2020 Outlook
Depth Chart
Michael Thomas is on a G.O.A.T. pace among wide receivers. In his first four seasons, he has produced 92, 104, 125, and 149 receptions. His yardage totals have climbed from 1,137, to 1,245, to 1,405, to 1,725 in 2019. He has scored 9 touchdowns in three of four seasons. On top of those ridiculous stats, his catch rate has been over 80% in each of the last two seasons, which is an incredible stat in and of itself.

No matter what defenses do to try to stop him, he finds a way to get open enough to make the reception. His catch rate shows his strong hands and great length, along with the fact that he is a fierce competitor. He truly wants to be the best receiver, and he puts in the work to get there.

After his historic 2019, Thomas is the first receiver off the board in 2020 drafts, going in the middle of the first round. That is the case despite the dearth of options at running back after the first couple rounds. Thomas is simply too valuable, particularly in PPR leagues, for him to slip much lower than that.

Nothing has changed in his situation much in 2020, aside from two things that have the potential to hurt his fantasy stock. First, Drew Brees continues to age. Although that has not negatively affected his play yet, sometimes age can cause a sharp and sudden drop-off in the quality of a quarterback's play, as we saw with Peyton Manning in his final season. Were that to happen, Thomas could take a big hit. Much of his success has depended on his connection with Brees and on Brees' accuracy.

Second, the addition of Emmanuel Sanders to the team should help them overall, but there is a chance we could see Thomas' target share fall a bit. If his targets go from 185 in 2019 to 140 in 2020, that would certainly knock his production down a few pegs. I doubt the impact will be that dramatic, but it's something to keep in mind.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Michael Thomas expected to play
Ankle / Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 8, 4:15 am

New Orleans
#Saints WR Michael Thomas (ankle/hamstring) had a good and active week of practice and barring a setback, should be good to go tonight, source said. Meanwhile, #Bucs coach Bruce Arians has said WR Chris Godwin (broken finger) is expected to be on the field, as well. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: We haven't seen Michael Thomas in action since Week 1. Emmanuel Sanders will also play in this game after missing the last two weeks due to being on the COVID-19 list.

Injury Michael Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders practice Wednesday
Kamara misses with minor foot issue
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 4, 3:40 pm

New Orleans
Saints RB Alvin Kamara wasn’t present for the early portion of practice open to the media Wednesday. Will get the practice report soon to find out why. There was no known injury in Sunday’s game. Good news: WRs Michael Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, Marquez Callaway were participating. (Mike Triplett on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Time will tell is Thomas (hamstring, ankle) is able to play this week but we should get Sanders back against the Bucs. Kamara has a bone bruise on his foot but it isn't expected to affect his status for Week 9.

Injury Michael Thomas, Marquez Callaway Out for Week 8
Thomas limited in practice this week
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 30, 3:58 pm

New Orleans
The Saints have officially ruled out WRs Michael Thomas and Marquez Callaway for Sunday at Chicago. And WR Emmanuel Sanders remains on the reserve-COVID list. So expect a heavy dose of Alvin Kamara, Jared Cook, Tre’Quan Smith and Deonte Harris in the passing game. (Mike Triplett on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The frustration for Thomas owners continues. Thomas got in some limited work this week but won't be on the field this Sunday due to his hamstring injury. With Callaway (ankle) and Sanders (COVID) also out, it will be Tre'Quan Smith and Deonte Harris doing most the damage from the wide receiver spot. Both are sketch flex options given Kamara and TE Jared Cook should be the top two options in the offense against the Bears.

Injury Michael Thomas back at practice Thursday
Limited session
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 29, 11:30 pm

New Orleans
Saints’ WR Michael Thomas returned to practice today. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: Before his fantasy owners start doing backflips and cartwheels, Thomas started last week with a limited practice before pulling a couple of DNPs, which led to him missing a fifth straight game. A limited practice also doesn't guarantee his availability in Week 8 against the Bears, but it does mean he is getting close. Thomas might be rusty if he is able to go this weekend, but he needs to be in lineups if he is active. Few receivers possess his combination of floor and upside.

Injury Emmanuel Sanders placed on reserve-COVID list
Out for Week 7
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 23, 2:45 pm

New Orleans
Saints are placing WR Emmanuel Sanders on reserve-COVID list, meaning he will be out for Sunday’s game vs. Panthers, per source. Issue is he practiced Thursday and now must quarantine. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Michael Thomas looking doubtful after suffering a hamstring injury and missing practice Thursday and Friday, the Saints will be focused on Alvin Kamara, Jared Cook and Tre'Quan Smith on offense against the Panthers.

Injury No practice for Michael Thomas on Thursday
Hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Thu Oct 22, 9:00 pm

New Orleans
Saints WR Michael Thomas was not present during the open portion of Thursday's practice. He was limited on Wednesday due to ankle and hamstring injuries. (Nick Underhill on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Thomas suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 1 and hasn't played a game since. Week 7 was supposed to be date of his triumphant return, but a mid-week downgrade from a limited practice to a DNP does not bode well. Perhaps he ends up being a game-time decision, but his fantasy owners probably need to go to Plan B for at least one more week. Carolina's defense has been very stingy against quarterbacks and receivers, making Emmanuel Sanders and Tre'Quan Smith dicey flex plays at best in Week 7.

