2021 Outlook
Depth Chart
There's a lot to unpack here. The truth is there's almost more riding on HC Frank Reich, Wentz' former OC in Philadelphia, than there is on the QB himself.

Hope is a big word in conversations surrounding Wentz. There's hope that a change of scenery and a new offense with an upgraded offensive line, a powerful rushing attack led by Jonathan Taylor, a three-pronged receiving trio in T.Y. Hilton, Michael Pittman Jr., and Parris Campbell, and a viable TE duo of veteran Jack Doyle and up and comer Mo Alie-Cox, can help Wentz find his old form. There's hope that Reich can correct the mechanical flaws that Wentz developed over the last couple seasons. And there's hope that if none of that happens, that Wentz at least doesn't self-destruct to the point that a Colts team otherwise positioned for a serious playoff run, falls short of expectations.

Of course, that's exactly what Wentz did in 2020. He self-destructed. In addition to just flat-out poor play that resulted in his benching after Week 12 and the technical flaws that have taken the air out of his game, he actually led the NFL in interceptions, fumbles, and sacks taken. Then there are the issues he reportedly had in the locker room, with the coaching staff, and with the front office in Philadelphia. It's a lot to ask of Reich, but if he can somehow reach Wentz, the rest of the pieces are in place for a potent, if not explosive offense. However, until he proves the transition is officially underway, he's a borderline QB2.

Injury Decision on Wentz may not come until Sunday
Brett Hundley took majority of starter reps Wednesday
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Sep 23, 9:38 am

Indianapolis Colts
#Colts practice squad QB Brett Hundley took the majority of starter reps in practice Wednesday, and he and Jacob Eason may both play against the #Titans if Carson Wentz is out, per sources. There’s still hope Wentz (ankles) can play. Final decision may not come until Sunday. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This is turning into a situation to avoid for fantasy owners. Even if Wentz plays, which seems unlikely at this point, he's going to be limited. The coaching staff obviously doesn't have a lot of confidence in Eason. All Colts skill position players should be downgraded in Week 3.

Injury Carson Wentz dealing with injuries to both ankles
Titans on deck in Week 3
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Sep 20, 10:38 am

Indianapolis Colts
#Colts QB Carson Wentz is dealing with injuries to not just one ankle, but both ankles sources say. He’s having tests today to determine the severity of his sprains suffered yesterday. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Wentz injured his foot during training camp and is now being bothered by sprained ankles. He was a fringe consideration in 2-QB formats but is trending in the wrong direction. If Wentz misses time, Jacob Eason isn't going to move the fantasy needle even against a suspect Titans defense in Week 3.

Injury Carson Wentz expected to practice on limited basis Monday

Indianapolis Colts
Frank Reich says at his presser Carson Wentz and Quenton Nelson will start practicing on a limited basis tomorrow. A great sign for Indy. (James Palmer on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Wentz is three weeks removed from his foot surgery that reportedly had a 5-12 week timeline. Colts first game is three weeks away. Wentz is trending to meet the low-end of his recovery time but it's anybody's guess what lingering effects he may have. The Colts offense is going to suffer with either Sam Ehlinger or Jacob Eason under center.

Indianapolis Colts
Colts quarterback Carson Wentz and guard Quenton Nelson are trending toward being available for Indianapolis' regular-season opener against the Seattle Seahawks, sources told @mortreport. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Both players were originally under the odd 5-12 week timetable for recovery. Such a large time gap doesn't give fantasy owners much clarity on the situation but it's nice to know that Wentz appears to be trending towards the earlier time frame. Camp notes on backups Jacob Eason and Sam Ehlinger haven't necessarily been glowing. Wentz should still be treated as a no touch in most single QB leagues.

Injury Carson Wentz will have surgery on injured foot
Out 5-12 weeks
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Aug 2, 11:51 am

Indianapolis Colts
Colts coach Frank Reich says QB Carson Wentz will have surgery on his injured foot. Team leaned the pain stems from an injury Wentz previously suffered - possibly even back in high school. 5-12 week timetable. Very wide range. (Zak Keefer on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: According to Reich, the starting job is now in the hands of Jacob Eason who was drafted in the 4th round last year. The wide timetable for Wentz's recovery doesn't help fantasy owners very much. In addition this scenario isn't ideal for the fantasy prospects of the Colts passing game. Wentz is a no-touch in single QB leagues until further notice.

Injury Carson Wentz suffers foot injury in practice
Out indefinitely as he undergoes further testing
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Jul 30, 11:45 am

Indianapolis Colts
Colts' QB Carson Wentz is out indefinitely as he undergoes further testing on a foot injury that he suffered at the end of Thursday's practice, per @MikeWellsNFL and me. Colts' second-year QB Jacob Eason took the starter reps at today's practice, with Sam Ellinger as his backup. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Not ideal. Foot injuries can be tricky but we need to wait for the official diagnosis before projecting how this affects his fantasy status.
