|A 6-131-1 NFL debut in Week 1 last season seemed to instantly squelch the idea rookie tight ends can't be fantasy assets. Those 131 yards were actually an NFL record for a rookie tight end in Week 1! But alas, that game would go down as easily the best game of his first season, as Hockensen only surpassed 5 receptions and 50 yards in only one more time each before his season came to a premature end with an ankle injury during Thanksgiving.
The development of Hockenson in his second season is an incredibly important thing for this entire Detroit offense. As a top-10 pick at the tight end position he has to be a well-rounded, and a consistent threat that the defense must account for. How defenses respond to him is going to dictate how open the rest of the offense can be. I'm going to bank on this happening. With the tight end position in fantasy an annual crapshoot for the most part, Hockensen has the talent and offense to flirt with top-15 status. With his quarterback returning to health and plenty of defensive attention focused elsewhere, Hockenson is an upside option for those that like to stream the tight end position.
| Kenny Golladay listed as Doubtful|

FFToday's Take: Golladay will likely join Mike Evans a high-profile receivers unable to make their season debut in Week 1. Marvin Hall may get some extra run as a result but fantasy owners will be focused on Marvin Jones and TE T.J. Hockenson.

Missed individual drills on Thursday

|Matthew Stafford's favorite target is dealing with a new hamstring injury three days before the Detroit Lions open the season against the Chicago Bears.

FFToday's Take: Golladay missed individual drills on Thursday. It sounds like he's going to end up as Questionable for the weekend but we should get a clearer picture after practice tomorrow. Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola and tight end T.J. Hockenson are next up on the priority list for Matthew Stafford.
| T.J. Hockenson still not 100 percent|
Ankle has remained an issue all offseason
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 17, 5:10 pm
|T.J. Hockenson says the ankle has been an issue for him this offseason, he notices it's still not quite 100 percent, but he's out there running around and trying to push forward. (MLive - Kyle Meinke)|
FFToday's Take: Hockenson is a popular breakout candidate, but this news is reason enough to bump him down a spot or two on positional rankings, especially given how deep tight end is in fantasy this season. Perhaps his ankle is not all that far away from 100 percent, but the safe play for now is to grab him as a high-upside TE2 instead of a low-end TE1.
| Kenny Golladay, T.J. Hockenson land on COVID-19 list|
5 Lions players placed on COVID-19 list
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jul 29, 5:40 pm
|Some COVID-19 additions for the #Lions: Kenny Golladay And T.J. Hockenson are on the reserve list. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Both players will need to get multiple positive COVID tests before being allowed back at camp. Both are relevant in fantasy football and depending on your view, this could be a help or hindrance to their fantasy value. Golladay is hovering around WR7 in PPR leagues while Hockenson is a late-round flier (TE14) with upside.