Injury Michael Thomas limited Wednesday, ankle/hamstring injuries
New hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 21, 5:06 pm

New Orleans
Saints WR Michael Thomas listed as limited in Wednesday's practice with the ankle injury and a new hamstring designation. (Mike Triplett on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Michael Thomas owners have to be pulling their hair out at this point. After missing weeks with a high ankle sprain, then missing last week due to team discipline we have a new hamstring injury to deal with. Monitor Thursday and Friday practice reports.

Injury Jared Cook expected to play Monday night
Groin injury
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Oct 12, 9:36 am

New Orleans
The #Saints won’t have star WR Michael Thomas (team discipline) tonight. But TE Jared Cook (groin) and DT Sheldon Rankins (thumb) -- both listed as questionable -- are expected to play against the #Chargers, per sources. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cook missed Week 4 with a groin injury and was limited in practice this week. With Thomas out, Cook has viable paths to being a TE1 this week.

Michael Thomas to sit Monday night
Team discipline after altercation with teammate
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 11, 4:21 pm

New Orleans
Saints’ WR Michael Thomas had an altercation with a teammate at practice this weekend, per league sources. Saints now disciplining Thomas by sitting him Monday night, when he was being listed as questionable with an ankle injury. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Thomas was listed as Questionable with an ankle injury but will now sit after getting into it with a teammate. Tre'Quan Smith and Emmanuel Sanders will continue to operate as the top wide receivers for Drew Brees. There's a chance tight end Jared Cook (groin) will return.

Injury Michael Thomas listed as Questionable
WR/KR Deonte Harris ruled out
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Oct 10, 5:00 pm

New Orleans
It looks like there is a good chance Saints WR Michael Thomas will play since he has practiced for two weeks and got upgraded to questionable this week. But for fantasy purposes it’s always smart to have a just-in-case backup option ready since the Saints don’t play until Monday. (Mike Triplett on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Since the Saints play Monday night, some fantasy owners will have to make a call on Sunday whether or not to have Thomas is their lineup. TE Jared Cook is also listed as Questionable. The Saints have a bye in Week 6.

Injury False positive test for Michael Burton, NO/DET game on
4th false positive test for Saints
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 4, 7:30 am

New Orleans
Michael Burton's retest was negative. They also did a POC that was negative. He will be able to play.... All the other tests were negative (Nick Underhill on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This is the 4th false positive test the Saints have had this season. Michael Thomas is set to miss this game with his sprained ankle.

Injury Michael Thomas, Cook out for the Saints
Thomas limited in practice Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 2, 5:00 pm

New Orleans
Wow. Saints WR Michael Thomas ruled out for Sunday as they decide to practice caution with his ankle injury - along with five other starters ruled out: CB Marshon Lattimore, CB Janoris Jenkins, DE Marcus Davenport, TE Jared Cook and G Andrus Peat. (Mike Triplett on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The amount of high-profile skill position players that have missed time over the first three weeks is astounding. Without Thomas and Cook, it should be the Alvin Kamara show once again for the Saints. Tre'Quan Smith and Emmanuel Sanders will be the wideout options for the Saints. Both are Flex candidates.

Injury Michael Thomas limited on Wednesday
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 30, 4:00 pm

New Orleans
Michael Thomas returned to practice today for the Saints after missing the least two games with an ankle sprain. The wide receiver was moving well during the portion of practice open to the media. Getting the offensive player of the year back would obviously be a huge boost. (Nick Underhill on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Thomas' availability for Week 4 is off to a good start. We will get a better idea of his true status after practice on Friday.

Injury Michael Thomas may miss several weeks
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Sep 15, 6:41 pm

New Orleans
#Saints star WR Michael Thomas' high-ankle injury is worse than originally believed, and he’s now expected to miss several weeks, sources tell me and @RapSheet. Thomas is as tough as they come and surely will try to defy that timeline. But it'll be a battle. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Thomas is a fantasy stud that can't be replaced. It won't be surprising if the team puts Thomas on the three-week injured reserved. Without Thomas, Tre'Quan Smith could see some increased playing time but targets typically headed to Thomas will likey be spread around to Kamara, Emmanuel Sanders and Jared Cook.

Injury Michael Thomas has high-ankle sprain
WR not ready to concede Week 2 yet
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 14, 6:25 pm

New Orleans
Saints star WR Michael Thomas suffered a high-ankle injury in Sunday’s win over the #Bucs, but it’s something he believes he can play through, sources tell me and @RapSheet. With an extra day before next Monday’s game vs. #Raiders, nobody ruling Thomas out. (NFL Network - Tom Pelissero)

FFToday's Take: The sad part is the injury happened on a block late in the game already decided. There is some belief this could be a "minor" high-ankle sprain, but it is difficult for even the most elite athletes to play through this injury and remain productive. Fantasy owners would be wise to use this week to prepare for the possibility Thomas may be limited for a few weeks at the very least. Emmanuel Sanders could be a capable fantasy starter should Thomas sit in Week 2 versus the Raiders.
