2020 Outlook
Depth Chart
Just about everyone has been burned by Sammy Watkins for fantasy purposes and that has actually suppressed his fantasy cost enough that he might just be a value in drafts. Watkins showed that he still has some upside in 2019 when he absolutely destroyed the Jaguars for nine catches, 198 yards and three touchdowns in Week 1 after Tyreek Hill went out with a shoulder injury. Watkins was the WR1 in fantasy that week and the price to acquire him skyrocketed with Hill set to miss a few weeks with the injury. Those who opted to trade Watkins, however, made out like bandits as the veteran would fail to score another touchdown or reach even 70 receiving yards for the entire remainder of the regular season.

While it didn't help fantasy owners, there is some hope heading into 2020 that Watkins may still have some value in this potent Kansas City offense. His three game stretch in the playoffs was actually quite impressive as he caught 14 passes for 288 yards and a touchdown while adding a 14 yard rush on the ground that put him over a 100 total yard per game average. It's a small sample size and it doesn't mean that he's going to be successful in 2020 but Watkins does have a role in this offense. He led all Chiefs wide receivers in snaps played in 2019 and is the team's most well-rounded complement to Hill when it comes to two-WR sets.

He'll likely be frustrating to own, but the upside remains for Watkins to return to fantasy relevance here in 2020.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Sammy Watkins listed as Questionable
Full practice on Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Feb 5, 1:42 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
Sammy Watkins is listed as questionable for Sunday's game on Chiefs final injury report of the week. Eric Fisher and Willie Gay are out. Everyone else is good to go. (Adam Teicher on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Watkins was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday but did practice in full on Friday. Watkins said he is "optimistic" about playing Sunday but we'll have to wait an see. The last time he saw game action was Week 16. Demarcus Robinson has been removed from the COVID-19 list and will play. All are DFS punt plays for Super Bowl LV.

Injury Bell, Watkins, Antonio Brown all expected to play in SB LV
Injured players ready to return
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jan 26, 10:57 am

Kansas City Chiefs
Several injured players for the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to be healthy for Super Bowl LV. Chiefs running back Le'Veon Bell (knee) and wide receiver Sammy Watkins (calf), as well as the Bucs duo of wide receiver Antonio Brown (knee) and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (ankle), are all expected to be ready for Feb. 7, sources told ESPN's Dianna Russini. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Watkins has been battling a calf injury since Week 16 and missed the Conference Championship game against the Bills. AB suffered a knee injury in the Divisional game against the Saints but should be ready for the Super Bowl. Expect the Chiefs to roll with Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrel Williams at running back.

Injury Sammy Watkins a gametime decision
Chiefs not optimistic he will play
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Jan 24, 7:00 am

Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs likely will have running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire but be without Le'Veon Bell for today’s AFC Championship Game against the Buffalo Bills, per source. Additionally, the Chiefs will test WR Sammy Watkins pregame, but don’t sound optimistic he will play today. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Watkins has been battling a calf injury for several weeks now and it sounds like he's going to end up on the Inactive list along with Le'Veon Bell. That would make Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson viable cheap DFS options for the two-game slate. Expect CEH and Darrel Williams to handle the running back duties.

Injury CEH, Watkins, Bell listed as Questionable for Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes cleared from concussion protocol
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Jan 22, 3:28 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
Willie Gay is out for Sunday's game. Bashaud Breeland, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Rashad Fenton, Sammy Watkins, and Le'Veon Bell are questionable. (Kansas City Chiefs on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Patrick Mahomes has cleared concussion protocol. Expect LeVeon Bell to be inactive and CEH and Darrel Williams to handle the bulk of running back duties. Watkins should be active as well making him Mecole Hardmon and Demarcus Robinson DFS dart throws.

Injury Sammy Watkins missed practice Thursday
Calf injury
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Jan 14, 2:54 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (calf), LB Willie Gay (ankle), WR Sammy Watkins (calf) did not practice today for the #chiefs (James Palmer on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This could be a scheduled day off for Watkins but if not, it's difficult seeing him suiting up on Sunday against the Browns. Watkins last played in Week 16 and missed practice yesterday. It's likely Demarcus Robinson and perhaps Byron Pringle will pickup some extra snaps if Watkins sits.

Injury Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Tyreek on the practice field Wed.
Chiefs getting set for matchup with Browns
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jan 13, 12:55 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
In open portion of today’s practice (no pads), Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Tyreek Hill, Mike Remmers, Eric Fisher, Anthony Hitchens, Ben Niemann & Dorian O’Daniel we’re all on the practice fields. No Sammy Watkins, Willie Gay & Mitchell Schwartz. I didn’t see Rashad Fenton. (Nate Taylor on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: CEH was last seen doing the splits in an awkward fashion in Week 15 that caused him to injure his hip and ankle. It's a good sign for his availability that he was able to do some work today. The Browns gave up the 4th fewest PPR fantasy points to RBs during the regular season.

Injury Chiefs rule out Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins
JV-Team scheduled to play against Chargers
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Jan 1, 3:16 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs ruled out Tyreek Hill,, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Sammy Watkins, to go along with Patrick Mahomes, for Sunday’s game vs. the Chargers. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Chiefs will be rolling out the JV-team against the Chargers in the season finale. QB Chad Henne, RB Darrel Williams, RB Darwin Thompson, WR Demarcus Robinson, WR Mecole Hardman and WR Byron Pringle should be the main offensive contributors for Kansas City.
