2022 Outlook
Depth Chart
Evans has made his living in the red zone, especially with Tom Brady at the helm the last two seasons, catching 27 total touchdowns and setting single season career marks in both 2020 and 2021. That's a positive, but truth be told, Evans' target share, receptions and yardage are all down slightly since Brady's arrival, and I'm not sure that's going to change in 2022. In fact, Evans might find the sledding even tougher than usual, especially early in the season.

Fellow WR Chris Godwin is not nearly ready to return from an ACL tear suffered in Week 15 and until free agent Russell Gage proves his ability to dictate coverage, defenses will be bracketing Evans and taking away the best part of his game. Evans will still win his share of contested balls for sure, and he will beat coverage, even double coverage from time to time. But until some of these other receivers show they can step up to the challenge, the defensive focus will limit his ceiling. He's a TD-reliant, low end WR1 who might be better as your No.2 if you can manage it, especially to start the season.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Chris Godwin Out, Gage misses practice Friday
Bucs dealing with multiple WR injuries
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 23, 4:12 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bucs WR Chris Godwin (hamstring) and DT Akiem Hicks (foot) are out. LT Donovan Smith (elbow) TE Cade Otton (personal reasons) is doubtful. WR Russell Gage (hamstring) did not practice Friday and is questionable. RB Leonard Fournette (hamstring) was limited and questionable. (Rick Stroud on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Godwin Out, Mike Evans suspended and Gage, Julio Jones and Breshad Perriman all listed as Questionable the Bucs are struggling for healthy quality receivers. Cole Beasley would have to be elevated from the practice squad on Saturday in order to play. Julio is shaping up to be a gametime decision and can't be trusted even if he does play. Perriman and Scotty Miller may get the most targets on Sunday.

Injury Julio Jones due back in Week 4
WR dealing with partially torn PCL
By: Doug Orth | Thu Sep 22, 8:10 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs will have Mike Evans back from suspension this week. Todd Bowles said he expects Julio Jones to return too. (ESPN - Jenna Laine)

FFToday's Take: The Buccaneers desperately need their receivers back after feeding a total of 34 targets to Russell Gage, Cameron Brate, Breshad Perriman, Jaelon Darden, Kyle Rudolph, Cole Beasley and Scotty Miller in Week 3. Tampa Bay faces the Chiefs in the Sunday night game in Week 4 against a defense that has given up at least 13 fantasy points to two receivers in two of three games. Assuming Jones practice at some point this week, he should be considered a solid WR3/flex option in most leagues.

Tampa Bay signs veteran WR Cole Beasley
Headed to the practice squad
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Sep 20, 7:44 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Confirmed Bucs are signing Bills WR Cole Beasley to their practice squad. Julio Jones and Chris Godwin are injured while Mike Evans is suspended. Another vet receiver for Tom Brady, who was upset at some dropped passes Sunday, not all by receivers. @MikeGarafolo reported first. (Rick Stroud on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It's interesting to note that Beasley will begin on the practice squad. The team can elevate him on gameday's without having to cut somebody right now. It's doubtful Beasley is going to make any kind of immediate fantasy impact but something to keep your eye on. Scotty Miller may be the odd man out here.

Mike Evans gets one-game suspension
Unnecessary roughness with Saints’ CB Marshon Lattimore
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Sep 19, 12:33 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NFL suspended Buccaneers’ WR Mike Evans one game for Sunday’s unnecessary roughness with Saints’ CB Marshon Lattimore. Evans was suspended one game for a previous fracas with Lattimore in 2017. (https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter)

FFToday's Take: Evans got into it with Lattimore yesterday during the Bucs-Saints game that resulted in both players being ejected. Tampa Bay is already dealing with multiple injured receivers including Chris Godwin (hamstring) and Julio Jones (knee). We should see a lot of Breshad Perriman and Russell Gage in Week 3 against the Packers.

Injury Mike Evans expected to play, Julio gametime decision
Knee injury for Julio Jones
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Sep 17, 11:41 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bucs WR Mike Evans, listed as questionable for Sunday due to a calf injury, is expected to play to play vs. the Saints, per source. Bucs don’t expect to know whether they will have WR Julio Jones, who is Q due to a knee injury, until they see how he feels during pre-game warmups. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Julio lasted one week before coming down with a nagging injury. He will test his knee in warm-ups to see if he can give it a go. In other Bucs injury news, Leonard Fournette (hamstring) and Russell Gage (hamstring) are both expected to play.

Injury Chris Godwin expected to miss some time, hamstring injury
Not a major injury
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Sep 12, 1:46 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
#Bucs WR Chris Godwin suffered a hamstring strain Sunday night and likely will miss some time, per source. There's optimism it's not a major injury, but Godwin could be sidelined a few weeks. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Godwin wore a non-contact jersey throughout training camp, got on the field Week 1 and now will seemingly miss a few weeks with a hamstring injury. Mike Evans, Julio Jones and Russell Gage will hold down the Bucs passing game until Godwin can return.

Injury Chris Godwin a gametime decision
Wearing a no-contact jersey on Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 9, 12:29 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Coach Todd Bowles said the decision on Chris Godwin will come right up until kickoff. (Jenna Laine on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Quite frankly, Godwin doesn't seem ready to play. He hasn't taken a hit in practice this pre-season. It would be a shock if he's isn't on the Inactive list on Sunday. Mike Evans, Russell Gage and Julio Jones should be the top three wideouts for Tom Brady against the Cowboys.

Injury Chris Godwin still not sure about Week 1
Completing recovery from a late-season ACL tear
By: Doug Orth | Tue Sep 6, 8:40 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Chris Godwin (knee) told In the Moment podcast on Tuesday, Sept. 6, that he does not "think any of us know yet (if he will play in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys). “I don’t think any of us know that yet. … I would imagine I have the final say. It’s going to come down to feel. Because I understand what I’m capable of doing on the field when healthy. But I also understand what I’m capable of pushing through. I would love to be there for the entire season, but I think what’s more important is being there for the second half of the season. Being there for what I missed last year," Godwin said. (Tampa Bay Times - Rick Stroud)

FFToday's Take: It certainly appears as if Godwin is leaning toward sitting Week 1. With the Buccaneers being loaded at receiver to begin the season (Mike Evans, Russell Gage and Julio Jones), it makes little sense for Godwin or the team to play if he is not completely ready. He reportedly shed his knee brace Monday, so he is undoubtedly close. Just don't expect vintage Godwin for at least a few weeks.
