2020 Outlook
Depth Chart
Leonard Fournette gets a bad rap. He has been on one of the worst teams in the league since he was drafted 4th overall in 2017, yet he has produced each year. He has never produced at the level expected of a player drafted that highly, but then the team around him has been mostly awful.

His yards-per-carry average was the highest of his career in 2019 at 4.3, and that was behind the 27th-best run-blocking offensive line, per Football Outsiders. He has never been known as a pass-catcher but had 76 receptions last season on 100 targets. He logged nearly 1,700 all-purpose yards, and it seems the only reason folks are down on him (myself included) is that he has not turned his touches into more touchdowns. On 341 touches in 2019 he scored only three times.

However, in 2017 and 2018 he scored 10 and 6 times, respectively. So could it be that he scored so seldomly because his team was so rarely in a position to score? That is certainly part of the story. Still, it is hard to trust a back on such a poor team, with a quarterback who is still hard to have faith in. Therefore, most fantasy players will avoid Fournette until at least the third round, maybe the fourth. But the upside is there. Any player who is likely to touch the ball 300 times, as Fournette is, is a very valuable player to roster.

He is unlikely to receive 100 targets again, especially since new play-caller Jay Gruden brought in Chris Thompson to be his third-down back. But with a better offensive design, it is also likely that defenses will have a harder time shutting down the offense, leading to more effectiveness in moving the ball, and more scoring opportunities. It seems likely that Fournette will be on the move to a new team after this season, which could lead to him being in a much better situation in 2021. In short, Fournette is a nice buy-low candidate this season, particularly in dynasty.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Leonard Fournette expected to be active, but limited
Still not 100 percent
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 18, 7:00 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Buccaneers’ RB Leonard Fournette, listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Packers, is expected to be active but limited, per source. It is not expected to be a regular workload for Fournette, who is improved from his ankle injury, but still not 100 percent. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Fournette was active last week but was only going to play in case of an emergency. Ronald Jones remains the back to own in Tampa Bay and makes for a decent RB2 today in a high total game (55.0) against the Packers.

Injury Leonard Fournette, Godwin ruled out for Week 4
Wait and see on Scotty Miller
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 2, 12:24 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Both Leonard Fournette and Chris Godwin are officially out for Sunday against the Chargers. They’re waiting to see on Scotty Miller. (Jenna Laine on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Miller did some work on Friday and has a chance to play but fantasy owners should follow his status over the weekend. With Fournette out, Ronald Jones is a solid RB2 option this week against the Chargers. LeSean McCoy could see increase in usage but remains off the fantasy radar.

Ryquell Armstread placed on COVID-19 list for second time
Devine Ozigbo, James Robinson and Chris Thompson remain
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 4, 4:42 pm

Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars have placed RB Ryquell Armstead on the reserve/COVID list. It's the second time Armstead has been placed on the list this preseason. He is a possible starter in their backfield following the release of Leonard Fournette. (Field Yates on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Jaguars have a jumbled mess in their backfield after the release of Fournette. Armstead along with Devine Ozigbo, James Robinson and Chris Thompson are left on the depth chart with Thompson handling a good portion of third down duties. It's going to be hard to peg a RB to own for fantasy owners drafting this weekend. Given the Jags are projected to be one of the worst teams in the league, investing anything but a late-round dart throw is understandable.

Buccaneers release RB Dare Ogunbowale, K Matt Gay
Crowded RB room
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 4, 8:54 am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The #Bucs are waiving K Matt Gay and RB Dare Ogunbowale, per multiple reports. @RapSheet reported Ogunbowale’ release and @TomPelissero had Gay first. (Rick Stroud on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With the signing of Leonard Fournette, one of Dare and LeSean McCoy was going to be released. Dare got the short straw which is somewhat surprising considering he contributes on special teams. Fournette, Ronald Jones and McCoy are your top 3 running backs while Ryan Succop wins the kicking job, if you're keeping score at home.

Leonard Fournette lands with the Bucs
Ronald Jones' fantasy stock deflates
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 2, 8:55 pm

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Former #Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette is planning to sign with the #Bucs, per me and @TomPelissero. The belief is it will get done. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Fournette is getting a one-year cheap deal with the Bucs. That sounds you hear is the air coming out of the Ronald Jones' fantasy value and you can expect one of LeSean McCoy or Dare Ogunbowale to get cut. This is likely to be a committee approach with Fournette and Jones with Fournette having the upper hand given his production in the league.

Jaguars release Leonard Fournette
Tried to trade him during the Spring
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Aug 31, 9:22 am

Jacksonville Jaguars
Jaguars released RB Leonard Fournette. Jaguars did all they could to trade RB Leonard Fournette in the spring and then again this summer. But as Jaguars’ HC Doug Marrone said today: "We couldn't get anything, a fifth, a sixth, anything. We couldn't get anything." (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Heading into the final year of his contract, we heard the trade rumors this off-season but after not being able to strike a deal, Jacksonville is moving on from it's workhorse running back. Chicago could be a landing spot for Fournette now that David Montgomery (groin) is scheduled to miss a 2-4 weeks. You're likely to see a RBBC in Jacksonville as they shift away from a standard workhorse running back.
