Christian McCaffrey departs early in Week 3
Strained hamstring
By: Doug Orth | Sep 24 2021, 1:00 am

Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey left Thursday night's game against the Texans with a strained hamstring. HC Matt Rhule said the team doesn't know the severity of McCaffrey's injury. The star running back will undergo additional tests. Quarterback Sam Darnold said he talked to McCaffrey after the game and described him as "sad." Darnold also had a message for McCaffrey, believing he'll be back this season. "Just that I'm thinking of him and to take his time," he said. "We'll be all right without him. Obviously, we want him back. But I want him to take his time and make sure he's good for the end of the season." (ESPN - David Newton)

FFToday's Take: This report makes it sound as if McCaffrey will need more than a three-week stint on injured reserve. Fantasy managers should expect at least that much as soft-tissue injuries often require multiple-week absences. Chuba Hubbard did a fine job filling in for CMC against the Texans and should be considered a strong RB2 option for however long McCaffrey is out. Royce Freeman will see some work as well, but probably not enough for fantasy purposes.
