2020 Outlook
Depth Chart
After spending his first two seasons stuck behind David Johnson, Chase Edmonds is still second in the Cardinals backfield this season behind Kenyan Drake. Drake had some truly gigantic fantasy performances down the stretch and there's no question that he deserves to be valued highly in drafts, but fantasy owners might just be sleeping on Edmonds.

He saw the field only sparingly for the first few weeks of the 2019 season, but Edmonds quietly began to sneak onto the field a bit more in the weeks leading up to Johnson's injury. Then Edmonds proceeded to absolutely crush in his one starting opportunity, as he accumulated 150 total yards and three touchdowns on 29 total touches. Fantasy owners were ecstatic that they might have struck gold off the waiver wire, but the ride didn't last long as Edmonds unfortunately suffered a hamstring injury that would keep him off the field for three weeks. By the time he returned, the Cardinals had traded for Kenyan Drake who had taken over the backfield and Edmonds simply didn't look like the same player in the limited opportunities he did get to spell Drake down the stretch.

The Cardinals did draft Eno Benjamin who himself was a serious weapon out of the backfield at Arizona State, but Edmonds appears to be entrenched as at least the primary backup for Drake. He may even see between eight to 12 touches per week when Drake is healthy, given that the Cardinals run a fast-paced offense that regularly requires them to give breathers to their starters.

Now healthy after a full offseason, Edmonds could have fantasy-viable weeks even if Drake remains healthy as the starter. He's a solid contributor in the passing game and he's shown an ability to find the end zone near the goal line. He also looks to be one of the few late-round handcuff-type running backs who has real upside to provide RB1 weeks in the case that he does become the starter.

Injury Cardinals sound optimistic on Kenyan Drake
Gametime decision
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Nov 14, 11:30 pm

Arizona Cardinals
Cardinals’ RB Kenyan Drake, listed as questionable due for Sunday to an ankle injury, has a good chance to play vs. the Bills, per source. Arizona sounds optimistic and hopeful about his availability, but the Cardinals want to test Drake in pre-game warmups and see how he feels. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Positive signs for Drake but this muddies the waters for Chase Edmonds owners. Hopefully we'll get further clarification on Drake's status before lock of the early games on Sunday.

Injury Kenyan Drake limited Friday, listed as Questionable
Gametime decision
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 13, 3:15 pm

Arizona Cardinals
Kingsbury said he feels strong that S Budda Baker will play Sunday but they do want to run him around pregame to make sure. RB Kenyan Drake must show on game day he's able to do all the things he normally would, otherwise he will be inactive. (Darren Urban on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Sounds like Drake will be a gametime decision which is problematic for fantasy owners since Arizona and Buffalo play in the late-window on Sunday afternoon. Chase Edmonds received 28 touches with Drake out in Week 9.

Injury Kenyan Drake out for Week 9
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 6, 3:51 pm

Arizona Cardinals
Kingsbury made it sound like, because D.J. Foster knows the offense so well, he will be the likely backup running back to Chase Edmonds. (Darren Urban on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Earlier in the week, Arizona stated that Kenyan Drake's ankle injury wasn't as bad as first thought. However, he will miss Week 9. Chase Edmonds is locked in as a RB1 this week against the Dolphins.

Injury Injury to Kenyan Drake not as bad as first thought
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Nov 2, 9:25 am

Arizona Cardinals
On a more positive note, Kingsbury said the injury to RB Kenyan Drake wasn't as bad as first feared. He called Drake "day to day" although he wasn't sure that meant playing this week. Said Cards and Drake were "very fortunate" from what it first looked like. (Darren Urban on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: We were expecting a multi-week absence from Drake but it sounds like he may be able to return in Week 10 against the Bills. Assuming Drake sits in Week 9, Chase Edmonds against the Dolphins is shaping up to be one of the better running back plays of the week.

Injury Kenyan Drake expected to miss multiple games
Slight tear in ankle
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 26, 4:55 pm

Arizona Cardinals
Cardinals’ RB Kenyan Drake is expected to miss “a few weeks” with a slight tear of a ligament in his ankle, per source. Cardinals are treating it as a high-ankle sprain. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: Drake catches a bit of a break in that Arizona is headed into its bye week in Week 8, but if this injury is anything like a high-ankle sprain, there's a decent chance he won't be effective anytime before December. Chase Edmonds, who had been serving primarily as the team's passing-down back, figures to have multiple games now to prove he can be what the Cardinals hoped Drake would be this year. There's a strong case to be made he will be a top 15 fantasy back during Drake's absence.

Injury Kenyan Drake "close" to returning to practice
WR DeAndre Hopkins also back soon for Cards
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Wed Sep 2, 7:28 am

Arizona Cardinals
Cards HC Kliff Kingsbury said both wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and running back Kenyan Drake are "close" to returning to full practice. Kingsbury had previously said he didn't want them back on the field until they were 100 percent with an eye toward being ready for the season opener Sept. 13. (AZCardinals.com)

FFToday's Take: They should be practicing next week as they lead up to the season opener against the 49ers. Drake will likely get a full workload in an offensive scheme that saw Drake become an every-week RB1 play late last season. He'll resume that valuable role this season with Chase Edmonds serving as his handcuff.
