Irv Smith likely out for the season, knee surgery 4-5 month recovery timetable By: Mike Krueger | Sep 1 2021, 11:44 am
Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. underwent surgery to repair his meniscus Wednesday morning and is likely to miss the season based on the 4-5 month recovery timetable, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

FFToday's Take:Smith had some upside value in fantasy drafts this Summer after the departure of Kyle Rudolph, but can now be crossed off your cheatsheet. The Vikings worked a trade with the Jets yesterday to acquire the under-achieving Chris Herndon who needed a change of scenery. Even with Tyler Conklin (hamstring) likely to see a bump in targets, fantasy owners can avoid the Vikings TE position for now.
