2020 Outlook
Depth Chart
Gardner Minshew was drafted in the 6th round of the NFL Draft in 2019, with newly-signed Nick Foles solidly atop the depth chart. He was most likely to sit behind Foles for a few years and learn the game on his way to being a long-term back up. How quickly fortunes change! Foles was injured in the first game of the season, and Minshew was inserted into the lineup and played well against the Chiefs. He moved the ball down the field effectively, finding open receivers surprisingly well.

By mid-season, Foles was healthy and regained the starting job. But after only two games and part of a third, they decided to turn back to Minshew, and stuck with him the rest of the season. The likelihood of that scenario playing out before the season started was incomprehensibly small. But here we are.

While Minshew only completed 60% of his passes, he was very impressive in his ability to take care of the ball, particularly for a young player. He only threw 6 interceptions to 21 touchdowns, a very rare ratio for a rookie. With the Jaguars passing on selecting a QB in the 2020 Draft, it certainly appears that they want to give Minshew a chance to become their franchise QB. He displayed above-average intelligence, solid accuracy, and good leadership. Those seem to be his best qualities, and he is not going to be mistaken for a quarterback with a huge arm.

He is in position to succeed, and could be a nice option for those going with a late-round quarterback strategy. He is surrounded by a solid skill-position cast and at least an average offensive line. It remains to be seen if he can take the next step and become more than a replacement-level player, but with your last pick it might be a worthwhile gamble.

Jake Luton to start at quarterback for Jags in Week 9
Thumb injury for Minshew
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Nov 2, 1:17 pm

Jacksonville Jaguars
Jaguars coach Doug Marrone says team will start rookie QB Jake Luton this week in place of Gardner Minshew (thumb). Also said he would not discipline Minshew for hiding the injury for several weeks. (Michael DiRocco on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Head coach Doug Marrone also said that there's no guarantee that Minshew would return as the starter once healthy. The Jags face Houston in Week 9 then have Green Bay, Pittsburgh and Cleveland on the upcoming schedule. The pass catching options on this team are quickly becoming fantasy irrelevant.

Injury Gardner Minshew dealing with thumb injury
Team unaware until after Week 7's loss to the Chargers
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Oct 29, 11:30 am

Jacksonville Jaguars
X-rays taken this week revealed that Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew II has multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb, league sources told ESPN. Minshew has had discomfort in his thumb since Jacksonville's Oct. 11 game at Houston, a source told ESPN. He did not tell the team about the pain until after the last game, a 39-29 loss to the Chargers, which led to a postgame X-ray in Los Angeles. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: The Jags are on bye this week, but we could see Mike Glennon in Week 9 against the Texans. Minshew is currently sitting as the QB14 in fantasy points per game among qualified quarterbacks.

Injury D.J. Chark misses practice Thursday
Ankle injury

WR D.J. Chark (ankle) missed his second consecutive day of practice on Thursday. (Michael DiRocco on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Chark also missed practice on Wednesday. He seems to be on the wrong side of questionable this week which would leave Laviska Shenault (hamstring), Keelan Cole and Chris Conley the top three wideouts for Gardner Minshew against the Lions in Week 6.
