2019 Outlook
Depth Chart
It feels like he's been around forever, but would it surprise you to hear that Doug Martin is only 30 years old? Yeah, he's only one year older than Mark Ingram and he's a whopping six years younger than Frank Gore. That's not to say that his best years are yet to come, but perhaps Martin isn't quite as close to retirement as we might've believed.

Even if he is in the league for a few more years, though, Martin's effectiveness makes him a tough player to trust for fantasy purposes. He barely finished as a top-50 back in fantasy points per game in 2018 as he was stuck on the depth chart behind Marshawn Lynch for most of the season. He did, however, eclipse 100 rushing yards in each of Oakland's final two games, with 21 carries in each of those contests.

Martin was practically a non-factor prior to the Raiders' Week 7 bye, then saw nine or more carries in each game to finish the season, averaging 14.5 carries per game over that span, but saw more than two targets just twice.

Martin seems to be a "Gruden-like" player, but the team did invest a first round pick in rookie Josh Jacobs, so don't expect Martin to be a significant fantasy contributor unless Jacobs goes down. Sure, Martin will probably see between five to ten touches per game, depending on Jacobs' health, but his main value is in the fact that the team does not have another proven runner on the roster. If Jacobs were to go down with injury, look for Martin to step up and contribute a few fantasy relevant games just due to high usage in this stone age-like Raiders offense.

Limited touches for Jalen Richard in 2019?
Likely to split backup reps with Doug Martin
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jul 18, 7:40 pm

Oakland Raiders
Jon Gruden said Jalen Richard reminds the coach of Charlie Garner and is deserving of a bigger role. And then he drafts Josh Jacobs in the first round to be a three-down back. Richard will probably split backup carries with Doug Martin and will lose a good chunk of those 68 catches last year to Jacobs. (The Athletic - Vic Tafur)

FFToday's Take: Richard was one of the fantasy's biggest surprises in 2018 despite scoring only one touchdown, as he caught 68 of his 81 targets on a team that played from behind a ton. Unfortunately for him, Jacobs profiles as a solid early-down back who is quite gifted in the passing game. It wouldn't be surprising if Richard see his target cut almost in half this season, barring a multi-week injury to Jacobs.
