Alex Smith announces retirement
Former Washington, Chiefs, 49ers QB calls it a career
By: Mike Krueger | Apr 19 2021, 12:25 pm

Washington Redskins
Quarterback Alex Smith announced his retirement on Monday in a video posted to Instagram. Smith, 36, won the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award in 2020 after returning from a catastrophic leg injury to start six games for the Washington Football Team. Smith played 14 seasons over 16 years in the NFL for the 49ers, Chiefs and Washington after San Francisco drafted him No. 1 in the 2005 NFL Draft out of Utah. (The Athletic)

FFToday's Take: Smith's remarkable return from his leg injury will be a significant part of his NFL legacy. His best fantasy season came with the Chiefs in 2017 when he posted a 4042-26-5 passing line with 355 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD, finishing as the QB4 in fantasy points per game.
