2020 Outlook
Depth Chart
Rob Gronkowski retired after the 2018 season, after the worst season of his career statistically. He played in 13 games and only received 72 targets, putting up 47 receptions for 682 yards and 3 touchdowns. Is that who Rob Gronkowski is now, or was that an aberration?

During his heyday from 2011 through 2015, he scored 55 touchdowns in five seasons, and put up over 1,000 yards in three of those seasons. In the other two, he only played in 7 and 11 games. As recently as 2017, the season before his last, he received 105 targets and had 69 receptions for 1,084 yards and 8 touchdowns. And that was in just 14 games. If he can return even to that level, he will be a top-five tight end for fantasy this season.

Whether he can do that remains to be seen. We just don't know if he has lost a step, and we just don't know to what degree his decline was related to his unhappiness in New England. If he is again having fun and motivated to succeed, it is entirely possible he has a return to statistical dominance.

So much of projecting Gronkowski is tied to his injury history. He has struggled with injuries throughout his career, but injuries are still difficult to predict with any certainty. An argument can be made that he is worth the risk as a 7th-round pick, which is where he currently sits in ADP (average draft position). However, with so many upside players available at tight end, some may decide he carries too much risk even at that draft slot. I prefer to take a pass on Gronk's ADP and look for better value options later in the draft.

Injury Bucs place O.J. Howard on IR
Achilles injury
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Oct 6, 11:00 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers have put tight end O.J. Howard on injured reserve with a ruptured Achilles tendon that will end his season, the team announced Tuesday. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: With Howard out of the mix that leaves Rob Gronkowski and Cameron Brate as their main options at tight. Outsisde of a Week 3 6-48 line on 7 targets, Gronkowski has been a fantasy afterthought. He should see an increased passing game role along with Brate.

Injury Mike Evans listed as Doubtful
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 11, 4:00 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is listed as doubtful for Sunday's season opener against the New Orleans Saints because of a hamstring injury. Evans was listed as a limited participant in practice Friday after not participating at all on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: The Bucs will be without one their key weapons in a marquee matchup against the Saints. Arians is classifying him as a gametime decision but players listed as Doubtful very rarely make it on the field for gameday. Justin Watson and Scotty Miller will pickup the slack. Expect to see Rob Gronkowski and Chris Godwin targeted heavily on Sunday.

Injury Mike Evans uncertain for Week 1
Soft tissue injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 9, 2:17 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans has an undisclosed soft tissue injury that could jeopardize his availability to play against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Coach Bruce Arians described Evans' status as day-to-day. "We'll take it all the way to the wire with him," Arians said of Evans. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: It sounds like Evans is going to be a true gametime decision making it difficult for fantasy owners to trust him in Week 1. If he sits, Chris Godwin and the trio of tight ends (Rob Gronkowski, O.J. Howard, Cameron Brate) could all be standout plays. Justin Watson and Scotty Miller would likely fill in the gap at receiver left by Evans.
