2019 Outlook
Depth Chart
The first back selected in the 2019 NFL Draft was Alabama running back Josh Jacobs. Jacobs landed in one of the best possible situations in terms of likely playing time as he joins a backfield that lost Marshawn Lynch and only has competition from subpar veteran Doug Martin and pass catching specialist Jalen Richard.

The question about Jacobs is whether or not he's built to be an every-down back at the NFL level. Jacobs split touches all three years in college and never eclipsed even 650 rushing yards in a season for the Crimson Tide. His yards per carry were impressive and he was a reasonably useful pass catcher, but he only touched the ball a total of 299 times on offense in his three college years combined. Sure, Alabama had other talented backs for him to compete with so some of his lack of usage can be written off due to the team likely just wanting to keep their players healthy, but it's also a bit concerning that he wasn't able to completely run away with the lion's share of the team's running back touches.

If he's able to stay healthy, there's almost no way that Jacobs doesn't finish as at least an RB2. If he's as good as the Raiders seem to believe he is, and they feature him in a way that would justify them selecting him in the first round of the NFL Draft, then there's even a chance that he sneaks in as a fantasy RB1 this season.

Injury Josh Jacobs a gametime decision
Shoulder injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Dec 8, 7:15 am

Oakland Raiders
#Raiders RB Josh Jacobs (shoulder), who is trying to play through a broken shoulder plate, is a true game-time decision, source say. No guaranteed he can play today, thought he’s trying. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Raiders kick off later this afternoon making it tough on fantasy owners wanting to play Jacobs in their lineups. A mixture of DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard would carry the load at running back for the Raiders if Jacobs sits.

Injury Josh Jacobs questionable with shoulder injury
Didn't do much at practice Friday

Gruden said Josh Jacobs didn’t do much in practice today, his only workout of the week. We’ll see more Washington, Richard and even some more Ingold if Jacobs can’t go. (Scott Blair on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Jacobs has been playing with a shoulder injury for a few weeks now, but after two crushing defeats it may be time for the Raiders to take a more long-term view for their rookie running back. If Jacobs hits the Inactive list on Sunday, DeAndre Washington and Jalen Richard would handle the running back duties against the Titans.

Injury Josh Jacobs sidelined again Thursday
Consecutive DNPs to begin the week

No sign of RB Josh Jacobs (shoulder) or RT Trent Brown (pectoral) at start of Raiders practice today. (ESPN - Paul Gutierrez)

FFToday's Take: Jacobs has been limited in practice for weeks, but it's fair to wonder if Oakland is going to scale back his workload a bit or give him a week or two off. He told reporters Wednesday he's been playing through a fractured shoulder since Week 7. With the Raiders' season suddenly headed in the wrong direction, picking up DeAndre Washington and/or Jalen Richard could be a savvy move.

Injury Josh Jacobs expected to play
Missed practice all week with shoulder injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 27, 7:00 am

Oakland Raiders
#Raiders RB Josh Jacobs (shoulder) is expected to play today, while Jon Gruden said WR Tyrell Williams (foot) should be back, as well. OT Trent Brown (calf) is also expected to play, while #Texans CB Bradley Roby (hamstring) is out for Houston. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Jacobs missed practice most of the week with a shoulder injury but is expected to give it a go against the Texans. He reportedly took a shot to stay in the game last week. He'll be on the RB2 radar in Week 8.

San Diego Chargers
Don’t see Josh Jacobs (shoulder) at practice. Tyrell Williams, Trent Brown, Rodney Hudson and Gabe Jackson are practicing. #Raiders (Vic Tafur on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: This is the second missed practice for Jacobs this week as he deals with a shoulder injury suffered in Week 8. HC Jon Gruden said Jacobs has a legitimate injury and took a shot last week to stay in the game. DeAndre Washington should operate as the lead back against the Texans if Jacobs isn't able to play on Sunday.

Injury Josh Jacobs, Tyrell Williams hurting
RB dealing with groin issue, WR has hip pointer

Oakland Raiders
Gruden said that Josh Jacobs is dealing with a groin issue. Tyrell Williams with a hip pointer. (NBC Sports Bay Area)

FFToday's Take: Both players performed well in Week 2 for their fantasy owners, but life is about to get more difficult for both on the road against the Vikings in Week 3, especially if they aren't 100 percent. Williams, in particular, could struggle in the shadow coverage of Xavier Rhodes. Jacobs could cede a few touches to Jalen Richard and/or DeAndre Washington if he isn't ready to handle a full load. Both Jacobs and Williams should be considered back-end fantasy starters this week.
