A 6-131-1 NFL debut in Week 1 last season seemed to instantly squelch the idea rookie tight ends can't be fantasy assets. Those 131 yards were actually an NFL record for a rookie tight end in Week 1! But alas, that game would go down as easily the best game of his first season, as Hockensen only surpassed 5 receptions and 50 yards in only one more time each before his season came to a premature end with an ankle injury during Thanksgiving.
The development of Hockenson in his second season is an incredibly important thing for this entire Detroit offense. As a top-10 pick at the tight end position he has to be a well-rounded, and a consistent threat that the defense must account for. How defenses respond to him is going to dictate how open the rest of the offense can be. I'm going to bank on this happening. With the tight end position in fantasy an annual crapshoot for the most part, Hockensen has the talent and offense to flirt with top-15 status. With his quarterback returning to health and plenty of defensive attention focused elsewhere, Hockenson is an upside option for those that like to stream the tight end position.

Matthew Stafford trending towards playing Rib injury By: Mike Krueger | Sat Dec 19, 11:43 am

| | In a dramatic turn, #Lions QB Matthew Stafford (ribs) is now preparing to play tomorrow vs the #Titans, sources say. What seemed improbable early on should be reality tomorrow. It’s why no one ever wants to rule him out... (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Stafford got in some practice time yesterday so him gutting it out with injured ribs was always a possibility. His presence would help the Lions offense as a whole, making Marvin Jones, T.J. Hockenson and D'Andre Swift more palatable for fantasy owners.

| T.J. Hockenson expected to play Toe injury By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 15, 7:15 am

| | #Lions TE T.J. Hockenson, who popped up on the injury report this week because of his toe, is expected to play today vs. the Washington Football Team, I’m told. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: The Lions tight end was added to the injury report on Thursday but should be able to gut it out today against Washington. Already down Kenny Golladay, the Lions need all the playmakers they can get.

| T.J. Hockenson draws a DNP on Thursday TE added to injury report with toe issue By: Doug Orth | Thu Nov 12, 11:40 pm

| | It’s a toe injury for T.J. Hockenson. (ESPN - Michael Rothstein)
FFToday's Take: Kenny Golladay (hip) also missed another practice Thursday. If both players sit this weekend, it would leave Marvin Jones and Danny Amendola as Matthew Stafford's top target against Washington. Hockenson has been one of the few dependable options at tight end in fantasy this year, so Stafford won't be the only one fielding the pain if he sits. Jesse James would presumably step up in his place and would be a reasonable pivot if Hockenson's owners are forced to go in another direction.

| Golladay, Hockenson miss practice Thursday Hip injury for Golladay By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 12, 1:00 pm

| | From the pool: Kenny Golladay and T.J. Hockenson both sitting out practice today. Tracy Walker did return and did a little during the portion open to media. Same with Vaitai. Everson Griffen and Nick Williams appeared to do all individual work. (Kyle Meinke on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: It's looking like Golladay is trending towards missing another game with his hip injury. The reason for Hockenson's absence isn't known yet. The Lions tight end has seen 18 targets in the last two weeks and will be on the TE1 radar this week against Washington if he plays.
