Unfortunately Johnson has been the poster-child for the reason the running back position gets a bad rap. A difference maker when on the field, alas Johnson has missed 14 games since entering the NFL in 2018 and his lack of availability led the Lions picking D'Andre Swift in the draft. A more than capable three-down runner, Johnson enters a pivotal point in his career. He simply must stay healthy and effective to hold off Swift, and while I think his experience in the offense will help him hold down a share of the early season load, he could quickly drop in the pecking order with another injury or a continued drop in efficiency. Even when healthy last season Johnson failed to live up the expectations set after his rookie year. In theeight games he played in 2019, his yards-per-carry average dipped from 5.4 in 2018, to 3.6 and he was on pace for fewer targets and receptions despite being the team's clear cut RB1.
In a crowded fantasy backfield like Detroit, I'm going to always go with the more explosive/versatile player, and while Johnson certainly has upside because of his age, draft pedigree and goal line chances, he needs just too many things to fall his way to achieve fantasy difference maker status.

Golladay misses practice Wednesday, Swift limited Hip injury for Golladay By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 9, 11:06 am

| | Bevell said no practice for Kenny Golladay today. D'Andre Swift will practice today (Tim Twentyman on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Rinse and repeat for Golladay who last played in Week 8. He'll need to show some signs of life in Thursday's practice in order to have a chance of playing this week. Swift has battled a concussion and illness in recent weeks. He last played in Week 10. Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson would handle the load against the Packers if Swift can't go.

| D'Andre Swift misses practice Thursday Did practice Wednesday By: Mike Krueger | Thu Dec 3, 2:27 pm

| | Adrian Peterson says D'Andre Swift hasn't been himself since suffering a brain injury, hasn't had the same energy level. Said it's been hard to watch. Swift did try to practice yesterday, was out today. (Kyle Meinke on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: This doesn't sound good for Swift's chances of suiting up Sunday against the Bears. We could be looking at another committee of Peterson and Kerryon Johnson this week. There Bears are a negative matchup for running backs, allowing the 9th fewest fantasy points to the position.

| D'Andre Swift not expected to play Concussion By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 26, 9:23 am

| | Lions' RB D’Andre Swift, listed as questionable for today due to a concussion, is unlikely to play against the Texans, per sources. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: The Lions will once again be without their two best playmakers in Kenny Golladay and Swift. Expect Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson to share the workload against the Texans today. Kerryon is the better option in PPR leagues. The Texans have given up the 2nd most fantasy points to running backs.

| Swift, Golladay, Amendola out for the Lions Matthew Stafford is Questionable By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 20, 3:00 pm

| | Lions Friday practice report with game designations: D’Andre Swift, Kenny Golladay & Danny Amendola are OUT. Matthew Stafford is QUESTIONABLE (Tim Twentyman on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: The Lions will be rolling out their JV team against the Panthers this week. Expect Adrian Peterson and Kerryon Johnson to handle most of the running back duties while Marvin Jones Marvin Hall and Quintez Cephus will be the top three wideouts. Stafford is expected to start despite his thumb injury but will have depleted weaponry to aid in his fantasy efforts.

| D'Andre Swift misses practice Thursday Concussion By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 19, 3:47 pm

| | Lions' RB D'Andre Swift did not practice today due to a concussion, putting his availability for Sunday’s game in question. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: This sounds like bad news for Swift's chances of playing on Sunday. He doesn't have enough practices left in the week for him to clear the protocol. We could be looking at Adrian Peterson as the starter with Kerryon Johnson and Jonathan Williams filling backup roles.
