2022 Outlook
Depth Chart
Entering the final year of his rookie deal, Williams picked a good time to have his best season, posting 76 receptions (well above his previous high of 49), 1,146 yards, and 9 TDs. That was enough to earn the former seventh overall pick a three-year, $60 million deal to stay in Los Angeles. It wasn't always smooth sailing for Williams in 2021, though, as after topping 80 yards four times in his first five games while scoring six times the Clemson product would score just once in his next nine with only two outings of more than 65 yards receiving.

While the team will doubtless be hoping for better consistency this year, Williams is bound to be more volatile than Allen just based on his role as more of a downfield threat. At 6-foot-4, 218 pounds, the sixth-year pro has the size to outfight defensive backs for the ball in contested catch situations along with the speed to get behind them. He feels slightly overvalued if you're counting on him a low-end WR2, but if you can grab Williams as your third receiver there's certainly enough upside there for him to produce as a No.2.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Mike Williams suffers another ankle injury
Aggravation of earlier high-ankle sprain
By: Doug Orth | Tue Nov 22, 1:30 am

WR Mike Williams had a "re-aggravation" of his high ankle sprain last night, per Brandon Staley. Staley said team will "find out a lot more in the next couple days" but it is not considered "a significant re-injury." (The Athletic - Daniel Popper)

FFToday's Take: Williams lasted all of six snaps in Week 11 after sitting out three weeks (missing two games) with his Week 7 high-ankle sprain. He won't have the benefit of a bye week this time around, so there is a good chance Williams does not return until the fantasy playoffs if the Chargers learn their lesson and are more cautious with him this time. Josh Palmer had a huge game in his stead and should remain a viable WR3 option in most 12-team leagues.

Injury Mike Williams, Keenan Allen listed as Questionable
Both practiced in full on Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 18, 4:18 pm

Mike Williams (ankle) and Keenan Allen (hamstring) are both QUESTIONABLE for Sunday night vs. Chiefs. Both receivers practiced fully today. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It sounds like both Chargers' receivers are trending towards playing Sunday night against the Chiefs. Perhaps we'll get further confirmation on Sunday morning. Allen has been out since Week 1 while Williams last saw the field in Week 7 against Seattle.

Injury Chargers could get top two WRs back in Week 11
Keenan Allen, Mike Williams to practice soon
By: Doug Orth | Tue Nov 15, 1:00 am

WR Mike Williams (ankle) and WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) will be back in practice this week, Brandon Staley said. (The Athletic - Daniel Popper)

FFToday's Take: It will come as no surprise to fantasy managers that Allen has played only two games, one of which was an early exit in Week 4 - the last time he was in action. Williams has been sidelined since Week 7 with a high-ankle sprain. The Chargers have been wise to take it easy with their receivers and should see the payoff over the remainder of the favorable receiver schedule.

Injury Keenan Allen still battling hamstring issue
Got worse during the bye week
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 2, 3:55 pm

Keenan Allen says his hamstring got worse during the bye week when training. He says next time he goes in a game it won’t be on a snap count, that it will be all or nothing, with his hamstring absolutely ready to go. He said he felt great going into Week 7, but not 100%. (Lindsey Thiry on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Allen injured his hamstring in Week 1 and still can't get over the injury. The Chargers wide receiver missed practice on Wednesday and it looks like he's going to miss Week 9. Already down Mike Williams, Joshua Palmer, DeAndre Carter, Michael Bandy and Jason Moore and next up on the depth chart.

Injury Mike Williams expected to miss four weeks
High-ankle sprain
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 26, 2:06 pm

#Chargers are expecting Mike Williams to miss a minimum of four weeks. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This is a typical timeline for a high-ankle sprain which Williams suffered in Week 7. The Chargers have a bye in Week 8 which means it's possible he could be back for the Week 12 matchup against the Arizona. Keenan Allen should be back playing a full workload in Week 9 against the Falcons.

Injury Mike Williams likely to miss multiple games
High-ankle sprain
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 24, 6:40 pm

Mike Williams has a sprained ankle and will miss "weeks not days," Brandon Staley said. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: Williams' fantasy managers catch a bit of a break with the timing of this injury - the Chargers go on their bye in Week 8 - but it would be overly optimistic for anyone to believe he will be ready to perform at his usual level by Week 9. High-ankle sprains tend to affect players that don't give them time to fully heal for the rest of the season. Josh Palmer likely goes right back to WR3 consideration even with Keenan Allen (hamstring) healthy, while Gerald Everett will likely remain a low-end TE1 option.

Injury Keenan Allen Out for Week 4
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 30, 4:18 pm

WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) is OUT vs. Texans. Brandon Staley said plan is for Donald Parham to sit this weekend and return next week vs. Browns. Wants to make sure Parham is in proper football shape. Today was Parham’s first day back practicing fully. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This will be the third game Allen has missed after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 1. Mike Williams, Josh Palmer and DeAndre Carter will be the top three wideouts for Justin Herbert (ribs) against the Texans. Allen left practice early Thursday and didn't practice Friday which isn't a great sign for his availability in Week 5.

Injury Keenan Allen ruled out for Week 2
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 14, 2:50 pm

WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) and TE Donald Parham (hamstring) are OUT for Thursday night vs. Chiefs. CB J.C. Jackson (ankle) is QUESTIONABLE. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Allen injured his hamstring Week 1 and wasn't likely to play this week against the Chiefs given the short turnaround in Week 2. Mike Williams, Josh Palmer and DeAndre Carter will be the top three wideouts for Justin Herbert in a potential shootout. The Chiefs will be without rookie cornerback Trent McDuffie (hamstring).

Injury Keenan Allen dealing with hamstring pull
Chargers play on short week against KC
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 12, 5:25 pm

Keenan Allen will have an MRI on his hamstring after being ruled out yesterday, source said. Given the quick turnaround, missing Thursday vs. the #Chiefs makes sense, but tests today will determine the full extent of the injury. (NFL Network - Ian Rapoport)

FFToday's Take: There is almost no chance that Allen will play on Thursday night. If that turns out to be the case, Josh Palmer figures to benefit the most from a fantasy perspective as he will likely start opposite Mike Williams. Managers in deeper leagues could take a flyer on DeAndre Carter, who tied Palmer for the most slot snaps in the opener. Gerald Everett could also factor into the offense a bit more as well.
