Depth Chart
One of the league's most elusive backs in his rookie season, Josh Jacobs answered pretty much every question that draft scouts and fantasy owners had about him. Many believed that he lacked the ability to sustain a full workload because he split touches at Alabama, but Jacobs stepped right in to a massive, 242-carry as a rookie in just 13 games. He did miss three games due to a shoulder fracture, but the fact that he only missed three games with that type of injury is a testament to not only his mental fortitude, but his physical toughness to continue to perform at a high level even in the face of a debilitating injury. That should give fantasy owners some real confidence heading into his second season.

The Raiders did get rid of veteran backup DeAndre Washington this offseason but passing game specialist Jalen Richard remains on the roster and they also added the position-fluid weapon Lynn Bowden Jr. It's rarely good for a player when his team invests a top three round pick at a similar position, but Bowden and Richard are both passing game weapons who are not built to take a heavy workload, so Jacobs is firmly in the driver's seat to lead this backfield in touches by a wide margin. In fact, he's a real contender to lead all NFL running backs in carries this season. The selection of Bowden does seem to indicate that the Raiders' coaching staff doesn't view Jacobs as an excellent passing game weapon, however, so that does cap his upside a bit, especially in PPR formats.

Nevertheless, Jacobs is firmly entrenched as the Raiders' top back and he'll be running behind one of the best run blocking units in the league. That gives him a tremendous floor as he'll likely see a 280-plus-carry season if he remains healthy. The Raiders offense should also be more explosive this season given the additions they've made so there's reason to believe that Jacobs has top five fantasy running back upside.

Josh Jacobs booked for DUI
Released from hospital after accident
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jan 4, 8:40 pm

Las Vegas Raiders
Raiders RB Josh Jacobs was arrested for DUI after a single-vehicle collision near the McCarran Airport Connector and East Sunset Road in Las Vegas this morning, per Las Vegas Metro Police. LVMPD Traffic responded to a single-car crash at approximately 4:42 a.m. Jacobs was transported to a local hospital due to minor injuries resulting from the collision. After treatment, he was transported to the Clark County Detention Center where he was booked for DUI. (ESPN - Paul Gutierrez)

FFToday's Take: Jacobs' lawyers are fighting the charge, suggesting no complaint has been filed and that no blood test results suggesting any level of impairment exist. It's fortunate that no one appears to have been seriously hurt, and it obviously remains to be seen if Jacobs is eventually found guilty. If he is, he will likely be looking at something approaching a four-game suspension to start the 2021 season.

Injury Josh Jacobs expected to play against Colts
Raiders RB missed practice Wednesday
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 9, 7:12 pm

Las Vegas Raiders
While coach Jon Gruden is being tight-lipped about whether Trent Brown, running back Josh Jacobs, safety Johnathan Abram and cornerback Damon Arnette will play Sunday against the Colts, The Athletic has learned that the Raiders expect the first three to play. And Arnette (concussion/neck) hasn’t been ruled out yet. That is all based on the players having no setbacks at practice this week. (The Athletic)

FFToday's Take: Jacobs missed practice on Wednesday but this is good news for fantasy owners of Jacobs as we enter the first week of playoffs for many leagues. Devontae Booker starter for Las Vegas last week but only managed 50 rushing yards against the Jets without finding the endzone.

Injury Josh Jacobs could miss at least one more game
Sidelined by ankle injury in Week 13
By: Doug Orth | Mon Dec 7, 6:20 pm

Las Vegas Raiders
Gruden not confident that Josh Jacobs will be back against Colts. (The Athletic - Vic Tafur)

FFToday's Take: Jacobs did not practice at all last week. It's a bad sign Gruden appears so certain that his top back will miss another game. Devontae Booker was the clear lead back in his absence against the Jets in Week 13, but he was only able to muster 51 total yards on 17 touches. For now, Booker should be expected to carry the load again. If so, he should be a serviceable flex option with RB2 upside if he can find the end zone.

Injury Josh Jacobs out for Week 13
Won't make the trip to New York
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 4, 3:21 pm

Las Vegas Raiders
Raiders coach Jon Gruden: RB Josh Jacobs won’t play Sunday vs #NYJ, will not make the trip. (Kim Jones on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Jacobs (knee) out against the Jets, this puts Devontae Booker squarely in play as an easy RB2 with RB1 upside if he can find his way into the endzone. the Jets have given up the 9th most fantasy points to RBs this season.

Injury Josh Jacobs dealing with sprained ankle
Tests this morning
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Nov 30, 10:27 am

Las Vegas Raiders
#Raiders RB Josh Jacobs, whose day was cut short after 10 touches and a fumble, suffered an ankle sprain, source said. He’s having tests this morning, but sounds like it looked worse than it is. Jacobs hasn’t missed a game this season. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: We'll have to monitor practice reports for Jacobs to determine his status for Week 13. The Raiders got trucked yesterday in Atlanta (43-6) that included Jacobs posting a 7-27-0, 3-17 line. Devontae Booker would be a prime option should he get the start this week against the Jets.

Injury Josh Jacobs a no-go Thursday
Knee/illness
By: Doug Orth | Thu Nov 5, 7:50 pm

Las Vegas Raiders
Josh Jacobs didn't practice today for the #Raiders due to a knee injury/illness. (The Athletic - Tashan Reed)

FFToday's Take: Jacobs has been on the injury report for several weeks with either a hip or knee injury, but there are at least a couple of reasons for concern this week: he practiced in full on Wednesday and the Raiders promoted Theo Riddick, giving them four running backs on the active roster. (Most teams only dress three on game day.) Fantasy owners need to keep an eye on the situation and add Devontae Booker as a potential pivot if this turns out to be something of note.
