2020 Outlook
Depth Chart
A breakout player and league-winner at running back down the stretch in 2019, Raheem Mostert has seen his ADP rise substantially throughout the offseason as the 49ers did not make a major investment at the position and in fact shipped off 2019 committee-mate, Matt Breida, to the Dolphins.

The 49ers finished second in the NFL in run-to-pass ratio and were just one of two (Ravens) teams that actually ran the ball more than they passed in 2019. A number of hugely positive game scripts led to a dramatically run-heavy approach from the 49ers, which has many fantasy analysts believing that this is necessarily a team that will again run the ball at an extremely high rate. That may not be the case, however, as the 49ers may see fewer positive game scripts due to a slight regression on defense and potentially a less efficient passing game due to the injury to Deebo Samuel. A drop in run-to-pass ratio would mean fewer attempts, particularly late-game attempts, for the running game as a whole, which would subsequently negatively affect Mostert. That's especially important in a backfield that is likely to feature up to three or even four different running backs per game.

Mostert led the team in snaps at running back just once in the team's first 12 games, but finished as the snap leader in each of their final seven games, including the playoffs. It's difficult to assume that Jerick McKinnon will be healthy considering his injury history, but McKinnon is currently ready to get back to football work and should also see some snaps. Keep in mind that McKinnon was projected to be the 49ers' top running back heading into the 2018 season prior to suffering back-to-back season-ending injuries in the pre-season in both 2018 and 2019.

The other problem with Mostert is his lack of usage in the passing game. We've seen players make big improvements as a receiver out of the backfield in the past, but it's not all that common and it's difficult to believe that he's going to suddenly become a serious contributor in that category. Mostert was only targeted 22 times for 14 receptions in the 2019 regular season and he was targeted just three total times in the 49ers' three playoff games.

Mostert is going off the board as a low-end RB2 in most leagues so he does have some nice upside given the price, but the chances of him finishing as a truly elite fantasy RB in 2020 are slim.

Injury Raheem Mostert expected to land on IR
High-ankle sprain
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 19, 8:00 pm

Arizona Cardinals
49ers’ HC Kyle Shanahan said RB Raheem Mostert “most likely" will go on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: The Niners' backfield is a jumbled mess now and that doesn't even include Tevin Coleman, who is eligible to come off IR whenever his knee is right. Jerick McKinnon figures to benefit the most from Mostert's absence from a fantasy perspective, but Jeff Wilson (who missed Week 6 with a calf injury) and JaMycal Hasty could easily emerge as the lead back. Expect Hasty to get a long look after showing well versus the Rams following Mostert's injury.

Injury Raheem Mostert, Deebo Samuel expected to play
Knee injury for Mostert
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 11, 7:00 am

San Francisco
49ers’ RB Raheem Mostert (knee) and WR Deebo Samuel (illness), both listed as questionable for today’s game against the Dolphins, both “should be good (to play)”, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Mostert has missed the last two weeks with a knee injury. His return will cap the ceiling of Jerick McKinnon who saw 21 touches last week against the Eagles. We don't expect Mostert to see a full workload so McKinnon is probably the better fantasy play in Week 5.

Injury Jimmy Garoppolo will start in Week 5

FFToday's Take: Garoppolo (ankle) was limited in practice this week. He'll slide into his normal QB2 value in a decent matchup against the Dolphins. C.J. Beathard will be the No.2 quarterback.

Injury George Kittle back at practice, Garoppolo sits
Raheem Mostert also missed practice today
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 30, 3:40 pm

San Francisco
Shanahan said George Kittle will be “full go” in practice today. Kyle Shanahan says Jimmy Garoppolo will not practice today. (Matt Barrows on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It sounds like Nick Mullens is going to get another start for the 49ers. The addition of Kittle will help the passing attack against the Eagles who gave up 312 yards and 2 TDs to Joe Burrow last week. Raheem Mostert also missed practice today.

Injury George Kittle a gametime decision
Questionable with knee injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 25, 1:00 pm

San Francisco
Coach Kyle Shanahan, speaking Friday morning on KNBR's "Murph & Mac Show," said the All-Pro will be a game-time decision for the 49ers' matchup Sunday against the New York Giants. George Kittle likely is to be listed as "questionable" with his knee injury. (NBC BayArea)

FFToday's Take: The 49ers will be without quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and their two top running backs, Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman. Kittle has been limited in practice this week and the team has some concerns with the field conditions at MetLife Stadium. If Kittle sits, Jordan Reed would be viable TE2 play even on limited snaps.

Injury San Fran likely w/o top two RBs in Week 3
Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman hurt vs. Jets
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 21, 6:20 pm

San Francisco
49ers’ RB Tevin Coleman is expected to miss “multiple weeks” with the knee injury he suffered Sunday, per source. So 49ers are expected to be without Coleman and Raheem Mostert on Sunday at the Giants. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: Mostert reportedly suffered a sprained MCL that "should" keep him out for the next game against the Giants and maybe a bit longer. Undrafted rookie free agent JaMycal Hasty is expected to be elevated from the practice squad to join Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson as the three active backs in his absence. McKinnon would likely draw the start be the recommended fantasy play, but he may be kept under 15 touches given his injury history. Nevertheless, he would be a high-upside flex option.

49ers restructure Raheem Mostert's contract
No trade or holdout
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Jul 27, 1:56 pm

San Francisco
49ers and RB Raheem Mostert restructured his contract. There will be no trade nor holdout. “Happy we got things worked out and looking forward to him having another great season there,” said Mostert’s agent, @TesslerSports. “Thanks to the organization for taking care of him.” (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Mostert, through his agent, leaked to the media on July 8th that he wanted a trade out of San Francisco. With a new deal in place it appears Mostert will assume his role in the 49ers running back by committee approach along side Tevin Coleman. He's currently going in the middle of Round 5 in most redraft leagues.
