Once, a boy looked through the scratchy medium of an old black and white 19-inch TV screen. His young mind focused solely on the drama as a southern team struggled in an important game under terrible conditions. Pardon me while I put on my colors.

I have been a Wowboy fan ever since I can remember football. I wish to lead the faithful to their pews for the service is about to start. Sadly, the Wowboys are suffering from a deadly infestation. Like beetle grub that works the bark and rot the trunk, the Wowboys have undergone some form of metamorphosis. Life is being drained by some malignant presence. The patient appears to be terminal. My colors used to be white, metallic and blue.

Unfortunately the problem is a New Millennium version of Al Davis has taken hold of my favorite team. Within the past few weeks we have learned the truth about who makes all football decisions. Public conformation in the media just reaffirms the well-known secret. The attraction and magnetism of the cult of personality is as seductive as the siren’s song. If JJ wants to coach the team so much, then take the reigns and end the masquerade. Work this obsession through to completion then let the team live again. Reports around the League mention the unusual structure the Wowboys now assume. Reports this week state that the puppet in charge must clear by Tuesday any reservations to swapping personnel. Questions of authority, and unfamiliarity in structure will discourage some of the potential talent required to create a War Machine like the mid-90’s Wowboys and the current Lambs Juggernaut.

Currently, the Wowboys are experiencing a curse at wide out. They can’t trade for healthy players. Giving up two first round picks would not have been necessary if SOMEONE had made the right decision with two obscure guys called Jimmy Smith and Patrick Jeffers. We could have gotten the quality young backup to ES this season if the Wowboys had made the same selection the Tealarks did with that sacrificial pick. Teal gets another goodie next year that looks to be at least a top tenner. You can see the curse at work.

Another curse is upon LL. He has loafed through how many NFL seasons? At least one and a half years were wasted in preventable pursuits. When focused LL could be a brutal force to deal with. Finding the ON switch has been difficult at best these past few years. On a cable sports talking head show, great credit was given to JR of the Dykings and WS on the Yucks. LL should have been mentioned with that group. No chance now as the curse strikes.

The mob howls for the head of the quarterback TA. I remember all the plays made the hits taken and the pain TA and ES accepted. It makes me wonder how much strength it takes to keep faith in your fellow humans. The mob calls TA done. I recall when ES, the greatest Wowboy who ever lived, had a couple of down years. ES was written off by the mob. They were wrong then. I hope they are also wrong now.

Too much money wasted on frauds and sick ward occupants. All teams make mistakes. It seems an unusually large number of bad decisions have occurred since the infestation has occurred. To my eyes, a pretender keeps pretenders while good prospects are either passed on or let walk away. Valuable draft picks are tossed to the curb in efforts to correct past mistakes. A ghastly neon image drones on the TV about some fool named We making decisions. Meanwhile TA and ES soldier on under the taunts and fickle attentions of the mob. It is a sad exit for two of my heroes. Come, sit with me and share a glass of wine for what was, a toast to the history and mystique that may never be duplicated again. Megalomania and the unfair ravages of the capitalist system have stolen the heart right out of me. My colors now are black.
