Imprisoned in the NFL's version of Siberia, Stafford cobbled together some impressive seasons with the Lions on teams that never won a playoff game during his 12 years in Motown. In what was doubtless a tough scene for the "wins are a quarterback stat" crowd, Stafford helped guide the Rams to a Super Bowl championship in his first season in LA, quieting all the nonsensical talk that he wasn't clutch or talented enough to win come January.
Along the way the veteran formed a special relationship with Cooper Kupp, rivaling anything he and Calvin Johnson did during their time together. That combination helped Stafford to the second-best statistical showing of his career as he passed for 4,886 yards and 41 touchdowns; his 17 interceptions did tie then-rookie Trevor Lawrence for most in the NFL, but remember he was playing in Sean McVay's system for the first time and then also had to transition from Robert Woods, who blew out his knee, to Odell Beckham Jr. midway through the season.
Entering his second season in the McVay offense could be a boon for Stafford -- look at the leap Aaron Rodgers made under Matt LaFleur's similar attack in Year 2 -- though it's debatable if it'll be nearly as pass happy if Cam Akers can stay healthy in 2022. At 34, the former Bulldog should have some good years left. The problem with Stafford for fantasy owners, though, is that his modest running ability has dwindled to almost nothing (he ran for 43 yards and 0 TDs last year). Like Tom Brady, all of Stafford's fantasy value comes from his arm, leaving him along that QB1/QB2 borderline.

Sean McVay intends to stick with Rams as head coach Under contract through 2026 By: Mike Krueger | Fri Jan 13, 3:28 pm

| | #Rams coach Sean McVay intends to return as the team’s coach after taking a few days to consider his future, per me and
@MikeGarafolo. He is sorting through potential staff changes for 2023. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: After a brief period to considering ditching the Rams, it sounds like McVay will be back in LA and try to revive a team that had a brutal 2022 season and seems to be in transition. Offensive coordinator Liam Coen has left for Kentucky. QB Matthew Stafford (back) and Cooper Kupp will be closely watched this off-season as they recover from injury.

| Baker Mayfield picked up by LA Rams Waived by Carolina on Monday By: Doug Orth | Tue Dec 6, 9:30 pm

| | Former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield was claimed on waivers today by the Los Angeles Rams, per league sources. The Rams now inherit the remaining $1.35 million on Mayfield’s contract. Mayfield is expected to fly to LA by tonight and could play Thursday night vs. the Raiders. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)
FFToday's Take: While Mayfield could technically play Thursday, it is extremely unlikely he will do so. There is a much better chance he gets the nod at Green Bay in Week 15 if he can learn enough of the playbook. The move as a whole is an interesting one for the Rams, as Mayfield could be a reclamation project, a long-term backup to Matthew Stafford or a bridge quarterback if Stafford's neck injury ends up being one that threatens his career.

| John Wolford will start at QB for the Rams Bryce Perkins will be available as well By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 2, 2:15 pm

| | John Wolford will start Sunday, per Sean McVay, and Bryce Perkins will be available as well. Sounds like Rams could use both. (Jourdan Rodrigue on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: A switch at quarterback isn't going to help the Rams much as they begin playing out the string of a lost season. Matthew Stafford has been ruled out. This team is off limits unless you want to take a stab at running back Kyren Williams.

| Allen Robinson not expected to play Rams dealing with a rash of injuries By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 27, 7:00 am

| | #Rams WR Allen Robinson, dealing with a foot injury, is not likely to play today vs. the #Chiefs, source said. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: As if things couldn't get any worse for the Rams. Already down Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford, expect Van Jefferson and Ben Skowronek to be the top targets for Bryce Perkins against the Chiefs. These two should only be considered if you are desperate at the position.

| Colt McCoy and John Wolford to start for Cardinals and Rams? Both backup QBs could start in Week 10 By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 13, 7:00 am

| | Colt McCoy and John Wolford very well could end up squaring off Sunday in a battle of backup QBs thrust into starting roles. But before that becomes official, the Cardinals and Rams would like to give their starters a final chance to see if they can play. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Another late-afternoon game with injury concerns. Both Kyler Murray (hamstring) and Matthew Stafford (concussion) are gametime decisions that are probably on the wrong side of questionable. Stafford wasn't placed in the concussion protocol until Tuesday making it difficult for him to get cleared in time for today's game.

| Matthew Stafford limited Friday, Questionable Rams QB in concussion protocol By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 11, 2:30 pm

| | Rams’ HC Sean McVay told reporters today that Matthew Stafford is questionable for Sunday vs. the Cardinals, but his QB is “making good progress.” (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Stafford was limited on Friday after being into the concussion protocol this week. Given the nature of the protocol, it's going to be difficult for him to get cleared in time, meaning it's likely we see John Wolford get the start at quarterback. But, we likely won't know for sure until Sunday.
