2019 Outlook
Depth Chart
After finishing as the top-scoring fantasy running back in each of the past two seasons, there is no question that Todd Gurley is one of the absolute top fantasy players we've ever seen in this sport. Unfortunately, all good things must eventually come to an end and that may be on the verge of happening this season for the 2017 NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

Gurley's chronic knee issue led to the superstar back sitting in weeks 15, 16 and 17 of the 2018 regular season. This, many believed, was a plan by the Rams coaching staff to make sure that their tailback would be ready to play in the playoffs. The Rams had a bye week in the playoffs which meant that Gurley had a full month off prior to Los Angeles' divisional round playoff game against the Cowboys when he ran the ball 16 times for 115 yards and a touchdown against one of the league's best defenses. Unfortunately that game may have finally been the demise of Gurley's surgically repaired left knee, as the back would touch the ball just 16 times for 47 total yards in the NFC Championship and Super Bowl while taking a backseat to plodding veteran running back C.J. Anderson.

While Anderson is now in Detroit which could mean less confidence in the rest of the backfield, we still have to be very concerned that Gurley's body just can no longer physically hold up to the wear and tear of a full workload in the NFL. That concern has pushed the once-considered top overall fantasy player down draft boards, all the way to an ADP just outside the first round in most leagues.

Reports out of Rams camp are that Gurley has not suffered "any sort of setbacks" with his knee this offseason and we know that he can be a dominant producer when on the field, so the upside is certainly still there for him to produce high-end RB1 numbers once again this season. The risk, however, is that Gurley's knee problems flare up once again and we're left every week wondering if he's going to play a full snap share or be limited to just a few series. That volatility, even more so than the player simply being declared "out," can derail a fantasy team very quickly and that's why Gurley is a risk that fantasy owners have to be comfortable with if they're going to select him in drafts.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Todd Gurley limited in practice Friday
Optimism he will be available Sunday
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 18, 4:00 pm

Sean McVay says Todd Gurley was limited in Friday's practice, but that he's optimistic he will be available Sunday. Backup RB Malcolm Brown is doubtful, and McVay says if he's unable to go that Darrell Henderson will assume the role. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Sounds like Gurley is going to give it a go against the Falcons which makes him a solid RB2 play in Week 7. Darrell Henderson can be Flex option as he takes over the change of pace role for Brown. The Falcons have given up 7 TDs to running backs through six weeks.

Injury Todd Gurley doubtful for Week 6
Quad injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 11, 3:30 pm

Todd Gurley is doubtful and Aqib Talib is out for Sunday’s game, Sean McVay said. (Lindsey Thiry on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Gurley out of the mix, Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson should handle all of the running back duties with Brown being the best fantasy play. The matchup is less than ideal with San Francisco giving up the second fewest fantasy points to the position including zero rushing touchdowns.

Injury Todd Gurley day-to-day with thigh contusion
Rams RB missed practice Wednesday
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 9, 7:24 pm

Sean McVay said Todd Gurley has a thigh contusion in his left quad. Gurley did not practice today and is considered day-to-day, McVay said. (Lindsey Thiry on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Gurley checks in as the No.15 fantasy running back through five weeks thanks to his 5 touchdowns but he ranks 17th in rushing yards and 41st in receiving yards among all RBs. We'll monitor Gurley's practice status during the week, but Malcolm Brown would see an increased role if Gurley somehow misses Week 6.

Injury No limits being put on Todd Gurley in Week 1
Sean McVay says RB will not be on play count
By: Doug Orth | Thu Sep 5, 8:25 pm

Sean McVay says Todd Gurley will not be on a play count when they open Sunday against the Panthers. (ESPN - Lindsey Thiry)

FFToday's Take: The NFL season is a marathon and not a sprint, but owners who took Gurley in their fantasy drafts have to be thrilled by this news, even if his massive workloads are probably a thing of the past. Gurley has the ability to deliver another top-five fantasy season handling 15 to 18 touches per game if his knee cooperates. With that said, owners would be wise to lock up Malcolm Brown as his handcuff if they haven't done so already.

Deal done: Ezekiel Elliott gets contract extension
$50 million guaranteed
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 4, 7:00 am

Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott have come to terms on a six-year, $90 million contract extension, a source told ESPN on Wednesday. The deal has $50 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder, surpassing Todd Gurley's $45 million as the most for an NFL running back. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Nothing like waiting until the last minute. Zeke is back being a top four pick in late drafts. A secondary report from Jane Slater suggests "the plan right now is about 20-25 reps on Sunday, rookie Tony Pollard behind him and FB Jamize Olawale as your best blitz pickup guy on 3rd downs. Things can always change but this is the plan heading into today." That seems like a light workload for Zeke and it won't be surprising if used more against the Giants in Week 1.
