2019 Outlook
Depth Chart
After an up-and-down 2018 that included a suspension and multiple benchings for erratic play, Jameis Winston enters 2019 as the unquestioned starter for new head coach Bruce Arians in what is a make or break season for the former first overall pick. Winston is effectively playing for a new contract either with the Bucs or with another team, which will hopefully motivate the promising young quarterback to deliver his best season as a professional.

Winston finished the season as the No.9 quarterback in points per game, tied with Drew Brees and less than a point behind Jared Goff. If you combine the stats for the two quarterbacks in Tampa Bay last season, Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick, you would have had a top-three fantasy quarterback with well over 500 passing yards and 35 touchdowns.

The addition of head coach Bruce Arians is going to be a positive for all of the skill portion players in the passing game, especially Winston, as Arians has a long track record of increasing ADOT for his receivers and improving the production of his quarterbacks.

Another positive for Winston is the fact that he plays in a tough division with high scoring teams like the Falcons and Saints, and the defense for the Bucs projects to be one of the worst in the NFC. A gun-slinging quarterback with a great head coach, fantastic skill position players, and a terrible defense is a winning formula for fantasy production. Let's just hope Winston isn't too much of a gun-slinger and gets benched.

Chargers, Rivers agree to part ways
Rivers moving on after 16 seasons
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Feb 10, 1:00 pm

NFL
End of an era: Los Angeles Chargers and QB Philip Rivers have mutually agreed that Rivers will enter free agency and not return to the team for the 2020 season. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This has been the prevailing wisdom over the last few weeks, especially with Rivers picking up his family and moving them to Florida. Rumors of a Buccaneers - Rivers marriage continue as Tampa Bay reviews its desire to keep the turnover machine that is Jameis Winston.

Tampa Bay a landing spot for Philip Rivers?
Chargers QB moves family to Flordida
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Jan 20, 2:30 pm

Hearing a lot of buzz about Tampa as a possible landing spot for Philip Rivers. As reported back in late November, he and the Chargers were likely headed to a parting of the ways. (Jason La Canfora on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Jameis Winston tossing 30 INTs in 2019 the Buccaneers have a decision to make on their free agent quarterback. If they choose to part ways, Rivers could be a one-year option as it seems he's played in last down in the powder blues. The Bucs could use the franchise tag on Winston which would come with a $27 million price tag.

Injury Mike Evans placed on IR
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 18, 12:30 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bucs officially placed WR Mike Evans on IR. Tampa Bay also signed WR Spencer Schnell to its active roster. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Tampa has lost their top two receivers along with Scotty Miller to hamstring injuries in recent weeks. Breshad Perriman, Justin Watson and Ishmael Hyman will make up the three wide receiver sets for Jameis Winston on Saturday against the Texans with Perriman being a solid WR2 option.

Injury Jameis Winston will start against Detroit
Thumb injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 13, 12:03 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Arians says Jameis Winston has shown what he needs to with his injured thumb for Sunday in Detroit. “He’s fine. He’s ready to go.” (Greg Auman on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Winston graduated from throwing tennis balls on Thursday to footballs on Friday and showed enough to Bruce Arians to earn the starting nod on Sunday. While there is risk of being limited or re-injury, it's hard to ignore Winston's juicy matchup against the Lions.

Injury Jameis Winston should be OK for Week 15
Played through a fractured bone in thumb in Week 14
By: Doug Orth | Mon Dec 9, 9:00 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
After Jameis Winston's visit with a hand specialist this afternoon, the team is "optimistic" about him continuing to play this season, I'm told. ‬The issue was determining if he could risk further injury by continuing to play. (ESPN - Jenna Laine)

FFToday's Take: Winston returned to the game after suffering the injury in Week 14 and ended up throwing for a career-high 456 yards and four touchdowns, so it would seem he's more probable than not to play in a very favorable matchup in Week 15 against the Lions. Winston is a rollercoaster ride to be sure, but his remaining fantasy schedule (at Detroit and at home versus the Texans in Week 16) may be soft enough to allow him to guide fantasy teams to league titles.
