| Kiko Alonso on roster bubble? LB not a lock to make Dolphins final cut By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Aug 20 2019, 8:12 am
| Former Canadian Football League (CFL) linebacker Sam Eguavoen, who played his college football for the Texas Tech Red Raiders from 2011 to 2014, has been emerging as a possible replacement for Kiko Alonso, who is not a lock to make the final roster. Releasing Alonso would carry $8.2 million in dead money and just a $25,000 cap savings but would save Miami $4 million in cash. Eguavoen's emergence and Jerome Baker's evolution - and the fact Miami is expected to play three linebackers less than half the time - have left both Alonso and Raekwon McMillan in a tenuous position. McMillan obviously is not going to be released, but his playing time likely will be impacted. Alonso and McMillan remained out Monday with undisclosed injuries. (Miami Herald)
FFToday's Take: On every NFL team, there's usually a handful of accomplished veteran players at risk of being purged as the calendar trudges toward NFL cut-down day Aug. 31. The Dolphins are even more inclined to move on from veterans, focusing on investing in their youth and retaining promising talent. It would be a little shocking to see Alonso dropped, but I'd be avoiding him in IDP drafts for now.
