2019 Outlook
Depth Chart
The Chiefs made the decision to move on from Kareem Hunt, which now leaves running back Damien Williams in line for some serious fantasy potential in 2019. Williams made a splash down the stretch in 2018, producing some huge fantasy games down the stretch that almost certainly secured many fantasy league championships. He came out of nowhere in the eyes of many fantasy owners but Williams is an athletically gifted player with elite speed and feature back size. He's simply never been given an opportunity to prove himself as a starting running back in the NFL.

There is some concern that the newly acquired Carlos Hyde will cut into Williams' touches, but the potential upside for a running back in this Kansas City offense makes Williams too tantalizing to pass on simply because we're worried about a veteran plodding running back like Hyde. Williams only started five games for the Chiefs, including in the playoffs, but he caught 24 passes in those contests. If he had played a 16-game season at that pace, he would've finished with 77 catches. That, in addition with his quality rushing ability, in an offense as high-powered as Kansas City's, could mean some seriously monster fantasy numbers this season.

Yes, there are concerns that Williams has never "done it before," but the running back position in the NFL is often a product of situation more than it is player ability. That could be the case with Williams. He may not be an elite-level player, but that certainly doesn't mean that he's incapable of producing elite-level fantasy production. Andy Reid offenses typically feature one back and it seems highly unlikely that it will be Hyde unless Williams goes down.

Williams' current ADP has him going in the middle-to-end of the second round in most leagues, which is a great value for a player who could potentially finish as a high-end RB1 and whose floor, if he remains healthy, should be no lower than a mid-level RB2.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury LeSean McCoy inactive for Chiefs
Veteran RB a healthy scratch for SNF
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Sun Dec 22, 7:59 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
LeSean McCoy is inactive for Sunday night's game vs. the Bears. McCoy hasn’t had more than 12 carries in a game this year, and he had six touches in last week’s game against the Broncos. That leaves the Chiefs with Damien Williams, Spencer Ware, and Darwin Thompson in the backfield tonight. (NBC)

FFToday's Take: Damien Williams will likely lead the committee and projects for RB2 value.

Injury Damien Williams cleared to play Week 16
Crowded mess in KC backfield
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 20, 3:30 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
RB Damien Williams (rib) has been cleared to play Sunday night against the Bears. He has no injury designation for the game on Chiefs' final injury report of the week, which means he's good to go. That's also true for WR Mecole Hardman, who turned up on injury report this week (Adam Teicher on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Williams back, the Chiefs will now have four running backs available to see touches including LeSean McCoy, Spencer Ware and Darwin Thompson. Given the uncertainty surrounding their workload, this is a situation to avoid for fantasy owners.

Injury Damien Williams expected to be inactive
Illness
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Dec 15, 7:00 am

Kansas City Chiefs
#Chiefs RB Damien Williams (rib, illness) is listed a questionable, but being downgraded to DNP on Friday was a bad sign. Source said he’s expected to be inactive. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Williams has missed the last two games with a rib injury but missed practice Friday due to an illness. If he sits, the Chiefs will go with LeSean McCoy, Spencer Ware and Darwin Thompson at running back. All of them are dart throws given the uncertainty surrounding their usage.

Injury Damien Williams has a chance play Week 14
Rib injury
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Dec 3, 7:25 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
On the Spencer Ware signing, my understanding is that Damien Williams has a chance to play Sunday at Patriots. So Ware at this point is more an emergency signing but Chiefs will see how the week works out for Williams. (Adam Teicher on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Damien injured his ribs in Week 11 and hasn't played since and with Darrel Williams suffering a knee injury in Week 13, the Chiefs are suddenly thin at running back. Free agent Spencer Ware has been signed and Darwin Thompson figures to get some work even if Damien plays against the Patriots. We'll have a better idea of the Chiefs RB situation after practice on Friday.

Injury Damien Williams misses practice Wednesday
Rib injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 27, 12:45 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
Tyreek Hill will practice today for the Chiefs. We’ll see later how much he does. But Damien Williams among those who won’t work today. (Adam Teicher on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Hill is expected to get in a full practice today, indicating his hamstring pull in Week 11 was minor. Williams is dealing with a rib injury and appears to be on the wrong side of questionable this week. LeSean McCoy and Darrel Williams should handle the bulk of running back duties against the Raiders.

Injury Damien Williams, Tyreek Hill injured on MNF
Chiefs dealing with injuries to offensive starters, bye week will help
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Nov 19, 11:00 am

Kansas City Chiefs
After losing wide receiver Tyreek Hill to a hamstring injury earlier in the game, the Chiefs have now lost running back Damien Williams to a rib injury and safety Jordan Lucas to a shoulder injury. The players were listed as questionable to return but didn't make it back in the game. (Chiefs Wire)

FFToday's Take: Wow. Williams started for the Chiefs but had just four carries for 7 yards and one catch for 6 yards on one target before leaving right before halftime. LeSean McCoy had a TD run and he and Darrel Williams while Damien is out. Luckily, they'll have a bye week now to rest up. McCoy is worth a speculative add in leagues where he's been dropped.

Damien Williams misses practice, personal reasons
Listed as questionable
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Nov 16, 2:00 pm

Kansas City Chiefs
RB Damien Williams missed the last two practices of the week for personal reasons but will play on Monday night against the Chargers. Williams is listed as questionable to play on Monday night on the week's final injury report, so there is some doubt about his availability. (Adam Teicher on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: We should get word at some point tomorrow if Williams makes the trip with the team to Mexico. Williams owners should have plan B in place in case he's not on the plane. If he sits, LeSean McCoy and Darrel Williams would likely split time Monday night against the Chargers.

LeSean McCoy inactive
Boost for Damien Williams
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 10, 11:30 am

Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs’ RB LeSean McCoy is inactive today. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With McCoy out, Damien Williams gets a boost in expected usage along with Darrell Williams in a reserve role. Damien is now in the RB2 territory discussion against the Titans.
