2023 Outlook
Depth Chart
The Raiders have finally seemed to embrace their rebuild and part of that meant moving on from tight end Darren Waller this offseason. He joins the Giants, who traded the 100th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to acquire his services.

Difference-making tight ends are extraordinarily difficult to come by and Waller has a history of being one of those players. He put up back-to-back 1,100-yard seasons in 2019 and 2020 before struggling to stay on the field due to injuries in 2021 and 2022, which also hampered his per-game numbers when he was on the field.

Waller missed half of the 2022 season with an injury, but still managed to finish as the TE7 in fantasy points per game among tight ends who played in eight or more games. He's a size/speed specimen who has proven himself to be an elite fantasy option and now joins a team where he again projects to compete for the team lead in targets. Fellow tight end Daniel Bellinger is not a complete throwaway player, so Waller will indeed have some competition at the position, but there's no question that the Giants expect the 6'6", 255-pound former Raider to be a focal point in their offense.

While Travis Kelce is the gold standard at the position, there are a handful of tight ends being selected after him who all have the potential to finish as the No. 2 tight end in fantasy this season. He's had a few down years in a row now, but Waller is in that conversation. He's being selected as the sixth or seventh tight end off the board in most drafts, so his cost isn't too bad and it'd be surprising if he doesn't return at least that level of production as long as he's able to stay healthy.

Injury Darren Waller dealing with another hamstring injury
Week-to-Week
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 1, 2:56 pm

New York Giants
TE Darren Waller “very frustrating” and “a little bit discouraging” that he’s dealing with another hamstring injury. Waller said it’s likely going to be “potentially” weeks. The amount of weeks he’s not quite sure. “It may take a little bit.“ So it seems very unlikely he plays Sunday vs. Raiders. Next week vs. Cowboys also in question. (Jordan Raanan on X)

FFToday's Take: Waller has played in every game this season but hasn't played a full season since 2020. He's battled hamstring issues in the past and will continue his battle in 2023. The Giants have shown very little in the passing game this season but will now be forced to find other options.

Injury Saquon Barkley trending towards playing in Week 6
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 15, 7:00 am

New York Giants
Giants are “optimistic” and “hopeful” that RB Saquon Barkley will play Sunday night after missing the past three games due to a sprained ankle, but also want to make sure there are no setbacks, per sources. But they “feel good about it”, so signs point up. Giants’ TE Darren Waller, listed as questionable for Sunday night due to a groin injury, is expected to play vs. the Bills, per source. Bills’ TE Dawson Knox, listed as questionable for Sunday night due to a wrist injury, is expected to play vs. the Giants, per source (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: It looks like we may see Barkley on the field Sunday night but given his gametime status it will be a tricky situation for fantasy owners to navigate. The Giants will be without starting QB Daniel Jones so Barkley would be a welcome addition to the offense. Matt Breida has done very little in Barkley's absence.

Injury Darren Waller should be good to go for SNF
Tightness in his hamstring Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Sep 10, 7:15 am

New York Giants
Per sources, the Giants believe TE Darren Waller (questionable, hamstring) should be ok to play tonight vs Cowboys. Waller reported tightness in his hamstring Friday and team held him back out of caution. (Dan Graziano on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The rash of hamstring injuries throughout the league has bit Waller too but it sounds like he'll be out there against the Cowboys. Waller's fantasy stock has picked up steam throughout training camp as he appears to be the favorite receiving target in the offense. We'll find out tonight if our suspicions are confirmed.

Injury Darren Waller lands on Injury Report, Questionable
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 8, 2:25 pm

New York Giants
Some interesting takeaways from the Giants injury report. TE Darren Waller was limited in Friday's practice with a hamstring injury. He is now listed as questionable for Sunday night vs. Cowboys. WR Wan'Dale Robinson is unlikely to play as he continues his comeback from torn ACL. He's one of three players listed as doubtful. (Jordan Raanan on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Waller has been no stranger to the injury report in his career and it's more than concerning that he pops up here on a Friday. The Cowboys and Giants don't kickoff until Sunday night, so hopefully we'll get a better idea of his status on Sunday morning .
