If Montgomery and Gibbs were one player they would have put up one of the best fantasy seasons of all time as they combined for over 2,400 total yards and 24 touchdowns. While Gibbs was the chef's knife slicing and dicing from all angles, Montgomery was the meat tenderizer, churning out the tough yards, plowing into the endzone, and setting up the play-action. Montgomery was a free agent hit, as he teamed with Gibbs to give Detroit a reliable, productive veteran who could salt games away in the 4th quarter, or help grind up opposing defenses. His 13 touchdowns were easily a career high, and thanks to an elite offensive line, his 4.6 yards-per-carry was also a career best. With the offensive coaching staff intact, and no physical red flags, look for more of the same for Montgomery. With Gibbs getting most of the hype, Montgomery figures to be a solid, overlooked RB2 in all formats.

 David Montgomery should be ready for Divisional Round
RB making solid progress in recovery from MCL injury

|  | Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters on Tuesday that he expects David Montgomery to be ready to play when top-seeded Detroit hosts its Divisional Round playoff opener in two weeks.
"I do," Campbell said quite simply and confidently when asked if he thought Montgomery would be available. (NFL.com)
FFToday's Take: Montgomery brings a level of power running not many in the league provide, but the Lions' offense should be in good shape regardless of whether he can play next week. The bigger question is if Montgomery will be fully recovered just over a month after suffering the injury. If not, he could play more of a complementary role to Jahmyr Gibbs, who once again proved he is more than capable of being a featured back during Montgomery's absence.

FFToday's Take: The Lions suffered a number of season-ending injuries in their Week 15 loss versus the Bills. His absence opens the door for Jahmyr Gibbs to be the featured back in Detroit, making him an easy top-five running back for the remainder of the fantasy playoffs. Deep leaguers are encouraged to add Craig Reynolds and/or Sione Vaki this week, although Gibbs should be locked in for 20-plus touches now.
