2020 Outlook
Depth Chart
An upper-percentile speed with high-level burst scores, rookie Brandon Aiyuk has been on the fantasy radar as he could potentially fill the void left by Samuel - if Deebo does miss games. A four-year junior college transfer who didn't break out until N'Keal Harry left for the NFL, Aiyuk profiles more as a second option in an NFL offense than a first one, but he still has the highest upside of any wide receiver in this offense other than Samuel.

The 49ers reportedly had Aiyuk as their top-ranked wide receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft class and they selected him with their first round draft pick, so there's plenty of reason to believe that the team will be excited to deploy him as early as this season. However, given the current state of affairs with the health concerns that are threatening training camps throughout the league, there's a fair chance that Aiyuk takes a while to break out - or never breaks out at all - in his rookie season. Still, his price is currently quite low in fantasy drafts so it's worth giving him a chance on your roster with one of your final draft picks.

Injury Deebo Samuel could miss Weeks 8 and 9
Hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 26, 11:55 pm

San Francisco
The 49ers might also have to play without receiver Deebo Samuel, who has been an integral part of the offense over the past two weeks while the team has gotten back to its run-first identity. Samuel had eight touches for 72 yards, including a handful of running plays. But on his final carry, an outside run to the left sideline in the fourth quarter, he grabbed his left leg and was quickly ruled out with a hamstring injury. Shanahan indicated the team fears Samuel will miss some time after he already missed four games to start the year with a broken foot sustained over the summer. (The Modesto Bee)

FFToday's Take: It's been a season to forget for Samuel, who missed the first three games of the season with a foot injury he suffered while working out over the summer. The 49ers' bye doesn't come until Week 11, meaning the team will probably bring him back as soon as they can (as opposed to playing it conservatively and giving him an extra week to recover). Samuel's absence should allow rookie Brandon Aiyuk to re-enter the WR3 conversation in fantasy.

Injury George Kittle ruled out with knee sprain

By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 18, 4:45 pm

San Francisco
George Kittle was ruled out for their Week 2 game against the New York Jets with a knee sprain, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. Kittle will remain in the Bay Area for a couple of extra days of recovery before joining the team for the week in West Virginia as they prepare for their Week 3 game against the New York Giants. (NBC Sports)

FFToday's Take: With Kittle out, Jordan Reed will step into a starting role and is a decent low-end TE1 option given the lack of pass catching weapons for Jimmy Garoppolo. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will see his first action of the season after sitting out Week 1 with a hamstring injury.

Injury Deebo Samuel out, Brandon Aiyuk questionable
49ers thin at wide receiver
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 11, 4:45 pm

San Francisco
Deebo Samuel is out for Sunday’s game with a foot injury, while wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is questionable with a hamstring injury. (

FFToday's Take: Aiyuik is going to be a gametime decision. The 49ers are woefully thin at wide receiver. The rookie receiver is difficult to trust in Week 1 even if he does play. Kendrick Bourne is worthy a look against the Cardinals as a Flex play.

Injury Brandon Aiyuk leaves with apparent hamstring injury
Yet another blow to 49ers receiving corps
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Aug 23, 3:40 pm

San Francisco
#49ers rookie WR Brandon Aiyuk left practice early with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. He pulled up on a deep route and grabbed back of his left leg. He’s been having a very impressive camp. (Matt Maiocco on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: With Deebo Samuel on the mend from a foot injury and Jalen Hurd (ACL), Richie James (wrist), Travis Benjamin (opt-out) all out of action the 49ers are digging deep into their depth chart. Dante Pettis is working his way into an increased role out of necessity.

Injury Torn ACL feared for Jalen Hurd
Missed entire rookie season with back injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 17, 4:30 pm

San Francisco
49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said, though the results of the MRI are not back yet, he’d be surprised if it’s not an ACL tear for WR Jalen Hurd. Shanahan said he expects Hurd back in 2021. (NBC Sports Bay Area)

FFToday's Take: The player who once started ahead of Alvin Kamara at running back at Tennessee hasn't been able to catch a break in the NFL yet, as a preseason back injury cost him all of his 2019 season. Hurd was making an impression early in camp and was ticketed for the "big slot" role in the offense, but it appears that will have to wait. With Deebo Samuel also injured and uncertain for Week 1, the drumbeat for rookie Brandon Aiyuk and Jerick McKinnon should continue to pick up.
