|Zeke to see 20-25 snaps?|
Conflicting reports on Zeke's usage
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Sep 8, 11:00 am
|#Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott should get 20-25 snaps, which means we’ll also begin to see if the Tony Pollard hype is real. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: This would be a lighter than normal workload for Zeke and conflicts with other reports earlier in the week that Zeke wouldn't be scaled back that much. If Zeke's conditioning is up to par, it's going to be difficult for the Cowboys to take him off the field in any kind of significant manner. He still has RB1 upside but it's likely more low-end RB1 given these reports.
|Deal done: Ezekiel Elliott gets contract extension|
$50 million guaranteed
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Sep 4, 7:00 am
|The Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott have come to terms on a six-year, $90 million contract extension, a source told ESPN on Wednesday. The deal has $50 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder, surpassing Todd Gurley's $45 million as the most for an NFL running back. (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Nothing like waiting until the last minute. Zeke is back being a top four pick in late drafts. A secondary report from Jane Slater suggests "the plan right now is about 20-25 reps on Sunday, rookie Tony Pollard behind him and FB Jamize Olawale as your best blitz pickup guy on 3rd downs. Things can always change but this is the plan heading into today." That seems like a light workload for Zeke and it won't be surprising if used more against the Giants in Week 1.
|Ezekiel Elliott contract talks "progressing"|
Team trying to finalize deal before Week 1
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Sep 3, 9:26 am
|Charles Robinson on Twitter regarding Ezekiel Elliott contract talks: "Latest on #Cowboys & Zeke. A more positive day. Issues continue on structure. Big one: The impact of the 30-percent rule has been a grind. Basically pushes a lot of money up front or forces creative measures to meet Gurley APY. Dallas doesn’t want a frontloaded deal. Progressing." (Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: It's been a wild weekend, going from optimism to frustration and now back to some progress. Even if Elliott signs before Thursday and gets with the team, you'll have to consider him questionable for Week 1, so plan (for the moment) on a big role from rookie Tony Pollard against the Giants.
|Jerry Jones expects Zeke to miss games|
"I'm operating as though he's going to miss regular-season games&
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Aug 30, 7:00 am
|Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones says he believes Ezekiel Elliott could miss more than just the Sept. 8 regular-season opener in a contract dispute.
"I'm operating as though right now he's going to miss regular-season games," Jones said of the running back after the Cowboys concluded the preseason Thursday with a 17-15 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "My entire expectation for what we're putting together as a team right now would anticipate with him holding out and not having any training camp that he's going to miss games. I just accept that." (ESPN)|
FFToday's Take: Zeke has still be going in the first round in fantasy drafts but you'll likely see him slip in drafts conducted this weekend as no deal appears imminent. It seems likely that Elliott will miss Week 1 and possible more. Tony Pollard's value will be climbing and would be a solid RB2 value in any game Zeke misses.
