2019 Outlook
Depth Chart
Cooper played in nine games with the Cowboys in 2018 after joining the team via trade from the Oakland Raiders for a 2019 first round draft pick. In those nine games, Cooper caught 53 balls for 725 yards and six touchdowns on 76 targets.

His 16-game pace based on his numbers with the Cowboys would have given Cooper 94 catches for 1,288 yards and 12 touchdowns, which would have placed him firmly inside the top-12 at the wide receiver position.

On a negative note, Cooper continued his career-trend of monster games mixed in with duds, with two 30-plus point performances sandwiched around three games of fewer than five fantasy points. Lack of consistency is the main reason why Cooper has yet to ascend to the elite level among wide receivers, as his knack of disappearing at times burns fantasy owners.

For this reason, Cooper is a far more attractive player in best ball formats than standard leagues, but he should still be considered a high-end No.2 WR in both standard and PPR leagues.

Cowboys keep Cooper, five-year deal
$60 million guaranteed
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Mar 16, 10:00 pm

Dallas Cowboys
Amari Cooper intends to re-sign with the Dallas Cowboys on a 5-year, $100 million deal, league sources tell ESPN. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Schefter also reported that the Redskins made a run at Cooper, but in the end, he stays in Dallas. The deal is reportedly worth $60 million guaranteed. Cooper posted a 79-1189-8 line last season good enough to be the WR10 in PPR leagues. He'll hold a similar low-end WR1 value heading into 2020. The Cowboys will now turn their attention to working out a long-term deal with QB Dak Prescott.

Cowboys place franchise tag on Dak Prescott
Guarantees a salary around $31.6 million
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Mar 16, 10:31 am

Dallas Cowboys
Cowboys placed exclusive franchise tag on QB Dak Prescott, per source. No other team allowed to sign him. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Cowboys are negotiating with both Prescott and WR Amari Cooper. This move guarantees Prescott of a salary around $31.6 million for the upcoming season if the two sides do not reach a long-term deal by July 15th. Prescott will be the starting QB in Dallas one way or another.

Players approve new CBA
Vote totals: 1019-959
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Mar 15, 10:19 am

NFL
NFL players voted to approve a new collective bargaining agreement with the league's owners, ensuring NFL labor peace through at least 2030 and clearing the way for a 17-game regular season as early as 2021. The vote to approve was close, at 1019-959. Approval required a majority of the players voting. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: The vote passed by a slim margin but only a simple majority was needed. This new deal allows for the league to expand the number of playoff teams from 12 to 14 beginning this season. Another impactful clause is that teams will only be allowed to use one tag (franchise or transition) on potential free agents. Teams with multiple tag candidates (EX: Dallas with Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper) will now have tough decisions to make.

Amari Cooper wants to remain in Dallas
Finished with 79 catches in first full season as a Cowboy
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jan 23, 2:35 pm

Dallas Cowboys
Cowboys WR Amari Cooper says he hasn’t had any discussions with his agent about his contract but told me he wants to be in Dallas for a long time. Hasn’t spoken to new WR coach Adam Henry but says wants to get feedback from OBJ and Jarvis Landry. (NFL Network - Jane Slater)

FFToday's Take: Henry coached Beckham and Landry last season in Cleveland and a few years prior to that at LSU. Cooper fought through injuries for a good chunk of 2019, setting career-highs in both yards (1,179) and touchdowns (eight). The Cowboys also have to find a way to pay fellow impending free agents Dak Prescott and Byron Jones, but it seems more likely than not that Cooper will remain in Dallas.
