 yards, 1 rush, 11 yards)
Was again the main target in the offence even though he didn't catch a TD pass. Now that he runs it in, he is even more valuable. Scored his second TD on the ground. He did lose two fumbles.

TE Kyle Brady vs. Tennessee
(Nothing)
When 8 passes were completed and only 13 were attempted, you know there is a problem.

TE Wesley Walls vs. Dallas
(Nothing)
He played, but it just goes to show you how tough it is to predict a TE's contribution.

Average

QB Joey Harrington vs. Minnesota
(25/41, 309 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT)
Playing the rookie worked well for his owners, but remember he faced the Vikes. He got nice yardage and two scores as more than you can ask for.

QB Mark Brunell vs. Tennessee
(3/6, 31 yards)
He was injured early with a concussion, yet his successor didn't fair much better.

RB Antowain Smith vs. Green Bay
(13 rushes, 75 yards, 2 catches 14 yards)
Nice yardage totals considering the amount of touches. The team was in catch-up mode after the half time.

RB James Stewart vs. Minnesota
(10 rushes, 42 yards, 2 catches, 11 yards)
A very unimpressive outing in terms of yardage but he did average over 4 yards per carry. Unfortunately he only had 10 carries and the team only 17.

WR Torry Holt vs. Oakland
(4 catches, 80 yards, 1 TD)
It's about time they showed up. Holt, Bruce and Faulk each contributed a score this week.

WR Rod Gardner vs. New Orleans
(4 catches, 40 yards)
Not what you want from the guy who is supposed to be #1 on the team. Especially when the team throws for over 300 yards.

TE Mikhael Ricks vs. New Orleans
(3 catches, 79 yards, 1 TD)
He went out with an injury but not before putting up very impressive numbers.

TE Frank Wycheck vs. Jacksonville
(3 catches, 31 yards)
Consistent, but a score would have made his numbers even better.

Worst

QB Tim Couch vs. Tampa Bay
(20/40, 151 yards, 1 INT)
I think you could classify this as a complete shut down.

QB Jeff Garcia vs. Seattle
(16/29, 202 yards, 2 TD, 7 rushes for 48 yards)
He was very efficient, but these numbers are far from stellar. His ability to run increases his value greatly.

RB Priest Holmes vs. San Diego
(23 rushes, 63 yards, 1 TD, 7 catches, 96 yards.)
Damn is he good. The charges did an adequate job of stopping him on the run but he just does to much.

RB Ricky Williams vs. Denver
(20 rushes, 49 yards, 2 TD, 4 catches, 30 yards)
Not Ricky-like numbers but he did score twice. He is a stud.

WR Donald Driver vs. New England
(3 catches, 43 yards)
These were average numbers as Favre spread the ball around.

WR Amani Toomer vs. Atlanta
(2 catches, 20 yards)
The loss of Shockey really tightened the field for him and the rest of the team.

TE Alge Crumpler vs. New York Giants
(2 catches, 39 yards)
He faired well in Vick's absence, but was never looked at near the end zone.

TE Itula Mili vs. San Francisco
(2 catches, 16 yards)
These are the numbers that I had expected for him this week.
