2020 Outlook
Depth Chart
2019 rookie breakout wide receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a Jones Fracture (broken foot) on June 16th and was originally expected to miss 12 to 16 weeks, but Samuel claims he "might only miss 10 weeks." Players almost always over-exaggerate their own return dates, but it's good to hear that Samuel is feeling confident on his timetable.

The reality is that even if Samuel were completely healthy, there's not a great chance that he suddenly breaks into being an upper-echelon fantasy wide receiver. It's not that he lacks the skill to be there, but the 49ers offense just does not pass the ball enough to give both Samuel and Kittle the type of volume that they'd need to be top producers at their positions. Kittle is a proven elite-level performer at tight end so his target volume isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Therefore it's Samuel who is likely to remain at the mid-level WR2 range for realistic upside.

Even if Samuel does return and is ready for Week 1, he could be dealing with an injury that limits his explosiveness, which is one of his most important assets as a player. That could significantly hamper his fantasy success this season, especially early in the year. Obviously this has driven Samuel's ADP down, but he's still going around the range of players who are much safer options.

Injury Deebo Samuel could miss Weeks 8 and 9
Hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 26, 11:55 pm

San Francisco
The 49ers might also have to play without receiver Deebo Samuel, who has been an integral part of the offense over the past two weeks while the team has gotten back to its run-first identity. Samuel had eight touches for 72 yards, including a handful of running plays. But on his final carry, an outside run to the left sideline in the fourth quarter, he grabbed his left leg and was quickly ruled out with a hamstring injury. Shanahan indicated the team fears Samuel will miss some time after he already missed four games to start the year with a broken foot sustained over the summer. (The Modesto Bee)

FFToday's Take: It's been a season to forget for Samuel, who missed the first three games of the season with a foot injury he suffered while working out over the summer. The 49ers' bye doesn't come until Week 11, meaning the team will probably bring him back as soon as they can (as opposed to playing it conservatively and giving him an extra week to recover). Samuel's absence should allow rookie Brandon Aiyuk to re-enter the WR3 conversation in fantasy.

Injury Raheem Mostert, Deebo Samuel expected to play
Knee injury for Mostert
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 11, 7:00 am

San Francisco
49ers’ RB Raheem Mostert (knee) and WR Deebo Samuel (illness), both listed as questionable for today’s game against the Dolphins, both “should be good (to play)”, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Mostert has missed the last two weeks with a knee injury. His return will cap the ceiling of Jerick McKinnon who saw 21 touches last week against the Eagles. We don't expect Mostert to see a full workload so McKinnon is probably the better fantasy play in Week 5.

Injury Jimmy Garoppolo will start in Week 5
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 9, 4:25 pm

San Francisco
#49ers injury report vs. #Dolphins OUT CB D.Johnson-groin CB Moseley-concussion DE Ansah-biceps CB K.Williams-knee Questionable RB Raheem Mostert-knee WR Deebo Samuel-illness CB Witherspoon-hamstring QB Jimmy Garoppolo will start. (Matt Maiocco on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Garoppolo (ankle) was limited in practice this week. He'll slide into his normal QB2 value in a decent matchup against the Dolphins. C.J. Beathard will be the No.2 quarterback.

Injury 49ers signing WR Mohamed Sanu
Veteran wideout needed to shore up WR ranks in San Fran
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Wed Sep 16, 9:39 am

San Francisco
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) on Twitter: "49ers are signing former Patriots’ WR Mohamed Sanu, per his agent @MikeMcCartney7" (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Deebo Samuel (foot) on injured reserve , the 49ers need capable WRs, and Sanu has experience with coach Kyle Shanahan. He'll slide into a significant role immediately and can be added in deep fantasy leagues. I wouldn't roll him out right away, but he's worth an add.

Injury Deebo Samuel out, Brandon Aiyuk questionable
49ers thin at wide receiver
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 11, 4:45 pm

San Francisco
Deebo Samuel is out for Sunday’s game with a foot injury, while wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is questionable with a hamstring injury. (SI.com)

FFToday's Take: Aiyuik is going to be a gametime decision. The 49ers are woefully thin at wide receiver. The rookie receiver is difficult to trust in Week 1 even if he does play. Kendrick Bourne is worthy a look against the Cardinals as a Flex play.

Injury Brandon Aiyuk leaves with apparent hamstring injury
Yet another blow to 49ers receiving corps
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Aug 23, 3:40 pm

San Francisco
#49ers rookie WR Brandon Aiyuk left practice early with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. He pulled up on a deep route and grabbed back of his left leg. He’s been having a very impressive camp. (Matt Maiocco on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Deebo Samuel on the mend from a foot injury and Jalen Hurd (ACL), Richie James (wrist), Travis Benjamin (opt-out) all out of action the 49ers are digging deep into their depth chart. Dante Pettis is working his way into an increased role out of necessity.

49ers add Tavon Austin, J.J.Nelson to WR group
Deebo Samuel likely to miss the start of the season
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Aug 14, 12:32 pm

San Francisco
49ers plan to sign veteran WRs J.J. Nelson and Tavon Austin, pending physicals, per league source. Added depth in an area in which Deebo Samuel is likely to miss the start of the season. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The 49ers are adding some depth to the wide receiver room during camp while Deebo Samuel (foot) remains sidelined. If one of these two sticks on the roster, they may find themselves on punt return duties. The fantasy value here is slim.
