The Giants lost the focal point of their offense this offseason when running back Saquon Barkley signed with their division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. While the team addressed the position by bringing in another back who has had some success in the league, there's no question that the talent discrepancy between Barkley and new Giants starting running back Devin Singletary is significant.
Even Barkley struggled to get things going behind the Giants' terrible offensive line in 2023, breaking the 100-yard rushing mark in just one contest and getting into the end zone just six times. Meanwhile, Singletary spent the year as the lead back in what became a high-powered Houston Texans offense, but he also struggled, finishing with fewer than 900 rushing yards despite playing in every game. To make matters worse, while Barkley has proven to be a valuable asset in the passing game, Singletary has not shown the same ability, either in Houston or during his time in Buffalo. In five NFL seasons, Singletary has never exceeded 40 receptions and has a career-high of just seven rushing touchdowns.
The "somebody has to run the ball" narrative will keep Singletary on draft boards, and he may be seen as a fallback option for zero-RB builds, but he's probably not a back to be very excited about. He hasn't proven to be a particularly valuable fantasy contributor in excellent offenses, and the Giants are expected to be below average.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. expected to clear concussion protocol Should play in Week 9 By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 1, 11:38 am
| | Tyrone Tracy Jr. is progressing again today. Barring an unexpected setback, the #Giants’ top RB is expected to be cleared from the concussion protocol and start Sunday. (Pat Leonard on X)
FFToday's Take: We've seen Tracy take over the Giants backfield at times including last week when he finished with a 20-145-1, 2-5-0 line against the Steelers. Assuming he gets cleared, he should be lead back in Week 9 against the Commanders and be in the high-end RB2 mix with Devin Singletary working in a backup role.
| Tyrone Tracy in concussion protocol Week 9 status in doubt By: Doug Orth | Tue Oct 29, 9:40 pm
| | Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. told me as he was exiting the locker room that he is in the concussion protocol, so he was unavailable to answer questions due to the protocol's policy.
Career night with 145 yards and a TD in losing effort. (NorthJersey.com - Art Stapleton)
FFToday's Take: Tracy was injured late in Monday night's loss to the Steelers. The fact he suffered his brain injury on a Monday night gives him one less day to clear the five-step protocol before Sunday's tilt against the Commanders. Players can progress through the protocol in less than five days (as Marvin Harrison Jr. did recently), but it does not happen very often. Devin Singletary would be in line to make another start if Tracy is ruled out.
| Sounds like RBBC for the Giants in Week 7 Devin Singletary back in the mix By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 18, 12:36 pm
| | On the #Giants RB situation: Devin Singletary will return on Sunday vs. #Eagles. But Tyrone Tracy Jr. will still see significant playing time.
“He’s earned it,” coach Brian Daboll said. “He’s done a good job. So he’ll get plenty of playing time.”
Daboll says Tracy, Singletary and Eric Gray will all play. The Giants intend to keep an eye on Singletary to see how he’s doing off groin injury. So they will likely ease him back into game action. (Jordan Raanan on X)
FFToday's Take: Singletary has missed the last two games with a groin injury but will return against the Eagles in Week 7. This RBBC isn't great for fantasy owners and puts a lid on the ceiling of both running backs. Tracy is the preferred play between the two given his health, but he is more of a Flex option than RB2.
| Devin Singletary downgraded to Out for Week 6 Tyrone Tracy Jr. expected to start By: Mike Krueger | Sat Oct 12, 5:09 pm
| | Game status update: RB Devin Singletary, P Jamie Gillan, and WR Bryce Ford-Wheaton have been downgraded to out. (New York Giants on X)
FFToday's Take: Singletary (groin) missed last week's game and was limited in practice all week before being downgraded to Out. Expect Tyrone Tracy Jr. to get the start with Eric Gray mixed in. Tracy posted a 18-129-0 line last week after Gray fumbled early in the game. The Bengals represent a neutral matchup to opposing RBs, but Tracy is a worthy RB2 this week.
| Devin Singletary listed as Questionable for Week 6 limited in practice all week By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 11, 12:26 pm
| | Devin Singletary still dealing with a groin problem. Coach Brian Daboll said “we’ll see” about his starting running back.
Could be another Tyrone Tracy Jr. game. (Jordan Raanan on X)
FFToday's Take: Singletary was limited in practice all week with a groin injury and is listed as Questionable. If he sits, we'll likely see Tracy operate in a lead-back role Eric Gray as he did last week, but will be available as well. The Giants and Bengals play Sunday night.
