2019 Outlook
Depth Chart
The departure of Frank Gore to Buffalo presumably opens the door for Ballage to become the early down and short-yardage tailback for the Dolphins in 2019, with Kenyon Drake splitting carries and working as the primary receiving back for Ryan Fitzpatrick or Josh Rosen.

Of the two, Ballage is the better draft day bargain and more of a value compared to Drake, however, Drake's explosiveness and receiving prowess give him a higher ceiling.

At 6'1", 230 pounds, Ballage is a beast of a man and fast for his size. However, he does not excel at making quick cuts in space and is not a skilled receiver at this point in his pro career.

Injury Kenyan Drake returns to practice
Expected to be ready for Week 1
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Aug 26, 11:45 am

Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake, who had missed two weeks due to an injury that required a walking boot on a foot, returned to practice Monday. Drake appeared explosive and sharp in his cuts as he ran through drills in a portion of practice open to the media. Drake’s injury, sustained in a joint practice at Tampa Bay, was reported by The Post as non-structural. Drake is now on track, it would seem, for the season opener against Baltimore on September 8. (Palm Beach Post)

FFToday's Take: Drake's ADP has slipped to RB33 in over the last couple weeks being taken somewhere in the middle of round 7 on average. He'll likely be splitting time with Kalen Ballage but Drake should be the lead back in this committee. Miami's offense isn't one fantasy owners should be targeting but Drake is currently priced at a discount.

RB get some jogging in Thursday

By the way, Kenyan Drake, last seen in a walking boot due to foot injury, is out of the walking boot and jogging. (Miami Herald - Armando Salguero)

FFToday's Take: Initial reports had Drake out "a while" and perhaps in danger of missing the opener, but this report suggests he should be good to go barring a setback. Kalen Ballage has reportedly been a standout in camp, but it hasn't carried over to preseason action. While it's far from a trendy pick at the moment, Drake has the right combination of skill (especially in the passing game) and likely negative game script to be a top-20 PPR back again in 2019.

Injury Kenyan Drake in walking boot
Expected to be ready for Week 1
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Aug 14, 11:30 am

Miami Dolphins
Flores said Kenyan Drake, in a walking boot, has an injury that will be a while but said team hopeful ready for opener. (Armando Salguero on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Drake suffered the injury yesterday and although there's no official word on exactly what the issue is, it's not considered to be a "structural" problem. This will ding Drake's ADP and Kalen Ballage will take more reps with the first team in Drake's absence.

Kenyan Drake locked into another RBBC?
Kalen Ballage has "real chance" to be starter
By: Doug Orth | Thu Aug 1, 7:20 pm

Miami Dolphins
A lot will be made over who will be the Dolphins starter - and make no mistake, Kalen Ballage has a real chance to earn that role. He has run with the starters more than Kenyan Drake through four days of training camp, which depending on who you ask holds somewhere between no significance and a little significance. So how should we project the Dolphins backfield? Think New England Patriots-style running-back-by-committee and possibly a less-extreme version of how James White and Sony Michel shared that backfield. An early timeshare prediction could be 45/40/15 touch split for Drake, Ballage and the Dolphins secondary backs. (ESPN - Cameron Wolfe)

FFToday's Take: The irony of the Dolphins pumping up Ballage as a potential starter (or lead back) is that the position coach (Eric Studesville) suggests Ballage needs to remember to utilize his size and strength, which is a problem when a coach talks that way about a 230-pound back. A committee backfield was always the most likely outcome given the new regime's ties to New England, but Drake remains the heavy favorite to be the best fantasy option. He is very much in the RB2 discussion.
