While most of the offseason speculation about the Broncos acquiring a quarterback revolved around Aaron Rodgers, Denver finally found a partner in the Seattle Seahawks, dealing three players and five draft picks for nine-time Pro Bowl selection Russell Wilson. Although Wilson is coming off a down year, which included missing games due to injury for the first time in his career, he's light years ahead of what has been seen in Mile High since the retirement of Peyton Manning following the 2015 season.
How new head coach Nathaniel Hackett chooses to feature Wilson will be interesting, as for all his talent the veteran quarterback was often utilized as a glorified game manager during his Seattle run where Pete Carroll has long prioritized defense and controlling the clock with the run. The lone exception to this was the short-lived "Let Russ cook" phase, which came to an end when Wilson threw seven INTs over a four-game stretch in 2020 where the Seahawks went 1-3.
Hackett, who spent the last three years working with Rodgers as Green Bay's offensive coordinator, is likely to be more aggressive than Carroll was, but the Packers have quietly developed a solid running game so expect a fairly balanced approach. Plus, for as much potential as the Broncos have at their skill positions, there's no singular talent on par with DK Metcalf or anyone as proven as Tyler Lockett.
Entering his age-34 season, Wilson is a fringe top-10 fantasy quarterback with the potential to slide up into the top five and possibly down into QB2 range, depending on how much he's asked to do both as a runner and passer in an offense that's high on upside but light on proven commodities.

Denver settles on Sean Payton as HC Saints expected to get first- and second-round pick in return By: Doug Orth | Tue Jan 31, 11:50 pm

| | Breaking: Saints and Broncos are finalizing compensation in return for Super Bowl-winning HC Sean Payton, sources tell ESPN. This clears the way for Payton to sign with the Broncos to become Denver’s next head coach.
And so Payton is expected to head to Denver as its next HC. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)
FFToday's Take: The first-rounder is a 2023 pick the Broncos received from Miami in the Bradley Chubb trade. The second-rounder is a 2024 selection. The Broncos are also receiving a 2024 third-rounder from the Saints. The acquisition of Payton is a huge boost to the Broncos as a whole and particularly the offense. Payton worked wonderfully for many years with Drew Brees and could have a similar impact on Russell Wilson as moves into the later stages of his career. Fantasy managers should also be thrilled about what this trade means for Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and Greg Dulcich.

| Broncos fire HC Nathaniel Hackett Third coach to be fired this season By: Mike Krueger | Mon Dec 26, 1:00 pm

| | The Broncos announced they have fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett. Broncos owner and CEO Greg Penner will lead the coaching search along with the ownership group and GM George Paton. (Jeff Howe on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Hackett becomes the third head coach to be fired this season, joining Matt Rhule (CAR) and Frank Reich (IND) in the unemployment line. The Broncos have been extremely disappointing on offense this season after the signing of Russell Wilson and Hackett has made questionable decisions in his first year as a HC. The Broncos were embarrassed by the Rams yesterday to the tune of 51-14 which was likely the final nail in the coffin for Hackett.

| Russell Wilson out, Brett Rypien to start for DEN Brett Rypien vs. Colt McCoy By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 16, 3:20 pm

| | Broncos ruled out Russell Wilson for Sunday’s game. And so it’s Brett Rypien vs. Colt McCoy. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: According to head coach Nathaniel Hackett, Wilson cleared concussion protocol but they decided to rest him this week and get him ready for Week 16 against the Rams. Brett Rypien will get the start at quarterback for the Broncos and have very little fantasy value. Wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Kendall have also been ruled out.

| Courtland Sutton not expected to play Week 14 Hamstring injury By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 7, 2:07 pm

| | On WR Courtland Sutton’s hamstring injury Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said today “it’s not looking good right now” for Sutton to play Sunday against the Chiefs. (Jeff Legwold on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Sutton played 43% of the snaps last week against the Ravens before leaving with a hamstring injury. Expect to see him on the Inactive list this week. Jerry Jeudy, Kendall Hinton and Brandon Johnson should be the top three receivers for Russell Wilson against the Chiefs.
