2022 Outlook
Depth Chart
Whatever happened when the Chargers relocated to Los Angeles did wonders for Allen's health. In the four years he spent in San Diego, the veteran missed 26 games. In five years since moving to LA, he's missed only three. It's no surprise then that over that five-year run, Allen has averaged 102 catches, 1,184 yards, and 6.4 TDs per season. It's that last number that keeps the 30-year-old out of the elite fantasy receiver discussion, however, as he's never been a prolific red-zone producer.

Even though he's not the designated big-play guy, Allen is the far steadier, more reliable option. He has great hands and is one of the NFL's elite route runners -- he has 60-plus first-down receptions in each of the last five years. Granted, a career yards per catch of 11.7 isn't awe inspiring, but he caught at least six passes in 11 of his 16 games, giving him a nice little bump in point-per-reception formats.

Allen is a borderline top-10 fantasy wideout, though he lacks the upside of some of the younger names in that same range such as Tee Higgins, A.J. Brown, or Terry McLaurin. So, you must decide if you prefer the higher floor/lower ceiling of Allen to some of those more volatile options.

Injury Justin Herbert remains a gametime decision
May take pain-killing injection
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Sep 25, 8:15 am

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is expected to make a decision during pregame warm-ups on Sunday about whether to take a pain-killing injection in his fractured rib cartilage to try and play against the Jacksonville Jaguars, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Herbert wants to play, a source told Schefter, but, there was growing skepticism about his status going into the weekend. The decision to play has bounced back and forth throughout the week, Schefter reports. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: This sounds like Herbert is truly a 50-50 call and puts fantasy owners in a bind considering the Chargers and Jaguars don't play until late-afternoon. Keenan Allen is in the same boat with his hamstring injury. He's listed as a gametime decision and can't be trusted even if he does play.

Injury Just Herbert, Keenan Allen listed as Questionable
Gametime decisions
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 23, 4:29 pm

WR Keenan Allen (hamstring), RT Trey Pipkins (ankle) and TE Donald Parham (hamstring) are questionable for Sunday along with Justin Herbert. CB J.C. Jackson (ankle) and C Corey Linsley (knee) are doubtful. Chase Daniel will start if Justin Herbert can’t go, Brandon Staley said. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The total on the Charges-Jaguars as dropped from LAC -7 earlier today to LAC -3.0 indicating Vegas doesn't think Herbert is going to play. They will put Herbert through a workout on Sunday before determining his status. Allen is also questionable to play after sustaining a hamstring injury in Week 1.

Injury Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen "day to day" per Staley
Herbert will participate in individual drills Wednesday
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 21, 3:49 pm

Justin Herbert is “day to day” per Brandon Staley. Herbert threw yesterday and did some “rotational” work. He will participate in individual drills today, according to Staley. WR Keenan Allen (hamstring), TE Donald Parham (hamstring), C Corey Linsley (knee) and RT Trey Pipkins (ankle/foot) are all “day to day” per Brandon Staley. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Herbert suffered a rib in Week 2 and it remains to be seen if he will play in Week 3 against the Jaguars. Allen's hamstring injury occurred in Week 1. We'll know more about all the Chargers' wounded later in the week.

Injury Keenan Allen ruled out for Week 2
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 14, 2:50 pm

WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) and TE Donald Parham (hamstring) are OUT for Thursday night vs. Chiefs. CB J.C. Jackson (ankle) is QUESTIONABLE. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Allen injured his hamstring Week 1 and wasn't likely to play this week against the Chiefs given the short turnaround in Week 2. Mike Williams, Josh Palmer and DeAndre Carter will be the top three wideouts for Justin Herbert in a potential shootout. The Chiefs will be without rookie cornerback Trent McDuffie (hamstring).

Injury Keenan Allen dealing with hamstring pull
Chargers play on short week against KC
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 12, 5:25 pm

Keenan Allen will have an MRI on his hamstring after being ruled out yesterday, source said. Given the quick turnaround, missing Thursday vs. the #Chiefs makes sense, but tests today will determine the full extent of the injury. (NFL Network - Ian Rapoport)

FFToday's Take: There is almost no chance that Allen will play on Thursday night. If that turns out to be the case, Josh Palmer figures to benefit the most from a fantasy perspective as he will likely start opposite Mike Williams. Managers in deeper leagues could take a flyer on DeAndre Carter, who tied Palmer for the most slot snaps in the opener. Gerald Everett could also factor into the offense a bit more as well.

Josh Palmer making waves
Second-year WR pushing for bigger role
By: Doug Orth | Tue Aug 23, 9:20 pm

Chargers are ecstatic with second-year WR Josh Palmer’s progress - so much so that we should expect an expanded role with more targets. Per a team source: “He’s got the complete route-tree and he’s hyper-competitive attacking balls. Major worker: One of the best players in camp.” (Jordan Schultz)

FFToday's Take: It was thought that Palmer was drafted last year to eventually replace Mike Williams, but he signed a big three-year deal this offseason. That apparently was not enough to stop the Tennessee product, who is a strong candidate for at least 70-80 targets despite playing alongside Keenan Allen and Williams after settling for 49 looks as a rookie. Palmer should be drafted as a WR5 with WR2/3 upside should Allen or Williams miss time.
